P. Kelly Smith
Welcome to Freebie Friday! As you probably already know, we take holidays very seriously around here. Maybe it’s because we put so much thought into covering them in our regular and special issues (usually six months ahead of time!), that when the real holiday comes around, we feel like we have to acknowledge it a big way - just so the circle is complete.
Here at the office we’re finalizing the details for our team Halloween costume. And while I can’t reveal what the actual theme is (there’s a lot of Creating Keepsakes spies around here!), I can tell you it’s absolutely perfect for our team of eight women and one man. (I know some of you think you know, but it’s not what you think!) Let’s just say when next Friday rolls around, we’re going to give the CK team a run for their money in our company’s annual Halloween costume contest. We’ll show you pictures the following Monday!
For all of you moms and grandmas out there who plan on making your child/grandchild’s costume, I tip my hat to you. My own grandma is an amazing seamstress and made so many of my costumes growing up. Sadly that sewing gene was not passed down to me – even despite her best attempts to teach me. I wonder what happened to that little sewing machine she bought me?
Back to the kiddie costumes… I was leafing through our September/October issue and came across Davinie Fiero’s Boo Crew Halloween Decor on p. 32. Is that not the cutest picture/project you’ve ever seen? And it’s 5 steps or less! Make sure you click on Davinie’s blog to read the cute story behind the photo and to see the layout she created using a similar image.

Davinie Fiero's Boo Crew Halloween Decor from our Sept/Oct issue.
Recently I came across this team picture from last year’s Halloween festivities. I’m thinking about recreating Davinie’s fun project and instead of the cute kiddos, it will be the groovy PC chicks! What do you think?

Beware...dangerous hippies up ahead!
So while I won’t be sewing my costume this year (or any year to come!), I can definitely have fun paper crafting my priceless memories. For today’s giveaway, I have three sets of the Craft Fair collection from American Crafts. For all you crafty sewers out there, this collection is right up your alley! And even if you don’t sew, it’s still some cool product to play with! To be entered to win, leave a comment telling me a talent you possess. Whether you’re a butcher, baker or candlestick maker, I want to hear all about it! All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Happy Friday!
Kelly
P.S. If you plan on making some fun Halloween projects this weekend, why not enter them in our October Gallery Challenge? We have almost 400 entries so far! The deadline is midnight (MDT) on Monday, Oct. 26, so don’t delay!
P.P.S. It’s time to announce the winner of Kim Kesti’s The Christmas Rush post!
1. Heidi Stock (Oct. 21, 2:48 p.m.)
Congrats, Heidi! You’ve won all of Kim’s cards featured in this post! I’ll be contacting you shortly to get your mailing address. Thanks to all who left comments!

