Welcome to Freebie Friday! As I was reading Jennifer’s post yesterday, it had me reflecting on all the great teachers I’ve had over the years. My mom likes to tell the story of how patient my kindergarten teacher was with me. Apparently I had a fear of my lunch box. Yes, I said lunch box. I guess my tiny fingers hadn’t quite figured out the mechanics of how this locked box magically opened for others, but not for me. (I guess we didn’t cover lunch boxes in preschool!) The first few days of kindergarten were a little traumatic, but after some gentle instruction from sweet Ms. Munie, I mastered the art of opening my lunch box while the rest of the class cheered me on.
Then came Ms. Dowell in third grade. She used to keep a candy dish on her desk filled to the rim with brightly colored Skittles. Every time we would “do well” in class (get it…her name was Ms. Do-well), we would get to pick out one Skittles candy from her tall dish. (I’m convinced she refilled that thing every day because it never seemed to disappear!) I would always pick red (strawberry) and happily munched on it all the way back to my desk. To this day, whenever I open a bag of Skittles, I always reach for the red ones first and I think to myself, “You deserve this. You did something well today.”
With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, I’m gearing up for my cousin’s high school graduation next week. I’d love to make her a card that not only recognizes her achievement, but also leaves her feeling hopeful about her future. As I was flipping through our May/June issue, I came to a stop on p. 74. Maren Benedict’s Over the Rainbow Card and Kim Kesti’s Colorful Imagination Card immediately jumped out at me. These two cards so perfectly complement each other. Both have black bases, both are dripping in every of color of the rainbow and both remind me of Ms. Dowell’s shiny jar of Skittles!

These bright cards are perfect for a new grad or an inspirational teacher.
So to pay tribute to my favorite teacher and my favorite color of Skittles, I’m giving away this red-as-a-schoolhouse prize package to two lucky winners! Leave a comment telling me the name of your favorite teacher and why she/he was so inspirational. All comments must be received by midnight on Sunday, May 24. The winners will be announced on Monday’s blog.

Thanks to Stampin' Up!, American Crafts, Making Memories and Heidi Grace for this red hot prize package!
Here’s to teachers! May you inspire your students to always ”do well!”

My favorite teacher – 2nd grade – Mrs Bryant. She instilled my love of reading. I think it’s great that all these teachers meant so much to all these people.
Favorite skittle color – definitely red.
Thanks for the smile today! -
I’m gonna have to say my favorite teacher was my band teacher, Mr Jenkins due to how much he helped me grow into the well rounded person I am today… I listen to almost every type of music, I would not have been able to go on some of the trips he took the band on due to finiacal issues latter in high school but he made sure I was able to go.

Mrs. Volk was a difficult teacher, but one who taught me so much about becoming the best you can be. She was murdered not too long after I graduated and it was really awful to hear that.
-
Mrs Fessler, my second grade teacher. She was always kind and understanding. Never scolded or made fun of us!
Also Mrs. Monahan, my third grade teacher…she was a bit tougher and rough around the edges but I had a major, traumatic event happen that year and she and the class really helped me through it.

Sad to say can’t think on any off hand. It has been quite a few years but I went 12 years to a Catholic school and the nuns were all MEAN.
-
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Pflugg in 5th grade. She treated us like people and not kids. It was also nice that my mom worked with her husband, so it made me a little extra special!
I also don’t remember their names, but all my Math teachers. Thanks to them they made math fun and to this day I love math. When my kids are grown I will go to school for a teaching certificate so I can be an Algebra teacher.
-
My favorite teacher was Mrs McArthur, my english teacher in 11th grade because she believed in me and wrote me a recommendation to Wesleyan University which I attended and loved.
-
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Borken in 2nd grade, I always remembered her… not too sure why, she mustve left an important mark on me somehow b/c she is always the first teacher to pop into my mind.
-
I’ll never forget my highschool Chemistry teacher Mr. Caldwell. He made it so easy and fun!
-
My favorite teacher was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Stearn. She was such a wonderful, kind, caring teacher. I remember I only got one spelling word wrong all year (it was “again”) and for having an almost perfect mark in spelling, she gave me a piggy bank…25 years later, I still have it. She still lives in my home town and I occasionally see her when I go home for a visit.

