Groovin' with the Go-to Gals – Inspiration Journals

Groovin' with the Go to Gals Inspiration Journals

Kim Hughes

Attention all list makers! Are you like me and have a bazillion little notes left in every corner of the house? I vow to get that under control in 2010. One month down and I’m doing umm…okay with keeping up.

I find there to be a wealth of information here on the Paper Crafts Connection blog, don’t you? So, I decided to keep a special journal next to my computer, compiled of notes, design ideas and inspiration.

I found an old journal book that I had only used a couple of times (because those little notes never seemed to make it in there). I covered it with some fresh Three Bugs in A Rug paper, added a black paper strip to the spine and voila…a sweet place to leave my Paper Crafts Connection notes!

I chose to keep my cover simple. I didn’t want anything dimensional on it to distract me, and I decided on a fresh color palette to make me smile every time I pick it up.

The inside page is a pocket, just in case I do reach for some scrap paper to write something on. These little notes can slip inside and still be where they should be, until they make it into the journal.

The editors and Go-to Gals shared what they were looking forward to in 2010 in this post, so I wrote a few extras in my journal.

I was inspired by a card on Melanie Douthit’s blog, so I created two sketches based on her design and made note of a fun color combo to use in the future.

Inspired by Brandy’s Happy Bird Day post, I jotted down some fun ideas to keep in mind when I create.

And I wrote a friendly reminder to myself to create something FUN based on the new Card Creations: Start to Finish special issue!

If you don’t have a journal handy, try making a cover for a notepad. Or bind a book with different colored papers. Punch a hole in note papers and tie a ribbon through them all. The point is to keep all of your notes together and to find inspiration here.

Beautiful creations, challenges, prizes…what else could you ask for? It’s all here, and I make a point to stop by every day. I hope you do as well.

Happy Blogiversary, Paper Crafts!

  4. Julia says:

OK. I’m finally doing it. I started a notebook that contains all the quotes and greetings that I’ve jotted down on a gazillion scraps of paper. I’ve divided the book into sections such as birthday, sympathy, humorous, etc. That you so much for the inspiration. Now whenever I need that perfect saying I just go to my book.

  5. Jeni says:

This blog is full of inspiration! The different styles of cards that are posted on a regular basis are my favorite. I love breaking out of the box & trying something new.

I love that you have covered your journal!!! I have done that every year for my farm and garden journal, where we keep our notes and related entries for our planting of our gardens, flowers etc…I can’t wait now to m cover my new journal for the farm this year-you have definitely inspired me to get my new journal done-and then to make one for my crafting ideas too!!

  7. Pat S. says:

One way this blog inspires me is with ways to keep myself motivated…like with a journal like the one you describe. Writing in a journal like that would make me think about card making, at least one time a day, even if every thing else is crashing down around me!

  8. Charmaine says:

I was actually given an awesome journal for Christmas that I am using to jot down ideas as I peruse different blogs. I love all the great ideas that you bring to us everyday.

    BTW…I LOVE your handwriting!

  15. Laura says:

I appreciate all the great tips (like how to organize or inventory supplies), inspiration (all the great cards), challenges, and giveaways. It’s fun, polished, and professional.

I have a hard time keeping all those “notes” in one place, too. I have a pretty little notebook I keep on my desk, but it’s a challenge. I’m also trying out a couple of digital solutions. I’ve begun to email challenges to myself (as I usually see them in Google Reader), noting the deadline in the subject line. I also love keeping bookmarks to inspirational projects and cards on a website called vi.sualize.us (http://vi.sualize.us/) since it allows you to save a thumbnail image and the URL where you found it.

  16. Jennifer says:

This is such a great idea! This blog is filled with so many great ideas, and to put everything down in a beautiful notebook is the perfect spot for inspiration instead of spending an hour going through the blog posts trying to find the one to inspire!

  17. Paige says:

I love the samples for inspiration! I look for design, color combinations, interesting details and new ways to use embellishments. Thanks for all the inspiration!

    Paige

  20. Elise says:

I was really inspired by the notebook that you made! It was so cute and it would definitely help me organize my thoughts and ideas! And I like that you made sketches of card ideas! I might decorate a notebook and devote it completely to sketches! Thanks for your good ideas!

  21. Sally says:

I love the ideas, tips and vision. This blog keeps me in the know about trends and what is next. I appreciate all the inspiration! I am a collector of notes and paper. I even tried the notebook idea, but I ended up with several notebooks tucked everywhere. I hope to tackle the problem one day.

  22. Cynthia B. says:

Gosh, what doesn’t inspire me on this blog??!

  24. Mindy says:

I love the idea of an inspiration journal! I covered a comp book to keep my daily and weekly lists in for 2010, but love the idea of a central place for all the design inspirations and quick thoughts I have about crafting! I will be making one of these this week! :)

I started one with a three ring binder that I also include sketches that I have printed from the computer from the many different blogs and challenges on the internet. I also have room to jot notes and ideas. Now I just need more time in my day to try some of the ideas and sketches that I’m putting into my binder / journal…..”sigh”.
