Black Freebie Friday – Gift Trios

 Black Freebie Friday Gift Trios

P. Kelly Smith

Welcome to Black Freebie Friday! I hope everyone had a fabulous feast yesterday and was able to find a few minutes to reflect and “give thanks”.

While many of you will be dressing your Christmas tree today, I’m sure there’s just as many who will be starting their day a tad bit earlier than the rest of us. For those of you who are braving the crowds for all the Black Friday sales, I tip my hat to you. I am most definitely NOT a morning person. Unless you refer to “morning” as 12 a.m.!

Since I know many of you get your creative mojo in wee hours of the night, I know how precious those few uninterrupted hours can be. And since we’re entering the busiest time of the year, we all need to make the most of our creative time. After all, Christmas is less than a month away!

Which is why I love our Gift Trios feature in our November/December issue. If you’re looking to save time and supplies, why not make a matching tag, bag and card? Incorporate the same product into three different projects and take the guesswork out of the equation.

Paper Crafts Pro Wendy Johnson's Poinsettia Trio appeared in our November/December issue.

I love how perfectly these projects coordinate with one another. Who wouldn’t love to receive these gems for the holidays? If you’d like to download the pattern for Wendy’s cute box, click HERE.

In honor of Black Friday, I’ve got two prize packages that you don’t even have to leave the house to fight over! Leave a comment telling me if you plan on shopping ’til you drop today or taking it easy and enjoying the long weekend. I’ll pick two winners to receive a copy of Holidays Cards & More, Vol. 4 and Making Memories Flowers stamp set. (I can totally see these stamps used as snowflakes, wreaths, poinsettia flowers, etc!) All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Sunday, Nov. 29.

No shopping for me today. I decided to visit my family instead, after all it is too crazy out there!!!

  2. Brenda L. says:

I defintely never go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Usually the good bargins are sold the 1s minute anyway. I am doing some Christmas crafting tonight and reading some of my favorite blogs tonight. Of course, I am reading Paper Crafts blog. I read it everyday that it is posted. Thanks for all of the ideas you have shared with us all year.

  3. monica ward says:

My first post…will not be shopping today, not brave enough to face the crowds.

  4. Charlene says:

I wasn’t planning on shopping too much. I just went to a couple of small stores with my sister. She’s big into “couponing” and she’s pretty good at it! I then had to brave it and go to JC Penney to pay my bill! ;) Luckily I got in and got out safely. Hope I win, I could sure use some inspiration for my holiday cards this year!!!

  5. Morgaine says:

The only shopping I did on Black Friday was what scrapbook supplies I purchased at a Black Friday all-day crop. :) It was fun to stay indoors scrapbooking, while others were standing in lines all day!

  6. We celebrated Thanksgiving today, so no shopping for me. Perhaps tomorrow, but I have pretty much decided to cancel Christmas shopping this year. Too stressful! I am thinking about making wonderful gifts rather than trying to find something that fits my budget and cross my fingers, the recipient might like.

  7. Barbara M says:

Shopping online is for me today then I went to a 12 crop at the LSS and shopped there for more!! Never enough stuff! Will see family at leftover dinners all throught the weekend.

  8. marie-anne raeman says:

No shopping today, I am making christmas cards today with some friends ;-)

  9. Char- D says:

No way would I ever shop on this day! I am taking it easy and enjoying the long weekend.

  10. Kelly says:

Spent time doing some chores at mom’s house, getting her ready for the holidays. Good time with family. Did a little shopping later in the day and will do a little throughout the weekend. Thanks for the chance to win.

  11. Dwita says:

Yesterday, Friday the 27th, was a holiday in my country. And today, Saturday, off of everything, and tomorrow is Sunday. So we have 3 days holiday. My family and I stayed at home, enjoying each other. Yesterday we cooked a simple cake. This morning we cooked oxtail soup. And tomorrow we’ll cook a baked noodle, my fave. So obviously, I stay at home the whole weekend. It’s a precious moment I can have with the members of my family. Thanks for a chance to win. Happy weekend….

  12. jamie greene says:

I am spending my weekend shopping and putting up my christmas decorations and crafting with my kids! We will be making homemade ornaments this year.

  13. Lillian Child says:

I have been so wanting the holiday cards magazine, but just can’t justify being indulgent – but it is on my WISHLIST !! I’m more of an internet shopper – just don’t like crowds. So I did get some great deals on line and have officially made a start on my holiday shopping. Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  14. Isabel Z says:

I had hoped to stand in line at my local scrapbook store to purchase a Cricut Expression which has been on my wish list for a long time but my 11 year old son had emergency surgery on Friday morning. He tripped and fell at a friend’s house several days ago and it turns out he sheared the cartilege on his pinky. The surgeon was concerned that if he didn’t operate right away my son would lose all mobility in that finger. The shopping trip flew out of my mind as we waited for the surgery to be over and now we have been keeping him comfortable.

  15. Nola Taylor says:

I did go out on Black Friday, a friend had a coupon for slippers at Costco. It had opened at 9am, we did not get there untill about 10:30, so it was not bad. Got the slippers (and some other stuff – of course!) and then headed home. I have a desk full of cards in the works, leftovers for dinner, had a good day. We saw crowds at Electronic store, and Target, but passed them up. Thanks for the chance to win.

  16. Kim Marie says:

I’m spending time with my girl, home from college….no shopping! Just hanging out, coloring her hair, watching movies and an occasional trip to friends!

