I imagine many of you have seen various versions of the December Daily Album around the Internet. The basic concept is to document a month in your life in a mini book format. Many artists choose December since it’s a month ripe with photo taking opportunities. Some of my favorite artists to check out are:
All of them are working on their own version of the December Daily Album. For the first time, I’ve decided to join them. Call me crazy, but I think I can keep up because I’m following the “Keep It Simple” rule.
I started with choosing a base for my album. I wanted something sturdy and small. After digging around a bit in my studio, I found this abandoned box of blank flash cards. Eureka!

With over a half a box full, I easily had enough for my 31 days of December. I punched holes in the corner of each card with my handy dandy Crop-A-Dile (love that it goes through so many layers at once). Next, I pulled out 4-5 coordinating patterned papers and a couple of solid papers.

Since I’m keeping it simple and really wanted to put together most of my album last weekend, I used a QuicKutz die for my numbers. I die cutted multiple copies of the numbers, then adhered them to white punched out circles. A larger circle punch provided the lime green mats for my numbers.

I cut one-inch strips of patterned paper and adhered one strip to each flash card – super quick and easy!

Finishing the cover was also fun and easy. I chose one of my patterned papers and added a simple bookplate frame with my title underneath. I couldn’t resist adding a little piece of polka dot ribbon.

I finished the first page yesterday – it documents my first purchase of the holiday season. I plan to print a small photo each day, adhere it to a plain black mat and pop it into the album. I’m really looking forward to see my album at the end of the month.

So, what are some of your daily traditions for this month? Online shopping? Baking? Caroling? Now is your chance to create a little album and preserve those precious memories. Tell me what traditions you honor in your household and I’ll pick one winner to take home Close To My Heart’s chipboard album, their Reminisce stamp set and some holiday papers. All comments must be received by midnight (MST) on Thursday, Dec. 3.

One lucky winner will take home this fun prize package!
Cheers!

One of my family’s most wonderful holiday traditions is from the land of my parents’ birth…Holland. Every season, we bake special Christmas treats, called olibollen (very similar to deepfried doughnuts) and appelflappen (apple slices dipped in dough and deepfried). They are dipped in icing sugar and are delicious for eating and sharing with friends.
-
One of my favourite Christmas traditions is the one that my husband and I have been doing for many years. We make our gift tags to each other have fun little quips and hints of the gift that is inside…such as “To: the Chef From: your Waitress and it may have a cookbook, or kitchen thing in the package. Silly but fun!

We always, as a family, put up and decorate the tree on Christmas eve while listening to Christmas music. Then we turn off all the lights except those on the tree and put on some 3D glasses that make images sparkle from all the lights (snowmen, angels, stars and snowflakes are the glasses we have) And of course we ooooohhh and aaaahhhh.
Fun!

What a great idea!! I love that you’re using flash cards!!
The one tradition that I’m doing is a modified version of elf on the shelf . . . so far my girls are LOVING it!! -
Some extra special baking and family get togethers. Simple Christmas’s are the best for me!
-
We don’t specific days for traditional things–except Thanksgiving is always when the tree, indoor and outdoor decorations go up! Other activities include sending out hand made Christmas cards, the “memorial” Christmas baking, (we remember family members who provided the recipes), singing/playing in the church choir’s Christmas cantata–our college age kids are also now involved either playing instruments or running the sound board! We always have homemade lasagna on Christmas eve, with the grandparent’s present followed by midnight church service.

What a great idea Kim! I love it! I have been thinking about doing one of these December Daily books, I think I just might now!

I love to do lots of things for the holiday, but some are… bake a cake or cookie for Jesus’ birthday, sing Christmas carols at the nursing home, and watch “The Christmas Story”(we love that movie)!
-
I loved your idea, also, using flash cards for your album and adding just a minimal amount of paper on them. This gives me a great idea for albums for any occassion. Good job!!

One of my traditions is to bake a batch of almond bread – don’t know if you know what that is in the U.S. It is actually a loaf made from egg whites, sugar a little flour, almonds and glace cherries. You bake it in a slow oven , let it cool overnight then slice very thinly and rebake the slices. It is very festive looking and I usually give away two thirds as little packages and keep about one third for my family. Thanks for a chance to win!
-
My most favorite holiday tradition is making ginger bread house with my kids. We always have so much fun.
-
how cute. I love that size, perfect and easy especially around this busy time of year
-
I tried the December Daily last year and failed!
I’m trying again and determined! One of my favorite traditions is wrapping 24 Christmas books. My children unwrap one each night in a countdown to Christmas. It is so much fun to unwrap a ‘new’ book each night and share so many wonderful Christmas stories. -
Cutting down our tree, lots of holiday cookies, and yes, a Christmas Journal patterned on Shimelle’s Journal Your Christmas. I’m on #4 and haven’t tired of it yet. I love the record I have of this special time each year.
-
My favorite tradition is to hang the advent calendar that my grandmother embroidered years ago. It has little rings to hang candy or cash from and each day my boys take turns removing the goodies. My family has had this calendar for over 40 years.

What a great album! Love the simplicity of it!
We always get and decorate our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving weekend. We typically open our Christmas gifts to each other the night before we leave (since we are always away from home at Christmas time). We sit around the Christmas tree and my husband reads the Christmas story. Then we open our stockings and gifts. It is a very “warm and cozy” time for us, with the lighted tree and the soft music. I LOVE Christmas! -
This album idea is so great! Thanks for the chance to win! Christmas (December) is a fabulous month, full of activities and traditions. For me, it’s about making gifts. I’ll sew, bake, crochet, paper craft (of course) and sing Carols.
-
My mother made stockings for every person in the family. One of our traditions was hanging them on her mantle(boy, did it ever get crowded!!) while listening to Christmas music and sipping hot chocolate. Then we three girls would stuff them with all of the little “stuff” that we had bought throughout the year!
-
No traditions really.
-
We have many traditions but some of our favorites are driving around looking at lights while we drink hot chocolate together! I love to bake sugar cookies with the kids and then let them decorate them. And of course we always create Christmas cards together for their teachers! Thanks! Jennifer
-
With the exception of last year I’ve made Spritz cookies for Christmas every year for 30 years. (I was moving last year and the cookie press was packed.) Well, I finally found the cookie press this week and the baking frenzy starts on Saturday!!! Don’t know if I’ll hit my high mark (about 100 dozen) but I’ve gotta make up for last year’s drought. Thanks for a great give-away!!
-
we usually bake and decorate sugar cookies. I’ve done that since I was a kiddo. And my kids love to do even my big kiddo at 20 does lol. I usually put my tree up on Thanksgiving weekend but this weekend my washing machine went kaput so we had to looking for a new one. I’ll be putting up my tree this weekend.
-
Every year I made my Mom’s aunt’s cookies which reminds me of when I was little when she came to town for Christmas she always brought with her.
-
forgot to say that I love that album it is fun, fast, and cute. I really like it.
-
Cool idea! I would not have thought to use those flash cards! I am going to see if I’ve got some stashed in the kids’ school drawer!! Thanks for the marvelous inspiration! Fast and fun! Our tradition- wait until it’s too late to get the favorite gift and then search high and low all over town until it’s found! lol Horrible, isn’t it?
-
Cute album! One of our cherish traditions is midnight Christmas eve church service. We are usually so tired but always make it to church.
