Welcome to Magazine Monday! Today we’re kicking off our exciting Go-to Sketches Week here, on Moxie Fab World and each of our Paper Crafts Go-to Gals’ blogs.
All week long we’ll be taking you inside the pages of our new special issue Go-to Sketches. We started with 66 sketches and then let our designers go to work in creating 282 unique projects. Who knew one sketch could have so many possibilities? We were blown away by all of the different interpretations and couldn’t wait to share them with all of you!
Today we’re going behind the scenes of one very “colorful” photo shoot. By now you probably know we work 6-7 months in advance. Hence our current call for submissions for Holiday Cards & More, Volume 5. So because of this strict production schedule, it was last September that we were concepting Go-to Sketches. Fortunately, our yearly editorial board meeting just happened to fall around this time. With our six Go-to Gals flying in for the meeting, we decided to make the most of our 48 hours together and threw in a photo shoot.

I think this is my favorite picture from the photo shoot.

But I love Kim Kesti's laugh in this one!

And the cute playfulness of this one! I think they like each other!
We knew Matt had an all-white theme planned for this issue, so we told each Go-to Gal to come dressed in a bright, vibrant color. The editors were removed from this conversation, but apparently there was much discussion between them about who would wear what color, how they would wear their hair and just how big they should go with the accessories. (From Jessica’s post last week, we know her philosophy on this topic: the bigger, the better!)
To see more individual and group outtakes, make sure you visit each of the gals’ blogs. They’re also talking about the photo shoot from their own perspective, so I’m sure it will be interesting and full of juicy details! (Hopefully they’ll be kind to us editors…especially since we were all in the background saying things like, ”Smile, Kim! Turn your head, Teri! Stop giggling, Maren!”
Wanna win a copy of Go-to Sketches? Go visit their blogs and then come back here to tell me your favorite juicy detail revealed. From your comments, I’ll pick three people to win a copy of Go-to Sketches! All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Tuesday, April 6. And check back with us tomorrow when Cath announces the Go-to Gals & Friends Blog Hop. There will be lots of inspiration and lots of chances to win more copies of Go-to Sketches!
Happy Monday!

It’s great how much fun you all are having! Love the colors, too!
My favorite juicy detail…that Kim picked her necklace first–and then her outfit! Now that’s the way to do it!..Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win this fabulous magazine…
I thought it was fun to read that Betsy says that Maren “cackles”. Now Maren does admit that she laughs a lot, and she laughs loud, but only a true friend could get away with saying she cackles!
Love that Kim K picked the necklace first then a shirt to match!
I giggled to read that Besty had gotten stuck with yellow because she was away from the computer when the color plan was hatched ~ yellow is SO not my favorite color! (But she sure carried it off well. Something about a sunny personality, I suspect.)
I just love these Gals!!
Each one writes about having too much fun, meeting/making friends for life, their cretions, their color choices, etc. I can relate to each of them about standin/sitting for photos. I laugh like Maren..all the time!
I’d love to be there (anywhere) when these gals get together…that would be a BLAST!
Sounds like they all had a BLAST!! I like Kim K’s story on how she first picked her necklace and then the shirt to match it! hehe That sounds like something I would do!! I can’t wait to see all the fab sketches in the magazine!!
I love the painted punch story on Teri’s blog. I love the idea that someone had to paint all that stuff white!
Okay, I’m loving all the personal accounts of the day. The best theme I see running through here is all of the laughter. In particular, Betsy’s comment about Maren’s “cackles” is the best! What a hoot these ladies must have had!
It sounds like they all had a fun time together!
I like the story of how the punch was painted white, and when Teri squeezed it, she was squirted with paint!
This whole thing reminds me of a Pajama Party. Everyone having fun. I loved Betsy’s comment on Maren “CACKLING” …Bet the time went fast. I am excited to purchase the issue and no doubt put it with my stack of “Collectible” idea stash. All of it sounded like Great Fun..
We can only pick ONE!? C’mon Kelly, reading everybody’s blog posts made me wish I could have been there with you all during the photo-shoot, and mostly makes me wish I could spend time time with all of you at least a couple of days a week. Well, okay, if I hafta narrow it down, then it’s Teri’s “cough … cough” comment. Made me think it was about something she didn’t exactly want to share, or that she was feeling a bit sarcastic about something.
I loved reading about the instant bonds and friendships that were made as the girls met eachother for the shoot. From the pictures, it looks as though they have been best friends all their lives!
Sounds like you girls had a hoot – and I’m right there with Jess – I take my friends with to pick my accessories and my outfits.
I like how Maren said she always was laughing. She sounds like me when I an i front of a camera.
love betsy’s shirt and color! i really don’t think she needs photoshop!
I thought it was funny how Jessica picked out what she would wear (pink from Gap) and her friends helped her pick a contrasting yellow necklace from Charming charlie’s–don’t know that store but has an interesting name!
Love that Jessica’s friends picked yellow to match with her pink shirt from the Gap!
I thought it was cute that Kim Kesti picked her necklace first! How fun!!
Looks like a great time! Love the colored tops, and how Kim H branched out to get some color in her wardrobe.

