Freebie Friday – Countdown to World Card Making Day

Freebie Friday Countdown to World Card Making Day

P. Kelly Smith

Welcome to Freebie Friday! This week has literally flown by! We had a blast at our annual Editorial Board Meeting. This was the first time all of the new Go-to Gals and the Paper Crafts team were in one room. Our Go-to Gals flew in on Monday, flew out on Wednesday and in between those short 48 hours, we found time to review all of last year’s magazines, concept all of next year’s issues, participate in two photo shoots, enjoy two dinner parties and laugh until our stomachs hurt. Who knew “working” could be so much fun!

And the fun continues because all next week we’ll be counting down the days until World Card Making Day arrives on Saturday, October 3. We’re once again partnering with creative editor Cath Edvalson and her Moxie Fab World blog. She’s taking a really fun approach that plays off the “world” title in her blog. If you thought Paper Crafts magazine couldn’t reach the far corners of the earth, wait until you see what Cath has in store! The global participation begins next Monday, so make sure you check back with us!

  1. Toni Storie says:

I think that card making has a universal appeal because it is a creative outlet for all. Cards can be quick and easy to make or as involved as you want them to be. When you are finished, you have a piece of art! The bonus part is that you share your piece of art with the card’s recipient. A personal connection!

  2. Sheila says:

It’s something that everybody can do no matter their age, income or skill level. It comes from the heart and is always appreciated. Cards are like little kisses. They’re little packages of happiness.

  3. I think cardmaking has universal appeal because you can make something handmade in just a short amount of time. Unlike some other crafts, which can take days or even months to create, cards can be made in minutes. It’s a great option for busy people who still want to give something handmade.

  4. bzyPTmom says:

I think it’s universal because everone sends greeting cards, it’s therapeutic and fun to make them and also giving something that you made yourself shows the receiver that you really care about them and are willing to put time and effort into celebrating their special occasion.

  5. Jenink says:

What’s not to love? It caters to all sorts of styles and experience levels, is quick, practical and the best bit is giving it away to others.

Cardmaking is so fun and rewarding. It is something anyone can do no matter where they live. The internet has allowed us to see people’s work from all over the globe, which is also very fun. And, since people can purchase supplies from the internet I can order the same stamp set as someone in Australia. It’s amazing. One other example is Cards for Heroes. I can send my challeng cards in and they go to troops that are stationed all over the world too.

  11. Rachel S says:

I think everyone everywhere appreciates a thoughtful, handmade card.

  12. Lorraine says:

Making cards is good, clean FUN! That’s why everybody likes it. It is so much more exciting for the recipient of the card if it was made with that person in mind too so it makes the card maker use their brain when making the card, which is always good for us!

Because everybody loves to receive a card. It makes them feel special that someone remembered them. It makes them feel extra special if it is handmade because they knew that you took the time to hand craft the card for them.

  27. Bernice J. says:

I think it’s because a person can satisfy their creative side in a project that doesn’t take forever to complete; I also think that there are certain people that all of us know that just appreciate a hand made card because they know that a little bit of our soul and love went into the making of it.

  28. jen says:

I think card making is so satisfying because it gives you a chance at a creative outlet and at THE SAME TIME lets you ‘give’ something of yourself when you give that card to someone else! Nothing better than a handmade gift- and that’s what cards are!

  29. Cathy says:

I think card-making has such a universal appeal because deep down all of us have times when we’ve needed a little pick-me-up from a friend and I think all of us hope, that at some time, we can be that for someone else when they need it – cards are a simple but effective way to say you’re thinking of someone – no matter what the occasion.

    Cathy

  30. Brenda L. says:

I think card making is universal because it is a beautiful artform that so many can exchange with each other. It is just like music or poetry.

  31. Melanie C says:

It’s universal because most people enjoy giving cards to ones they love and what a better way to show your love, but by taking the time to make them a special card.

  32. Gracie says:

I think it’s nice that we have World Card Making Day. It’s a way to remind us of the traditional way of keeping in touch with friends and loved ones and I think handmade cards give a more personal touch rather than the virtual stuff we have today. In this day of technolog, internet, e-mails, etc. it’s still nice to receive and exchange hand made cards.

  33. Jo B says:

When I receive a handmade card myself I feel the person has added themselves, it feels more like a gift.

  37. Char- D says:

I think card making has such a universal appeal because it is an easy gift from the heart.

  38. Carol M. says:

Making cards for others is one way of sharing part of yourself. I always make it personal, each card is designed for that person. It’s made with love and I know they all appreciate that. That’s why it’s the one thing in the World that each person can do for someone else. Even making a generic card is still sharing something for your heart! And after all, isn’t it “Love that makes the World go round”???

  39. sandee says:

I think everyone loves getting a card, especially a homade card made JUST for them! Much better than texting !!

  40. SueB says:

Just as in my needlepoint, where I used to make larger patterns that took forever and now tend to make smaller seasonal pieces … it’s the same with my scrapping! I used to scrapbook and in the last few years have tended to lean toward making cards – smaller, compact “pieces of art” that I can share with friends and family!

… tho’ I really should toss in a scrapbook page now and then, LOL!

Thanx for the inspiration and chance at the t’riffic blog candy!

  41. Laura Stewart says:

I think because it’s easy and such a fun and personal gift to give

  42. Anne B. says:

Easy to get started and we all need cards! :)

  43. Granna Deanna says:

We all have a need to connect with someone. We also have a need to create. For those of us that paper craft, those two needs uniquely blend and lead to expression through cards. The process is satisfying to the giver and the result is pleasing to the recipient. The time, talent, and effort that it takes to create a home-crafted card is considered part of the gift and a measure of the value of the recipient. It is also a reflection of the giver. The recipient has tangible evidence of their own worth to enjoy for many months. All of this to say, no matter where you live, we like makin’ ‘em & we like gettin’ ‘em!!

  44. Kary Sol says:

Fantastic giveawey! I want to be lucky winner….
I think card making has such an universal appeal because it something unusual, exclusive, the card becomes only one.
The understanding of that that such is more at anybody is not present gives to the person sensation of happiness.
I like to do cards, for me it as meditation, leaving from vital problems. It is my personal world, the Universe giving to me calmness and possibility to create…

  45. Card making is a really simple way to show someone you are thinking of them. With a few basic supplies you can make something beautiful to make someone’s day.

  46. Jaquelyn says:

I love to make cards because I can create exactly what I need. I can make a card to suit any recipient. And everyone loves to get a card you made yourself! =)

  47. Stacy says:

Anyone can make a card experienced or not- getting better and more complex with practice. It’s so nice to be able to share cards with others. For me it is so much faster than creating a scrapbook page and it can brighten someones day.

  48. Giovana says:

A handmade card always brings more happines. I love to recieve handmade stuff and I love to give them too. People aways love them and it is more appreciate it.

  49. adkgurl says:

For me, card making is a win-win situation…it’s therapeutic, quick and gratifying to give, while the card shows care and love to the recipient. What a better way to make 2 hearts feel good with one good deed! :-) ) Art, like music, can be understood regardless of the observers spoken language; It is universal. :-) )

  50. Jane says:

I think it’s appealing because it’s personal. It’s not a message or an email it’s gorgeous paper with beautiful images and embellishments and bling if you like……..it says I took the time to express myself creatively and show you that I care. And of coarse…….it’s THERAPY!!!
