CHA Winter 2010: Trends by the Dozen

Cath Edvalson

As creative editor for Paper Crafts magazine, it’s my job to make sure that the projects we show are fresh, fun and trendy. So, when I walk the showroom floor at CHA, I’m always on the lookout for what inspires, what’s showing up multiple times in multiple places and what’s getting a lot of buzz as I bop from booth to booth.

On the plane ride home, as I started to process all I had seen, I wrote down the common themes that had risen to the top of my experience. Here are they are—my CHA Winter 2010 Trends by the Dozen:

1. Doilies & Lace. Intricate lovelies straight from Grandma’s parlor:

  1. Buttons, buttons, buttons. Vintage looking, clear, you name it. I love them all.
    Thanks for asking.

  2. Kay says:

The buttons are speaking to me. They are saying “bring me home with you!” They would be very happy because there are 1,000 button brothers and sisters waiting to play with them!

  3. Darlene says:

I like the doilies and lace, the vintage ephemera, music and textured card stock. I am really into anything vintage, and these all play a big part of my card making, scrapbooking.

  4. J. J. Clark says:

I love the music, canvas, buttons, and I want to start sewing just haven’t gotten around to it yet!

  5. I love the vintage ephemera, doilies, and music themed stuff. And I love the buttons and sewing theme, too! Actually, I pretty much love them all, well, except for the peace signs! Guess I’m too old-fashioned for those. Thanks for the giveaway!

  6. Peggy Allen says:

The buttons and sewing are two of my favorite trends. Blessings.

  7. I love the lace, sewing, vintage and buttons! Fabulous! I think my favourite is vintage.

  8. Brenda Lubrant says:

Music speaks to me. I have a lot of original sheet music I find at vintage book stores and use it for cards and altered art.

  9. Pamela Palm says:

Wow! So many great products but I ahve to say I’ve had more interest in sewing again so I’m interested in the sewing stuff plus the music since I’ve always found music a neat subject to work with.

  10. I love all the sewing-related items I’ve seen from CHA and everything canvas. I’ve just begun sewing again and am looking for ways to incorporate stamping with altered clothing, jewelry, and home decor. So many good ideas! Anne, yourmainestamper

  11. Shannon L. says:

Sewing, for sure! I love sewing and I love paper crafting; to combine the two is heaven!

  12. ~amy~ says:

oh my…everything is delish…especially the buttons!

  13. Beth W says:

I am torn by this one-since I already have plenty of buttons (but I’m getting the pictured ones) I’m going with the doilies. I’ve been intrigued by them for a while now and can’t wait to see how other people use them.

  14. Anita T says:

i LOVE the texture cardstock!! i think it adds so much dimension to the project. i got a chance to play with the Cosmo Cricket cardstock. it was so much fun watching the texture appear!

Texture! I am in love with all my embossing folders, and when I can combine that with sandable Core-dinations it is a match made in heaven! I am also crazy about buttons!

  17. Lauri Buck says:

With a degree in Music Ed and 2 boys who participate in marching bands and other musical endevors, I would have to say music is my favorite.

    Thanks a lot.

  21. Diane S. says:

The textured cardstock is awesome!! But all the trends look fabulous!

  22. I’ve always been a big fan of texture, and canvas ups the ante. I’ve used swatches of burlap on my scrapbook pages and cards in the past and love the look. I’m also a fan of the clear buttons, which remind me of door knobs on an old Victorian house. As for opaque enamel embellishments, I say, “shine on!” :-)

I absolutely love using buttons on EVERYTHING!!!!

  24. Jen Madsen says:

I am a sucker for music backgrounds! It’s my new thing.

  25. I think that the Music stuff speaks to me the most. . .I can’t wait to get my hands on the Technique Tuesday Sheet Music Stamp that you’ve shown! : ) It’s awesome. I think I’m mostly drawn to the music stuff because it’s so universal. . .I would be able to use it on almost anything -and that’s pretty exciting! : )

  26. StampinCathy says:

Love it all! You’re not a true crafter if you don’t want it ALL! I just love all Tim’s new goodies so far and the music looks really sweet too.

Trends, trends! Uhg, my pocketbook goes ouch! ;-) I am loving all things vintage and the cute buttons!

    Smiles,
    ~nance

  28. Mary Gillmarten says:

For me, the sewing stuff — I have to have it all. I have my great grandmother’s sewing machine, I still quilt — mostly hand work though… and so the canvas kinda, sorta goes with that right? Oh, and definitely buttons go with that! LOL!

  29. April says:

I can’t choose between the buttons and lace/doilies. Those buttons were gorgeous and I’ve always loved doilies. Those are my faves!

  30. debb says:

Buttons, buttons and more buttons. They are calling my name these days. Not too sure why, but I’m loving them! Probably because of the variations in color, shapes and sizes intrigues me. And because they’re so popular, they are easy to find now too.
