Groovin' with the Go-to Gals – Over The Top Inspiration

Groovin' with the Go to Gals Over The Top Inspiration

Kim Kesti

If you’re lucky enough to already own a copy of the new Paper Crafts Go-to Sketches, then you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say “over the top inspiration”. I was totally “wowed” just by looking at the gorgeous cover!

Well, that’s nothing compared to my delight in every single page of this very special issue. Gasp, grin and giggle pretty much describe my reaction. Then, it was off to my scrap room to act on all that inspiration.

Not only are sketches fun and easy to use, they are also super versatile. Let me show you. First, I picked out this simple sketch (I love the scallops).

I have a sister-in-law who recently had a baby, so I wanted to make a small gift bag. I thought this sketch would be perfect for a baby theme. Since I had a specific size to work with, I chose to paint a scalloped square directly on my patterned paper. Then, I simply added a cardstock strip, flower and stickers. I love how it turned out.

Of course, sketches are perfect for cards, too. I’m feeling the love for the baby stuff now, so I continue on and made a baby card. This time I turned the sketch upside down for a little different look.

I freehand cut my scallops and added a little paint swoosh here and there. A ribbon tie and a few small accents are all I needed to finish this little cutie.

Why not round it out by making a little tag, too? I love having a few tags in my stash to tuck into small gifts.

I kept pretty true to the sketch by making my tag a square; then, I used a scalloped square punch, two little pieces of ribbon and an epoxy for my sentiment. This was super fast and easy to create!

Now, I know you really want a chance to win a copy of this new special issue – am I right? All you have to do is leave me a comment and tell me about the last time you paper crafted a NON-card project. What did you create? Scrapbook pages, home décor, a gift bag?  You have until midnight (MDT) on Thursday, April 8 to leave a comment and be entered to win one of three copies!

Happy Sketch Days!

The last couple of days I have made 2 altered picture frames. My friend had a baby in February and she has a farm themed nursery. I used farm themed patterned paper and embellies and added her daughters name. The second one I used papers and embellies from the “Dear Lizzy” line.

  9. sue says:

I made some decorated paper wraps to go around Reese’s eggs for the kids’ teachers for Easter. They had stamped bunnies spritzed with glimmer mist and real pom puff tails.

  10. The last non card paper craft I made was a cute little purse gift bag. It was just big enough to hold a gift card for a friend with a purse “addiction.” I love making cards, but every once in a while it is fun to make something else!

Well its been a long time since I’ve paper crafted a NON-card project. The last thing I made was a set of Christmas tags! Thanks for the chance to win!

  13. Hmm, well it has been a while since I’ve done a non-card project. The last thing I did was Valentine treat boxes for my daughter’s daycare class (28 of them).

  14. Diane S. says:

The last thing I did with paper was a scrapbook for my mom.

  15. Carla G. says:

I made a few mini projects for Easter goodies (non-edible) for my friends. My favorite were altered Dollar Spot list pads from Target. I made covers and embellished them with Martha’s new fringe scissors. I can’t wait to make a few more.

  16. Ann in PA says:

I made lollipop holders for the chocolate covered Oreo pops I made for Easter.

  17. Jennifer C says:

Over the weekend I “scrapped” signs for the sunday school rooms at church – with my handy dandy cricut and cricut design studio, I welded the titles and teachers’ names in shaddow and then cut the regular letters from some fun and funky paper. Now there are bright signs welcoming the kids into their rooms

  18. Paige says:

My last non-card item was a 12×12 wall hanging in beautiful soft colors with a big FAMILY printed across the top. Lots of swirls, flowers, stamping, bling and hardware. Its going up in my front hall as soon as I get my picture printed.

  19. Carol Metully says:

Besides making cards, which is like instant gratification because they can be make quickle (sometimes anyway), I also scrapbook. I really love to make albums so my granddaughters will know or remember people in their family.

  20. Samantha S says:

Today I worked on and off of a lay out of my 2 year old.

