Welcome to Freebie Friday! Can you believe Christmas is only a week away? Yikes! My shopping list is still a mile long, but I’m slowly making a dent in it. For my immediate family, I try to buy five or six small gifts. Most of them are practical in nature, but I always try to throw in one sentimental one. Something that really pulls at the old heartstrings.
In addition to tangible gifts, I love giving away holiday treats. Nothing says Christmas like homemade fudge, peppermint bark or some gooey, flaky pastry. My mother makes the most amazing Candy Cane Coffee Cake. Perhaps you’ve seen or tasted one. You essentially braid fruit-filled pieces of dough into the shape of a candy cane. Here’s an actual image from my mom’s 30-year-old Betty Crocker Christmas Cookbook:
Candy Cane Coffee Cake
Looks delicious, right? My mom’s been giving these cakes away as neighbor gifts for as long as I can remember. The best part…they keep for several days, so you can nibble away at them piece by piece and not feel like you’re overdoing it. Because let’s face it, even though my mom would sometimes make 10 at a time, there would always be one or two that didn’t quite pass inspection, and therefore never left our kitchen. Waste not, want not!
I just happen to have three paper collections from Bo Bunny that remind me of the hearth and home. I’d love to hear your favorite holiday treat/sweet/snack. Feel free to even share a recipe! Definitely fudge. Last year my hubby made the most delicious fudge. Hmmmm, I think I need to speak to him about making some this year.

My favorite holiday treat is microwave fudge. My mom made this quick and easy recipe for all her work gatherings, and I too have taken it to all our church socials. The recipe is always requested.

My favorite treat, and my biggest holiday splurge, is Williams Sonoma’s Peppermint Bark. The best ever.

This year I’ve also been baking up a storm to give to friends, teachers, and my husband’s coworkers. I love to bake sugar cookies iced with creamcheese frosting and then of course tiny brownie bites….. the list goes on. Any sweet is fun to create

My favorite Christmas snacks are Christmas cookies!! I love to bake and decorate them, my daughter is a great helper too.
In Peru, I used to eat “Panetonne”, it is a tradition there, here not so much, but I am always happy when I find it in some grocery stores!!Thanks for the chance to win!

One of my childhood memories is of my aunt and me going to the store to purchase the candied fruit for the fruit cakes she would bake as gifts. I know about the joke where there is only one in existence and keeps being re-gifted but I really liked the ones she used to make. They were moist, delicious and full of the candied fruit. Your candy cane coffee cake has inspired me to make one and hopefully create a holiday tradition. I don’t normally bake but the cake in the photo looks so delicious. My hubby happens to love coffee cake. This would be a wonderful gift for him. Thanks for the idea.

My favorites are frosted sugar cookies, and pumpkin pie, but the family’s favorite is the little tin each of them find under the tree with peanut-butter balls in it! I’ve been making them since my son was 2 in 1972! ~Bev~

My fave holiday treat is definitely FUDGE! My mom used to make it every year to give away to neighbors and friends…at least what little sticky fingers didn’t nip! =D

I have a favorite holiday drink concoction: 1 package of Land O Lakes white chocolate coca mix, add hot water, add an ounce or two of DiSaronno liquer – it’s absolutely perfectly yummy!

Homemade treats are the best! We look forward to a friend’s English toffee each year. This year we will give roasted mixed nuts – a savory and a sweet.

Definitely poppy seed bread. Not sure how or why it became a Christmas treat, but it is my favorite!

Our favorite treat is cut-out sugar cookies that we decorate. I always made them with my mom. She had “her” cookies to decorate (gorgeous and perfect) and “ours” (perfect for child hands). I make cookies each year with my kids. Initally they could only master the sprinkles but now they both can frost and apply sprinkles. My oldest wants to use the piping bag next year.

My Grandma used to make a lot of Christmas goodies – I loved her fudge the most. However, I just came across a recipe for Coconut Bon Bons, and it really reminded me of her! Even tho my husband told me not to, I’m making them! He doesn’t like coconut – hmmm, means more for me!

I just spent the day in my kitchen making sugar cookies, chocolate chip dream bars and mint chocolate covered pretzels. It’s a family tradition to spend a day in the kitchen decorating and baking. We all have a great time. Then we wrap up the goodies and deliver them to our neighbors and friends. The mint chocolate covered pretzels are new this year. We usually make a type of peppermint bark, but I like to jazz things up now and then by adding something different. I really like these pretzels. In fact, I had to make another batch because I ate the first!! Naughty me:)
