A Paper Crafted Wedding

It’s official! I thought I would let our loyal readers know that I finally got engaged last Tuesday after dating my now-fiancé (wow that feels weird to say!), Todd, for three years. We went to look at the stars (with a telescope borrowed from his neighbor) at our favorite place in our favorite canyon, and after a while of him acting nervous and fidgety, he got on one knee and asked me. I couldn’t have asked for anything better—it was personal, thoughtful, and just our style.

Almost immediately, I started thinking about the long “to-do” list that I need to finish before my winter wedding—I decided on black, white and gold for my colors, and I was even able to book my dream reception hall last weekend! But more than anything, I want everything possible to be as personal and thoughtful as Todd’s proposal.

And here's my new favorite piece of jewelry!

Of course, when I came to the Paper Crafts office the next day, I started getting excited about all the personal touches I could add to my big day with my own paper crafts. And this is where the loyal readers and contributors come in. After discussing it with the amazingly creative editor, Kelly, we decided that it would be fun (and also helpful for me!) to see what wedding ideas you paper crafters have. Any paper craft related to a wedding would be fun—from invitations and thank-you cards to favors and reception décor! And since no idea is a bad idea, I’ll randomly pick two people to win a wedding-themed clear stamp set. All comments must be received by midnight (MST) on Friday, Sept. 25.

Thanks for all of the contributions you make to Paper Crafts. I’m excited to see whatever ideas and advice are given to me—I need all that I can get!

Your Paper Crafts intern,
Nicki

P.S. Today just happens to be Brandy’s birthday! I’m sure we’ll be posting pictures of her new birthday sign very soon! Happy birthday to one cute momma-to-be!

    Congratulations! How exciting!

Okay, the thing that popped into my head was a “paper-crafted” candy bar! I’ve seen online where people do a candy bar for the favors, and I’m thinking off all the things you could craft for it…set up a pretty table, make a banner, tie handmade labels onto jars of candy, embellish favor bags with a tag/your new monogram…There’s so much you could do, and it would be so fun to pull together! =)

Congratulations! I found these cute favor boxes on Martha Stewart’s website. http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/templates-and-clip-art?#slide_6

This should be the happiest of all occasions. If it is small wedding you can do more personal stuff. Our lastest wedding they made each table a place that was important to the bride or the groom. It represented the place each one grew up, or place that went together the was memorable. Having those cameras for guest to take candid shots is always fun but make sure the photographer you hire has no rules about this. Most of all if end up buying everything it still your wedding and poeple just come to celabrate you both. Good Luck.

I like all the favors/programs suggestions! You could also do lumiaries out of beautiful paper- and with the flame free tea-lights you don’t have to worry about burning down the receptioin! ;)
    Best Wishes!
    ps- Happy Birthday, Brandy! :D

Congratulations! My suggestio would be to make little thank you gifts from paper for your guests at your wedding. With todays range of paper cratfting products the sky’s the limit. It could be mini picture frame, a bag or boxes or sort to hold a cute mini soap or potpourri or candy..all make from paper.

Congratulations! There are so many things that you can do for your wedding with papercrafts! A couple of things we did for my ds’s wedding were, of course, the invitations, but we also did little party favors for the tables…..easy peasy to make. I’m sure your going to find just the right thing for you and your wedding! Good luck and have fun!

  7. Congratulations!!! What an exciting time for you and your fiance!!! I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and new adventures!!

Handmade items add such a personal touch to special occasions like this. You could make your invitations—-I recently saw a group of girls assembling wedding invitations in the work room at Archivers. Archivers’ “Yours Truly” line of blank card/invitation sets are awesome!! They come in so many different colors and finishes, and they can be as basic as a postcard or as elaborate as a trifold with pockets inside!! Also, you could make the programs for your ceremony, favors (with all of the mini box templates available and beautiful designer papers and ribbons these could be simple yet so elegant), a card box for your guests to put cards into, place cards, etc.

I was at a wedding once where the bride and groom had a large blank photo mat that all of the guests wrote well wishes on. They had the photographer take a group photo of everyone at the wedding, and they matted the photo with the signed photo mat, framed it, and hung it in their home!!

    Well, happy planning!!! ENJOY!!!

Congrats!! You guys are cute! (but who is in the pic with you? random person? that’s kinda funny. course you can photoshop her out, but it’s still funny. There’s always one in the crowd who gets in your shot.)

Wedding Idea–candy bar favors with your photo on the homemade wrapper or a little square of iridescent cellophane wrapped around 5 Hershey kisses and a tag with your photo and date.

Or cookie bags with something super cute stamped on them and a table of cookies to choose from as favors. Make the bags smallish tho–so people don’t take 10 cookies!

    Have fun!!

Congrats, I know this is an excited time for u. I recently got married this yr (Aug 22nd) and it was an amazing day. With your paper crafting skills there is so much u can do, even outside of paper crafting.

