Although I’m a diehard paper crafter, I do enjoy other types of crafts, too. I’ve tried knitting, crochet (didn’t do too well with that one), painting and woodworking. None of those stuck with for too long; except for sewing. I love to sew. Lately, I’ve returned to making baby quilts. They are great because they are small and easy to finish. Care to see my latest project?
I recently discovered “charm packs”. At my lqs (local quilt shop) these are available in a variety of fabrics and colors. A charm pack is a set of 40 precut squares of fabric ready to stitch together.

Since I wanted a standard size baby quilt, I picked up two of these packs for a total of 80 squares. I randomly stitched them together in ten rows of eight.

Next, I layered my quilt top with a thin cotton batting and a solid white backing.

After machine quilting all along the seams, I added a coordinating fabric binding. Didn’t it turn out cute?

The more I looked at it, the more inspired I became. “Do you know what?” I said to myself, “This would make a great card.” What can I say? It usually comes back to paper crafting after all.

I have another craft that I am obessed with BUTTTTT it only happens when I am expecting! Ha… really I don’t know why but once I know I am expecting I head over to my local craft store and grab me bundles of yarn and needles and start to knit like a mad woman! lol.. Go figure.. I have tried to do it when I have not but it just doesn’t feel the same?? lol.. I said I want to take a class to learn how to make sweaters and other things as all I can knit is blankets! HA…
Hubby said sure go ahead take a class but those sweaters and booties will be for our grandchildren right?? Hmm think he’s trying to tell me something??? ROFL
I love to make necklaces and bracelets. It is so relaxing!
I am a big fan of sewing… I usually alternate between sewing and paper crafting every couple of weeks! I just love to play with colors and prints.
I have never quilted before but yours makes me want to try! That is sooooooooooo gorgeous!! IT gives me a warm nostalgic feeling – my gramma used to make me these gorgeous blankets which I’ve treasured for years. AND with your instructions I think I just might be able to pull this off!!
I love papercrafting, but my other hobby is gardening. ♥
I love, making wedding gowns, quilts, jewelry, kids crafts cards and scrapbooking. I love to teach others how to craft.
I love to cross stitch. Something about all those little “x’s” make me happy. I too have tried almost all crafts, some were okay, some were awful. But I love to make greeting cards, ATC’s and work on my cross stitch. Thanks for asking.
I am not ashamed to say that other than scrapbooking, I have no other crafty hobbies
) I almost did not scrapbook 10 years when I thought myself uncrafty or uncreative, but I do have photos galore, so I went to the party that I was invited to, the rest is history
I do a lot of diffferent crafts, which includes- paper crafting, polymer caly sculpting, sewing, punch needle, latch hooking, jewerly making, knitting, crocheting, etc. Do you think I love crafts?
Kim! WOW! That’s gorgeous! The quilt if fantastic, and I love the card you made too!
I really stick to paper crafts. I do have a sewing machine, and I would love to learn how to use it more! I got a great machine at a garage sale a couple of years ago, and I usually just use it on cards and layouts!
I really want to quilt—but I can’t sew a straight line—do you think that would present a problem?! I used to cross-stitch years ago and even did the duplicate stitch on sweaters and I loved that—my knitting didn’t go so well! Mostly it’s paper for me now!
I am a past quilter too! Your baby quilt is so gorgeous!!
Your quilt and card are both amazing!
I love crafts of different kinds. Besides card making, scrapbooking, and other paper crafts, I also love crocheting, cross stitch, and sewing, But strangely enough, I only sew ‘objects,’ like bags/purses, aprons, pillows, things like that. I’ve always wanted to try a quilt, but always found it too intimidating. But, your instructions make it sound so easy! Could this be true, could it really be that easy?? But, no matter what craft I’m doing, I always somehow bring it back to the paper crafts, too. For example, I crochet flowers or make a cross stitch piece that I can use on cards or scrapbook pages, and I, of course, sew on paper! Your statement about how it all comes back to paper crafting is SOOOOO true!!
Beautiful baby quilt! In addition to card making and scrapbooking, I enjoy cross-stitching. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love making decor for the home- from framed wall-hanging pieces to throw pillows- and I also love coin collecting
Wow…love the quilt and love the card. I’ve got some scraps screaming my name now!
Wow, both you card and quilt are gorgeous!!
I love to make jewelry and I used to sew a lot too, It’s too hard to find the time lately.
I was really inspired watching you make this day by day. I wish I had the determination to “go for it”. But I do enjoy cross stitching besides all the papercrafting. Someday I’ll make a quilt.
Aside from scrapbooking, I love cardmaking, altered art and paper crafting. I also used to do cross-stitching. I’m a crafty person so I try to venture into different crafts once in a while..
I love to sew too… and I try to paint but it’s difficult
I create some necklace with beautiful pearls, for my and my sister !!
I use to sew a little, for my home decoration and I love to read your blog to have more inspiration
thanks
I learned to knit and crochet before I was a teenager and still do from time to time. I also was sewing very young and still do. I make all kinds of things but I have really enjoyed making quilts and have made several for family members (and myself of course). Now I also do paper crafts and like you see things in other projects for inspiration. Love the baby quilt, by the way!!
I love quilting, or rather looking through books, magazines, and web sites for a pattern, then searching for the perfect fabric, cutting it into the pieces, sewing some of the pieces together, and then putting it aside to start the all over, leaving me with a UFO (Un-Finished Object). I love making cards because it’s easier to finish them. But, I still love the looking for a pattern and finding the correct paper part!
all of my craftyness has evolved from paper crafting — sewing and soldering are two things i’ve picked up along the way that i just love!
My fave thing to do now is make cards but I also scrapbook. My Mom has crocheted for many years. I did that a years ago but now I made myself some flowers for my cards!
I do lots of crafts–mostly I make cards but I also knit, crochet, sew, watercolor, and do home decor things! The current project is centerpieces for sons’ grad party–no flowers allowed!
Kim, love-Love-LOVE it! Quilts just beg to be touched–I can’t keep from it! And there are almost as many fabrics out there as there are papers! I’ve made 2 baby quilts in my life, but LOVE card-making, because it uses the same skills/talents/abilities as putting fabrics together, but doesn’t take NEAR as much time, space or [sewing] talent for me! I combined my love of quilting and papers a few years ago and made a beautiful poster-sized “paper quilt” for my wall–It looks like you had the same idea that I did! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful quilt! I’ve quilted in the past, but when I got into scrapbooking and card-making, I kind of let it go. But seeing yours makes me want to get at it again. Besides quilting I enjoy small sewing projects-like the sock monkeys I made for my daughter. And it’s not really crafty, but I also love to bake!
Beside Paper Crafting, I also do quilling & punch needle.
I crochet and sew but don’t really enjoy the sewing. Paper quilts are my favorite to make as I love punch art and enjoy putting the pieces of beautiful paper together. I love making punch art orchids and roses out of velum. And quilling is my first love which led to card making. I’ve made Christmas ornaments and floral wreaths too.
Floral arranging is a crafty hobby I like to do but I spend most of my time on paper crafting. There’s so much you can do with paper crafting!
Your baby quilt is so lovely. That will be one happy baby.
I love to needlepoint. I have been doing it for to many years to count.
I do sew and make quilts but that is on and off hobby.
I also love to rubber stamp.
Thanks for sharing your quilt and card with us.
debbie peysen
The quilts are so cute and the card is adorable too! Since my friend introduced me to card making/rubber stamping a couple of years ago, I’ve been hooked! I also enjoy knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.
I started my love of paper by creating collages and mixed media. Now I love combining paper and sewing together into one. My collection of paper just grows and grows but I just think paper is so beautiful in all its different forms and patterns – I just can’t help myself.
What a lovely quilt – such a lucky baby who receives it!! I hope to learn to quilt someday, it looks so difficult to do. I used to know how to knit and crochet, my grandmother taught me, but she passed away long ago and I have forgotten how to do either. I love papercrafts, sketching, photography, cooking/baking and candy making/decorating. I’d say I like scrapbooking as well, but I have yet to reduce my ideas and photos to paper. Thanks for a great blog today and for directing us to your blog for more quilting how to’s!!
I like to knit in the winter!
OMG! I didn’t even realize you were “Pesti Kesti” until just now!!!!Duh. lol. LOVE the quilt. Thanks for explaining how you did it. I’m not quite so intimidated now. I plan on learning to quilt this summer.
I love to garden and put together planters using unusual flower combos
Your quilt is fab!! And the card is obviously inspired by it! I love my stamping, scrapbooking, and writing. But, I’m also getting into painting and beginning to sew. I just love anytime that I can find to get a little creative! :>
The quilt turned out so cool, luv it!!! I’ve enjoyed counted cross stitch from way back. I really enjoy the process very relaxing.
I also like to sew, crochet and cross stitch but there just isn’t time for everything so right now I’m a scrapper.
L♥VE Moda charm packs!!!!!…
and man, oh, man Kim, you ROCKED this one!!!
I neeeeed it… feeling the urge to drive to my LQS right now!!
Thanks for sharing, and encouraging the quilting bug to bite me again
hugs & ♥♥♥~