  17. Spardha says:

shoppin till droppin has already been done!.. so me just gonna chill now! ;)

  18. Kristina says:

What a fun giveaway. I hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

  19. Patty W says:

We stayed home and watched football ALL day !

  20. Josiane says:

I took it easy since I was not feeling that well the last day or two and since there weren’t that many items that we needed. So I slept in and ran errands in the afternoon.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  21. cjs says:

We visited with family (locally) and then enjoyed more family time at home.

  22. Laura Stewart says:

I totally missed all the shopping – been sick……….. what a bummer

  23. Doris says:

I like to spent time with family at home rather than go shopping:)

  24. Jayne B. says:

One quickie shopping trip @ 9 yesterday morning for 4 gifts.
The rest of my spare time will go to creating my holiday cards………..which I *should*have started long before now!

  25. Debbie says:

Not shopping or taking it easy. We throw a huge Christmas party for all our friends next weekend. It’s our gift to them so we’re baking and cooking ’til we can’t see straight ;- ) Friends come from up to 9 hours away just for the day!

  26. Helen F. says:

I decided a couple of years ago that I would no longer get up at 4AM to go shopping on Black Fridays! I do most of my shopping on line these days. Most of my gifts have to be mailed out of state anyway, so this eliminates the P.O. AND mall trips. I like to take the weekend to decorate the house for Christmas.

  27. Andrea says:

I actually shopped on Friday night and was so glad that I did . . .no crowds and I got to come across a happy accident for my dh and my dds!!

  28. Pat Knowlton says:

I have never been a Black Friday shopper and this year was no exception. I guess I got the aversion to it when on one occasion I had to return something to the store on December 26th… the crowds and the chaos just about did me in! So Black Friday, unh uh… nope. I’ll be happily at home making some Christmas cards. Thanks for the chance to win one of my favorite publications.

    Patty

  29. Regan Tomlin says:

Absolutely shopping! I stay Thanksgiving night with my mom and sister and we get up at 4:30 am and literally shop till we drop! I got 90% of my shopping done that day!!!! I wouldn’t have it any other way :) It is absolutely the start of the holiday season for me :)

  30. Tanya says:

I spent Friday out shopping with the family! Then we took in the local parade of lights and took the kids to see Santa Claus!

  31. Carol Metully says:

My DD and I went shopping at 4:30 a.m. We started this tradition last year and have so much fun. Her girls sleep in and her hubby wouldn’t dream of shopping at that hour either. So off we go!! Back home by 7:15 a.m. and were happy….but tired!! Great giveaway…I love those stamps!!

  32. Desiree says:

A little bit of both, but mostly relaxing.

  33. Elaine says:

Girl I’m with you…takin it eas!! I did venture out this evening but there were no lines, no back-ups and it was a breeze! :)

  34. ivy says:

i went with 2 other moms to black friday at target. i don’t remember when the last time i went but it was fun to just get out! besides, my 2 little boys and hubby would still be asleep!

  35. KindredEsprit says:

Love that pointsettia trio! What a lovely coordinated combo! I didn’t take in any sales this year. Even here in Canada, we do get some of the same sales at the US stores. Next year I’m thinking of planning to visit friends for Thanksgiving and would then partake in some of the black Friday shopping…but probably none of that midnight or 4 am stuff! *lol* And today is the Grey Cup final (Canadian Football Leage final), so I’ll enjoy the afternoon munching and hanging with friends. =)

  36. Mary A says:

I did a little shopping, but I have yet to perfect the art of maximizing Black Friday. I must not be very good at figuring out where/what the best deals are — or I just cherish my sleep too much! ;)

  37. whatspeaks2myheart says:

I stayed in except to go to the PO to mail a swap and to get lunch. DH was off from work and he did a bit of Black Friday online shopping for me and it was a huge help! I am NOT a morning person and NOT a crowd person. I’ll go out the next weekend or two and have a bit of shopping done so I’m just a bit behind. This was fun to read. Thanks! Paula

  38. Michele K says:

I was traveling on Black Friday, but wouldn’t have been out in the masses anyway. I did shop on Saturday and found everything I wanted at great prices (mostly Cricut cartridges :)

  39. Melanie C says:

No shopping this year for me. I worked both Friday and Saturday.

  40. Kristen says:

I made TWO trips to Target Friday, but that was it. The rest of the weekend was spent at home relaxing and decorating.

  41. Janet Zeppa says:

I live in Canada so no Black Friday here but I actually did go out and get a lot of my shopping done.

  42. Linda E says:

Of course I braved the crowds of Black Friday and the first stop was Michael’s to get a new Cricut cartridge. (My husband won’t go near the stores on BF and I hate to see him pay full price on a gift for me. LOL!!) Next, it was on to Target, Macy’s and a host of other stores. I’d say I’m 75% done with my shopping. Bring on Cyber Monday!

  43. Dayna Johnson says:

I braved the Mall of America in Minneapolis on Black Friday and it was crazy! I did get some things checked off of my Christmas list though.

  44. cards4ever says:

Me and my mom left the house around 6:45 A.M. and came home at 10:00 A.M. It was a fun, productive day.

  45. Marla H says:

No shopping for me on Black Friday because I am going to spend the day crafting and making cards!!!

  46. Cyndi says:

No shopping….lots of housework to catch up on….to prepare to deck the halls!