First- Personally design your wedding cake and/or the grooms cake ( I did and he loved it). It was an amazing feeling being my design to life (3D and edible).

Second- The invitations with the bows on them are tooo cute, but they can be costly. So order the invites make sure there is enought room at the top for u to go to work. Call over your bridemaids, take out your crop-dile, eyelets, and go to your craft store and get alot of ribbon (look for sales, dollar tree).

Third- I made my own thank you cards for my Bridmaids & Maid Of Honor

Lastly- I got a shadow box from my craft store and put the invite inside and a ring bearer pillow that I decorated myself and placed it at the place card table. People loved it and we got a keepsake to last forever.

The way I look at it, this is your only wedding, so make the best for it. If you can Do it yourself……Do it. I stand by the DIY Bride (lol) cause people see things at your wedding that they never seen before. Timelines and deadlines are very important. Your going to have tons of fun planning your wedding. If u would like to see any pictures check out my blog. Look for the post on wedding DIY and It’s been a long time. Congrats again and I hope this helped.

    Congrats on your engagement!

I’ve been to a lot of weddings, and even had one of my own. Some ideas that were super cute are:

for my wedding I had a pretty treasure chest looking box and a basket next to it with blank cards. I asked each person to write us an important marriage tip, memory, etc. on the card and place it in the box. I loved this and cherished everyone’s thoughts and well wishes.

of course, the classic– hershey hugs and kisses in a bag with little flags saying “hugs and kisses from the Mr. and Mrs.!”

A friend had matchbooks printed with their names and they said “A Match Made in Heaven” and included a cute little tea light candle

My cousin had a “jelly bean” bar… lots of tall glass jars filled with jelly bellies. Her colors were lime green and sea blue, so she had those colors. There were little boxes and each person could fill their own box with ice scoops of their favorite colors. Very cute!

She also had an outside wedding and had paper lanterns handing from the trees. Very oriental and stylish.

For centerpieces at my wedding, money was tight so I went to Garden Ridge and Hobby Lobby and got those round mirrors (12″ ones) and little short, round vases. I cut artificial white gerbera daisies, sprayed them with spray glitter, curled the ends and put them in the vase, and sprinkled red pebbles all around the mirror. it turned out cute.

Depending on when you are having your wedding, if you have it in December or January, you can get some sparkly snowflake ornaments from Wally World for super cheap, and hang them with fishing line from things. Very pretty.

I printed our own programs, and included a bookmark that I made with our pictures on it, thanking everyone for making our day special.

I hope these ideas have helped. Good luck with all the preparations, and enjoy the time planning. It will be here and over before you know it, so make sure you focus on what is important to YOU! :)

CONGRATS on your Engagement! and many blessings to you both. I got married 25 years ago … if I was doing it over, I’d use many of the ideas posted here! Have fun.

  12. cards4ever says:

Congrats. I idea for the favors would be to cover small paper mache boxes with papers and ribbons and do a big flower on the lid. You could fill them with candies or a photo of you two.

  13. Laura Stewart says:

I would make one of those polaroid stations where everyone leaves you a photo with a message on it

I love PTI’s little stamp set for wedding favors found here:
    http://www.papertreyink.com/stamps_favoritweddings.html

it gives you some great ideas on little favors or even hostess gifts—for showers and things. All sorts of ideas from just looking at the stamp set—and, no, I don’t work for them! :) just love their stuff!

I’m planning a wedding for my daughter next summer, but we haven’t really done much yet—I look forward to reading the rest of the comments! Congratulations and best wishes on your new life together!

    First of all: CONGRATS!!!

I know I’m late, but I love weddings (in fact it’s my profession *gg*) and if I could help, I would really be happy.
I have a few fotos from table decorations especially for winter weddings. I am from Germany, so maybe they do not really meet the “American Style”, but there are really wonderfull examples. So if you are interested, please e-mail me and I will send you the files.

There are sooo many suggestions here, but let me add 2 of my “favourites”:
    1. instead of table cards for each guest, I sometimes take styropor e.g. one half of ball-form, or styropor hearts. Decorate them with modelling paste, napkins, decoupage or anything else. Then punch out hearts from corresponding paper, decorate them, if you want to (stamps…) adhere them to wooden sticks (I mean something like toothpicks, a bit longer). Write the name of the guest on one heart and plug the sticks into the styropor. That means: all guests of one table know where to sit and have a great memory to take with them…

    2. A big fashion here is to send little cards/ bits of paper together with the invitations. Ask the guests (or each pair of guests) to decorate that paper as they like: decorate them, paint, give wishes, sentiments… and to bring it to the wedding. This will give a great, individual guest book. Most of the guests do not have the time to really think about their writing into a guest book and giving them the time to prepare this, really brings beautiful results…

Hm, I have so many ideas for weddings… but do not want to spam ;-)

But the most important comes now *gg*:
ENJOY the preparation time for your wedding, and enjoy your special day!

I wish you all the best!

    Hugs from Germany,
    gabriele