  21. Carolyn King says:

GREAT job with this sketch. LOVE how you used it on three different projects!
My last non card project was a scrapbook page that I just finished 10 minutes ago :)

  22. tgmagazine says:

These are so cute – they’re all different, yet they all coordinate. Heather

  23. Lauri Buck says:

I’m really a scrapbooker who also makes cards, so I do more scrapbooking than card making. But last night I attended a SU club and made a 2 page LO combining snow & Christmas (we had a blizzard this past Christmas Eve), and I made a gift holder from 2 top note die cuts. I also made a card last night.

  24. Sara B says:

My last non-card project was creating a sample gift tag package for an Etsy store owner. I am currently offering this, since I am fairly new to Etsy and thought it would a nice way to get some of my gift tags out there. I used some features of her store’s banner and created some lovely gift tags for her. I hope she likes them. Thanks for a chance to win!

    Blessings!

  25. Laura says:

My last non-card project was a scrapbook page. I actually worked on one this morning! :)

  26. Teela says:

I love to make cards and sent them to people that need to be encouraged, but this past weekend, I paper crafted a booklet for a friend that needed advice on how to gift a Tea Party! What fun it was and I hope it will help her organize her church ladies and have alot of fun with them.

  27. Becky K says:

Hmm, I don’t know if this really counts as papercrafting, but I used a papercrafting tool (my Silhouette) to glass etch animals on coasters! Otherwise, I suppose the last thing was a scrapbook… several, several years ago.

  28. what a cute project! :)
I made several scrapbook pages about a month ago, and am working on a little altered box right now. I do tend to make cards most often though….

  29. jen shears says:

I made 3 valentine banners to decorate my home & give away!! :D

  30. Naz says:

    Great project.
I altered a cute pail into a movie themed birthday gift.

  31. Kristin Burge says:

Last night I scrapbooked a page of my 3 year old and all the things he is doing now – my favorite kind of scrapbook page! It is so easy to forget those little things and they change so fast!

  32. No Food Dietician says:

Last project I made was a bag.. but like every bag I’ve made, it ended up falling apart after a while. Too much movement I think, so the glue wears off eventually. That’s why I like to stick to cards :)

  33. Emily Lurker says:

I made one was for Halloween. It was a sign that said boo! and was displayed on the fireplace.

  34. Pamela Palm says:

Loved your little cards and gift bag. My last non-card item and this is difficult because I am definitely into making cards, was a bathtub baby book for my niece’s baby shower! It really turned out well and she loved it.
I started with a bathtub shaped board book and covered it with decorative papers, a title with the baby’s name, frames for photos and stamping to embellish it all.

  35. Christine N says:

I don’t get to non-card projects often enough. The last time I made something it was a heart box just for me. I sprayed old book paper with glimmer mist, tore the pages and modpodged it onto the box. Lot’s and lot’s of embellies with a big bow tied around it. I cut the word “believe” and put it on it and I am putting the things I believe I can do in it! The #1 thing was to be published in your mag! Now I just need to submit something!!! Scary!!!

    Blessings,
    Christine

  36. Kelly G says:

Last non-card thing I made was a gift bag to present the note holder that I made

  37. Jody M says:

Last non-card thing was a framed saying for my friends birthday. It turned out pretty good.

  38. Dana H says:

The last non-card thing I did was bag toppers for Easter bags full of candy. It was the first time I did it. It was a lot of fun and turned out well.

  39. Holly H says:

My last non-card project was a small scrapbook with only pictures of my daughter with her daughter. They are sooo cute!!

  40. Chloe Schmitt says:

I made a couple of tags last night and before that I made two little Easter baskets from patterned paper. I love these projects here too!!

  41. rebecca keppel says:

    Kim–LOVE your cards!

Yesterday I completed 2 scrapbook layouts.

  42. Michelle A. says:

I normally am making cards but I venture off into scrapbook pages too! So a scrapbook page it is, but it has been awhile…the cards are easier for me :)

  43. My last non-card project was a Monogram frame I made for a friend. I “upholstered” the die cut letter with fabric remnants that I sewed together. It was a fun project! Thanks for the chance to win!

  44. Brenda F-O says:

I made a 3″x3″ box w/ a drawer to hold paperclips that I blinged and binder clips that I covered with paper.