My major talent is in music. I can’t play by ear, but I am a great sight reader and I have learned to play a wide assortment of instruments over the years.
My talent is I can whip up a great meal with whatever I’ve got on hand. Sometimes it is an odd meal, but it is still tasty and well-balanced.
My talents consists of cooking, sewing, baking, and working with yarns, polymer clay, paper, beads, etc. I guess I like to try new things so my talents are always expanding.
I used to sew for a living…it was so much fun and I got paid for it!! Can’t beat that..except that now I’d like to get paid for paper crafting! Like you “wild & crazy gals”!! I also am a “gluten-free baker” and very good at it. Right now I’m working on a recipe book of my GF Recipes out of a mini album by 7gypsies.
Said, my talent in understanding of men….
My girlfriends ask to open a course on “management of the man”…. I think, I HAD a talent – I produced pictures from a skin and a semiprecious stone. But three years I vegitarient, help “Green peace”, therefore the skin remained in the past. Tried to replace with its other material – it is impossible… Now I try to find myself in paper art…
I am AMAZING at multitasking. I can pay bills, watch the kids, watch TV, talk on the phone and paint my toe nails all at the same time.
Hmmmm – I guess I am talented at scrapbooking. If by that you mean getting a chance to preserve a memory or moment in my family’s life to enjoy at a later time, while having a creative outlet for me. Than I am very talented! Plus I am an avid reader!
My talent besides scrapbooking & making cards is cooking cajun food. My jambalaya & gumbo rock!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE PAPERCRAFTING and besides that I am a dynomite cookie baker!!!!
I have exzema that is worsened by man-made fibres, each different type makes my skin itch in a different way, consequently I can tell the the make up of fabrics just by touch. Not the most useful talent but mine.
I’m a great list maker. But not so great at accomplishing all of the tasks on the list!
I am a fantastic organizer. I just love organizing for me, for friends, family, you name it. It is a form of meditation actually, it helps me to stay centered.
Besides cardmaking and scrapbooking, I can sew. I used to make many of my childrens clothes when they were little. Now I mostly fix seams and replace buttons. I can knit alittle bit – enough to make those eyelash yarn scarves. All of which keep me busy.
A talent of mine is music. I love learning new instruments and playing as much as I can!
I’m the baker in my family – desserts happen to be my speciality!
One of my favorite talents is baking—cookies, pies, cakes, muffins, coffeecakes, scones, breads…
You all made great hippies, I wonder what your theme will be this year???
Papercraft is definitely my best talent, but I’m not a bad cook and does having a talent for talking count?! HA!
That’s an awesome layout! I hope you have fun crafting up something with your cool hippie chicks photo!
My favorite talent (besides paper crafting) is looking after my animals. But I’m probably better known for cooking meals for large gatherings and organizing events.
Good luck with your hippie page!
I’m incredibly good at spending other people’s money
(I get requests to go shopping with people so I can help them find what works for them. Weird, huh?)
I claim no talents. I just see a need for a card, make and send one…….not “talented atrist” cards……just cards.
Anxious to see those costumes!
~Shari R.
I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue…exciting huh?
mmm talents… my hubby tells me I’m a good cook & baker! but it’s just following recipes, not that hard
Cute pic! I would have to say I’m good at always thinking there is a positive side to everything.
I speak Spanish, Italian, Sign Language, English and a bit of Portuguese! I love Languages!
Kim Marie
My friends call me the queen of useless knowledge…if there’s a useless factoid out there, I probably know it! So, I guess that’s my talent!
I’m an aerobics instructor just for fun!
My talent is pretty much making anything for the home, or any crafty projects of any kind from floral arrangments, wreaths, painting, jewelry, scrapping, card making, sewing, etc. Anything I put my mind to and open my heart to I usually do well. I have the type A personality and pay very close attention to detail. I also have the “If you want it done right do it yourself” attitude. Maybe a little OCD in there too ;}
My talent is being a jack of all trades, master of none. I have dabbled in plumbing, electrical, woodwork, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, hair cutting….the list goes on. I don’t have enough interest in any of them to make it a passion. Except paper crafting. That is my passion, but even in that I don’t feel like a master.
I like to cook and craft and collect supplies to do each.
I love to bake desserts mainly because I love to eat them!
I’m sort of a crafter of all sorts–I began with knitting, then crocheting, sewing, hand smocking, and now my addiction is paper crafting–mostly cards and 3D decorations. I also am a pretty decent gluten free baker–it is tricky but one learns out of necessity!
Sewing is my thing, I always do some kind of stitching on about every card I make! One of my few talents is whistling like a bird.
I would say cooking is the talent that comes more naturally to me…although I definitely have that useless knowledge gene that another poster mentioned
Alison
i define ‘talent’ as a trait that one doesn’t have to ‘work on’ [that's a skill], so my talent is that i have a really good ‘ear’–a great musical gene. i haven’t done much with it during my life except enjoy listening to music and learning to play several instruments [not well, though...that would fall under the 'skill' heading
]. oh, and that wonderfully fun useless knowledge gene…anyone for a game of ‘trivial pursuit’? ~k
I have a couple talents but my best one is probably sewing. I make bras that fit properly and that is hard to do!
Talents….hmmm…I canned 70 quarts of applesauce in the last week. On Monday and Tuesday I hauled loads of soybeans from the field to the dryers. I make cards, I sew, I love to decorate…I guess those are talents.
Besides scrapbooking, my talent is believe it or not, woodworking. I love the smell of lumber and a saw in my hands, yep, call me weird!
on top of of paper crafting i love to bead and bake!!
All it took was for me to line up 1 broadway play for a group of 25 family and friends and now I’ve become an event coordinator and we are working on our 4 broadway production. I’ve also started a wine club with a different group that I’ve been organizing gatherings for and it just keeps growing!!!! We surer have a good time!
I have a couple of talents. I am good at eating (I like just about every food out there), and exercising. I am very dedicated to physical fitness, which is good because of my first talent!!
I love plants almost as much as I love paper- so landscape design is something of a talent too!
Hmmm… I guess you can’t count being bossy because I am really really good at that so…. Sports! I was an athlete in school and had natural ability! I am sure it is all gone now but hey… I had it at one time!
I am a pretty good scrapbooker espeically for someone who doesn’t think of themselves as artistic. and I’m and fast reader and I used to have a fanastic memory eh not so much anymore. Old age creeping up lol.
I don’t know if I am “talented”, but I enjoy making candles, papercrafting, sewing, baking and decorating!
I am really blessed to have a musical talent. I can sing and play the piano and harp. I love using these talents at our church on our worship team. Nothing better than serving with the talent that I was given!
I feel that my best talent is gardening. I have many beautiful flower gardens and landscaping. I love planing new things every year and putting in a vegtable garden. It seems as if I can grow about anything.
My talent is making desserts: Cakes, Cookies, and Pies
(I do love sewing and paper crafting too)
What a great photo!! As far as talent goes, I play keyboard for our church and I just love it!
I am a seamstress, a quilter, love needlework and absolutely love to make cards.
I’m a papercrafter foremost, straight-line sewer
,and I love to think out side the box with my first grade classroom. I use all kinds of my paper crafts to create fun manipulatives for them!
