I’ve never fancied myself a funny person. Occasionally I’ll come up with a good zinger, but these moments are typically rare and far between. That being said, I love to laugh! I love watching silly slapstick movies and listening to other people’s stories of humorous hysteria. Since my personal funny bone seems to be a bit underdeveloped, I was particularly nervous about my assignment for card group last month. Ms. P.K. asked us to come with funny birthday cards – yikes!
I decided to rely on most people’s fear of clowns and my love of vintage images. Here’s what I came up with:

Fear of Clowns Card by Yours Truly
Okay, so I admit it isn’t roll on the floor funny, but it has a certain charm… doesn’t it? Luckily, the laughs didn’t end with our cards. All of us had a wonderful evening giggling, eating and transforming gift bags into works of art. Here’s a sampling of the cute birthday-themed gift bags we worked on:

If you give them gift bags, they will decorate them!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’d like to encourage all of you to find a group of ladies you love and start a card group! It’s so much fun and a great way to stretch your creativity. Plus, you get to spend one night a month with amazing ladies like this:

Aren't we a cute bunch?! In case any of you are mesmerized by the warm color of Jennifer's dining room walls, she used Behr's Hidden Honey paint.
The very generous P. Kelly has agreed to donate a few gift bags just for YOU! So leave a comment telling us your favorite funny sentiment for a card. We’ll randomly select one winner to receive a selection of birthday-themed gift bags. All comments must be received by midnight (MST) on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Laughin’ it up,
Brandy
P.S. Welcome to September! Did you know that September is… Self Improvement Month, Be Kind to Editors and Writers Month (my personal favorite!), International Square Dance Month, Cable TV Month, National Bed Check Month, National Chicken Month, National Courtesy Month, National Honey Month, National Mind Mapping Month, National Piano Month, National Rice Month, National Papaya Month and Classical Music Month.

Love the bags! But I really love the card!!!! Too funny…
-
Today is my birthday, and though I didn’t end up with any FUNNY cards, I have to say that I do love the “money cards” that say something like: I wanted to get you something special for your birthday” and then the inside says “so I got you this card!” and something to the effect that there isn’t any money inside this money sized card… My dad used to give me one, and then tuck a bill inside just the envelope, not the card to fake me out! Gotta love dads!
-
my favorite–”happy 29th…..again!!”
-
Here’s a sentiment that I think speaks volumes:
Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!!!
-
I on the other hand am hysterically funny!!! So I tell myself. My whole family is funny, so we challenge each other to find the funniest cards for birthdays. Some of my big hits: “So were you like really sad when all those dinosaurs died?” “It’s great to be known as the fun one…… unless you’re in prison.” And one year I gave my brother a card that was completely in Spanish. We DON’T speak Spanish.
Hope you’re laughing. -
Oh–I saw this on a card last week and about died laughing. I am so sorry I do not remember whose card it was. Picture a “heavyset lady in a bathing suit.” The sentiment was I do not skinny dip, I chunky dunk. How funny is that!
-
“I’m not one to drown my sorrows … I prefer to suffocate them with chocolate chip cookies!”
-
i reach for ‘funny’ over ’sentimental’ every time. my husband, being a firefighter, always gets snarky ones, like ‘i would have had cake for you today, but the fire department got here first’. i loved rae’s ‘make a wish–quickly!’ [from the latest idol contest]. one of my favorites was a beautiful sunrise on the front cover with the lyrics to the beatles’ song, ‘here comes the sun… do do do do… here comes the sun…’ [open card] ‘oh, sorry, that was your birthday cake!’ another one had a sweet-looking fairy on the front with the inside sentiment, ‘looks like the birthday fairy zapped you with ANOTHER one!’ fun stuff! ~k

“Better to be over the hill than under it”

Love decorated bags. Especially unique ones!
-
I love those cards that play the music. I remember I have my dad one that said “when it comes to your age…” “you have the right to remain silent!” I thought it was pretty good. Maybe he didn’t…
-
I love funny birthday cards. My favorite sentiment for a birthday card is “A true friend remembers your birthday but not your age. “
-
I can’t think of any funny sayings right now. Maybe it’s my old age.
-
I think your fear of clowns card is funny…who could look at that picture and not laugh! My favorite birthday quote is one that I recently got from a friend: “Happy Birthday … you old bird!” Those birds are everywhere lately!
-
Pick an age you like and stick to it.
-
I love the bags!!! How pretty they all are. A funny one..(well, at least to me) is: “Enjoy your birthday!!! They more you have, the better!” Actually sent to my SIL..he didn’t get it!! He’s young though!
-
Bags are adorable – I’m thinking of a sentiment – Survival of the fittest and smartest. Congratulations on surviving another year.
-
I loved this card I received once – “You’ve got the body of a 21 year old – Give it back, you’re making it all wrinkly”. And I am still friends with this girl.
-
Such a cute card! My fav sentiment was on a card from my younger sister….Happy Birthyday! You aren’t really that old…..but you will always be older than me! Only a sister could get away with that one!
-
I like the sentiment – “The best thing about growing older is that it takes such a long time” by Walters Kemp.
-
The one that I use so often is an old lady stamp, either in a bikini and a party horn or an old lady in exercise clothes, leg warmers and all and then I have a stamp that goes with them that says:
Party your panties off !
it’s hilarious and everyone gets a big kick out of it !
-
On front “___ is just a number…” (fill in appropriate age)
Inside “… but it IS a really BIG number!” -
“Happy Birthday to a real fungi” from SAS is my fave expression on a card, so is “Bad Hair Day” from SAS as well.
-
Ok a few of the ones I like to put in cards are:
Don’t worry about wrinkles, they’re just antique smiles. At your age isn’t happy hour nap time?
You’re not old….You’re a recycled teenager!
I hope this might make at least one person laugh.
Thanks for a chance.
-
I am not too clever with funny sentiments but 21 again works for me.
-
I love the card! As a person with a fear of clowns….I can relate. Love the image! LOL
My favorite birthday saying is actually a quote from Lucille Ball,
“The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age”
hee hee – not slap your elbow funny but cutesy to get a giggle.
-
One of my favorites is: Another birthday?! Weren’t you old enough last year??!
I have to say, those are awfully cute bags! ~Bev~
-
I like the message on the fron that I bought you gourmet chocolates for your birthday…..then open and there are three empty candy cups. (oops – couldn’t wait to celebrate.)

I wish I was there no crafters near me boo