What a great idea! My favorite teacher was my band teacher in high school and equally as good is my son’s high school band teacher. They both made it so clear that they love their students and love teaching music. And of course, my son’s love for music as a result, will last a lifetime.

Having just gone back to school for a new career, I would have to say my two instructors from the program – Heather and Shirley. they were very encouraging and supportive during our classes. It wasnt easy juggling kids and school, but they made classes fun and enjoyable.

Ahh, one of my favorite colors, too — red!
One of my most memorable teachers was Mr. Hogg in elementary school! His name alone was memorable, but he was also my first male teacher and I don’t know why, but I seemed to listen better to a man and learned a lot from him!
Thanks for the opportunity to win this awesome prize package!

My favorite was my 5th grade teacher, Mr. Clinton, who – because I ran for school president and won – wrote in my autograph book that year, “Good luck to the first woman president.” Of course he was overly optimistic, but I loved it that back in the mid-60s before anyone was even considering women presidents, he was so encouraging!

Love reading all of your stories. Teachers are such special people, aren’t they. I’ve had many great ones that have stayed with me, but the most special one was Mrs. Magnum in grade 2. We’d just immigrated to Canada and I couldn’t speak the language, and she was just the kindest, most gentle lady I’ve ever known. I still remember her smile.
-
My favorite teacher was Mr. McFarland for fifth grade. He made learning so much fun, and made all of the kids in his class, feel as if they were the most important kid in his class. I have been fortunate to have several wonderful teachers throughout my educational career, but he was by far the most inspirational, and meaningful to me of them all.
-
My favorite teacher was Mr. Yu in Okinawa, Japan. He escaped religious persecution in China to teach in Japan. Quite a life story! He explained Algebra 2 so well that I finally got it and stopped struggling. He really cared for his students and wanted them to know and understand the higher levels of math and Physics and that truly made a difference. Thanks for the chance!!!

I was fortunate enough to have several wonderful teachers. Those that stand out in my memory are Mrs. Hilyard and Mr. Ronne. They were very upstanding people and I still look up to them today.
-
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Cooper, my 6th grade teacher. She signed our class up to participate in a monthly Science Bowl competition which is probably why I became a science teacher. Since I lived out in the boonies I have always appreciated the fact that she opened our grade school library a few hours each week during the summer too so we could check out big piles of books. By the time I was in 8th grade I had read a good portion of that library! Her husband was our school district superintendent and he became a buddy of mine too. He was an usher in my wedding and she minded the guest book.
-
My favourite teacher was my history teacher (nicknamed “Penguin”) because she really made the topic interesting.
-
My favorite teacher was my mother. she was my teacher through most of my early education days, and she always found a way to relate what I was learning in school to the rest of everyday life. That made me appreciate my education so much from the very early days. Thanks for the chance at such a fabulous RAK!
-
My grade 3 teacher, Mrs. Catton was memorable as I recall her being one of the first teachers who actually took an interest in me and encouraged me.
-
my favorite teacher in elementary school was sister renee- my second grade teacher(i went to catholic school til 3rd grade)–i remember just wanting to be like her and wanted to be a nun just like her. her kindness ,her sense of humor, her patience with us,just a genuine person that i was in awe of. well, i never became a nun(my husband is thankful for that…lol!) but i still feel like she was a big influence on the start of my school career and showed me that teachers/nuns are real people too and can have a positive impact on us that carries us through our lives. jen t.

My favorite teacher was my High School science teacher Mr. Hundley, he inspired me to get a science degree in college.
-
Mr. Schweigerling was my math teacher in High School–and I’ve never forgotten him. Taught me alot about math, and made it interesting. When I was an exchange student my jr. year, he gave me a neat book of poetry as a going away present, and an inspiration message written on the envelope. What an awesome man he was.
Thx for giving me a chance to tell you! ( and to win!!) -
Mr Lutey – he was tough & at the time I needed that
-
My favorite was my French phonetics teacher when I studied in Paris. She really paid such close attention to us americans so we could sound a little more French when we spoke their language. She was really nice about how badly we butchered it at times, too.
-
My favorite teacher teacher was College Algebra and Calculus teacher in high school. She challenged me daily, but also show me daily that she cared about me doing my best. She would work with me any time and every time I needed her. She was wonderful. She made such a special connection with me that I invited her to my wedding years later.
