I think I had been on the job for about a month when someone started asking about editorial outlines for the books we were planning for the upcoming year.
Books. Seriously? I was still trying to figure out how a magazine works!
Luckily for me, the team raised their collective hand and suggested an inspiring idea by Wendy Sue Anderson…our friend, regular contributor, and – as of yesterday! – brand new member of the Creating Keepsakes 2010 Dream Team.

Here's CK and PC team members having some fun with Wendy Sue.
She had noted that, while cleaning up her scrapbook room and organizing stacks of idea books, she was struck with the thought of how many of them were so similar – in concept and content. She had then started thinking about what she’d like to see in an idea book – something new and different. That’s when the concept of “a card a day” popped into her head.
The rest is history, and with the expertise of our business partners at Leisure Arts, we’ve published A Card a Day: Your Ultimate Resource for Inspiration, Design, Tips & Techniques. And it seemed only natural to ask Wendy to create the cards that would open each month of the book. By now you’ve probably already seen the sneak peek, but if you haven’t then hop to it!
Speaking of sneak peeks, Wendy and I had a hoot of a time getting our official shot for the editor’s note in the book. Switching shirts, getting close, and completely trusting the experts on the shutter-clicking side of the camera to capture the excitement we had for this fun project!

Here our photographer Symoni gets a close-up of Wendy Sue.

Then it's my turn to join Wendy Sue under the spotlight.

Here Symoni looks at the computer to see if she got a good shot.

Then Symoni joins fellow photographer Brian at the computer. Notice all the cool colored drapes and boards in the background. There's every color under the rainbow!

And here Brian picks the best picture out of the bunch. Isn't Wendy Sue photogenic?
Just because we don’t want the fun and excitement to end, we’re making a special offer for the next 36 hours — order your copy now (guess what? It’s even in stock…so hurry!) and get free shipping! Make sure you place your order by 5:00 p.m. (EST) tomorrow (Nov. 6) to take advantage.
Better yet? I’ve got THREE copies sitting right here, ready to ship out to three lucky (and random!) winners. Let me know by Saturday, Nov. 7 at midnight (MST) what your favorite card making occasion is and I’ll select three of you to receive your very own copy.
Who knows, maybe your new favorite occasion will be National Chocolate Cupcake Day, or even Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Hoping you find ANY excuse to make and send a handmade card,
Jennifer
P.S. Can you guess what the giveaway will be for tomorrow’s Freebie Friday post?

My favorite cards to make are “thinking of you” cards. I can send them at anytime, and don’t have to wait around for a birthday or holiday. My card can be a total surprise in the mail. Who doesn’t love a nice surprise?

I would have to say Birthday Cards are my favorite cards to make. Since I am older than water, I like to see each birthday arrive. Birthdays are special and should mean so much to each and every one of us. Would love to win this book and have all the different cards, Button Day is an exciting day also just because it is so different. Thanks for this chance to win.

Oh I would love to see this book-how fun. Card making is a great creative outlet. My favorite would probably be birthdays-such a fun day for one person to let them know how great they are to you.
-
My favorite type of card to make is “Thinking of YOu” because I love to have the person’s face in my mind as I make it. Then there’s the birthday cards of course. I make the most of those because I love getting birthday cards and I want everyone else to feel special too! But really, I love making all cards. I’ve become a card addict!!
-
I love to make “Congratulations”-type cards, esp. for weddings. There’s nothing like giving a personal, individualized-for-the-special-occasion card that let’s the recipient feel like s/he is special enough that no other card would be adequate enough … extra time, energy and love needed to go into making their day extra special.
How great is it that Wendy Sue Anderson is the gal that initiated the card-a-day idea! I lived in her neighborhood for a little while and she really is a kind, thoughtful person who really does give cards for every occasion – even “Hey, sorry you’re moving … but good luck on your next adventure.” She’s great. -
I love to make birthday cards! I think this is a great idea for a book and would love to win for the daily inspiration!
-
I seem to make mainly ‘thinking of you’ type cards. but my fave ones are the ones where I actually know who I am making the card for so I can think about that person while I create. brings me closer to them.
I think I need to make more cards for ‘talk like a pirate’ day! that is one of my fam’s fave days to celebrate! grins!
-
I love “just because” cards because they are unexpected and always make someone smile! (And also because you can use just about anything to create them!)

-
I don’t think I’ll be original in my choice but I love Valentine’s cards. I live the color combos, red, black, or pink, and I am a sucker for heart-shaped everything. I guess I’m just that much of a romantic.

-
I love making Christmas cards…and I’d LOVE to have that book for ideas for all the other days.

I like making I LOVE YOU and THINKING OF YOU cards. It gives me a chance to make something just for one particular person and tailor it to their color preferences. Of course, I like making “love notes” for my boyfriend… I ask him what color and then challenge myself to do something in the color scheme he gives me. And he always wants glitter!
-
My favorite card making occasion is “thinking of you” type cards. I will be thinking about someone that God has placed on my heart and then I will usually go and find a card I have completed and send it to them.