i love sewing, but I’m not a good sewer…
I too love quilting!! When I cut squares too small, I sew them up and put them on cards…like you said, right back to papercrafting!
Kim, your quilt is awesome!! And you make it sound so darn easy. Someday I’ll make one and hope to have results half as good as this. My craft hobbies are mainly buying stuff…fabric, yarn, embroidery thread, paper crafting stuff.
I do like to knit though, just haven’t learned to do much besides dishcloths and hats.
My true passion is paper crafts – scrapbooking, mini albums, cards, etc. But I do enjoy easy sewing projects. I like playing with my embroidery machine too.
I wish I knew how to crochet.
Thanks for the chance to win!
I’m pretty much just a papercrafter. I have tried knitting..never got to purling..couldnt crochet three stitches. Havent sewn (including on my paper..but have a machine..and aim to try this summer, especially since i got some Amy Butler fabric to make a purse with) since High School.
I do enjoy jewelry making..but Papercraft is my IT..my relaxer..just me!
I do love your quilt..and seeing those quarter packs.makes me want to go out and try it!
I definitely have tried and love many other crafts!! Most recently I began knitting more regularly and had a lot of fun with socks one Christmas!
I used to sew a lot more than I do now . . . I do make a hand-smocked outfit for each of my children for their baby dedication at church and for their 1st birthday portraits. Your quilt is just beautiful! I went to the quilt shop recently and fell in love with jelly rolls – sooo cool!!
I love lots of different crafts including sewing, knitting, crocheting, metal embossing, soldering, and paper crafts especially rubber stamping. I even consider my flower gardens a craft of sorts as I’m always redesigning & creating new areas with different plants & color combinations. The craft I’ve stuck with for the longest period of time is rubber stamping. I never seem to tire of it.