Juicy stuff: Maren is goofy (I love that!)
Teri had some paint pop out when she pressed the paper punch
It was the first time you all were together. I HAD NO IDEA that you don’t work together.
I like that Maren is a big time laugher. Is laugher a word?
I was amazed that you ladies don’t work in the same office. I don’t know how you can have such a cohesive magazine when you can’t be in the same office together…I consider that a juicy detail, because it’s been sort of a secret…
I’m with Kim Kesti – pick the accessories and find the clothes to match! Congratulations for another great issue. I just love sketches!
I love how Teri mentioned that when she squeezed the punch, white paint popped out & caught her by surprize. My luck it would have popped out & onto my shirt or pants.
Sounds like it was a fun day! I love that the nervous laughter really comes across as fun and excitement in the pictures. And those are some great outtakes.
I liked that Jess posted a not-so-great photo of herself in her blog. Shows some guts!
Besides the fact that everyone was a little shy or nervous, I love the fact that Teri oopsed the white paint. That would be my blunder for sure!
I read Jessica’s post first and after I stopped laughing at her witticisms, I was as awed as she was over the white set. Those pristine white stamping tools that Matt painted really show off gals and the cards.
My favorite comment in the blogs was from Maren: “I laugh when I am nervous…and when things are funny…and when there is too much attention on me…and not only do I laugh BUT I also laugh a bit louder than most.” I am the exact same way! And it is so neat to be able to bond with people that you have never actually met before! It sounds like a great moment that all of the girls will be able to share!
Looks like you all had such a great time with this and I loved the story about Maren’s laugh. I have a friend of mine that stands out when she laughs and what is great is she has a great attitude about it too!
I loved reading about how your ladies bonded and had a good time doing this photo shoots.
I could totally relate to Jessica’s dilemma of how to pose at the photoshoot. I raided my roommates wardrobe for a shoot a long, long time ago. And I had similar results too — more outtakes, though, than winners for me. Perhaps I should have taken my shirt to the store to find matching accessories.
At least the gals had fun during the shoot. And I’m sure it was nice to finally meet after working together for so long.
I loved reading all the stories, Jessica’s was pretty funny! Looks like everyone had fun and bonded on the set. Looks like a great issue – I gotta get mine soon!!!
I loved how Maren discussed her instant connection with the others and then about her loud laughter. When I am in a stressful situation I tend to laugh loudly too. Thanks Maren for helping me not feel like a fool.
It was so fun to know that Maren laughs that way because she was NERVOUS!!! yes, girls laugh silly when they don’t know what else to do, right? Hey, please let me have the GO-TO SKETCHES!! I NEED IT BADLY! pick me pick me! *jumping up and down*
I loved when Jessica said she was the Next Top Outtake Model–so funny! Ms. Witty is very aptly named! This issue looks great!
I loved reading everyone’s blog and to pick just one juicy detail is almost impossible. I loved that one of the gals has a laugh that is a cackle (you know who that is right?). I liked the story about being stuck with having to find a yellow shirt in September and of course picking your shirt to match your necklace. I think it is wonderful that we get to see some of the sketches ahead of time what talented people can do with them. I just wish I could have been there for the picture party. It sounds like it was so much fun and the out takes are confirmation of it. I think I could even come up with 282 reasons why I should win the Go-To-Sketches book.
I loved hearing how much fun they all had being a part of this! They all cracked me up- Betsy saying she was stuck with yellow since that was the only color left (even though she was kidding, made me giggle!) Thanks for letting us in on the fun!
I think that Betsy pulled off the yellow color Very well! I could never look as good as she does in yellow!
All the stories were so cute and fun to read. I love Jessica’s comment about this NOT being a “grown-up photo shoot” (they are the best kind), but yet she was trying to be the next “out-take model!!!!” I would love to have been a mouse in the corner during the shoot, especially with Maren’s laughing attacks. Sounds so fun! I really have to get a copy of this. Not only for the awesome sketches that are bound to be in there (I need help badly!) but for the stories! Thanks for the chance to win!
I thought it was very interesting that Kim Hughes has two different colored eyes. I found myself looking closer at the photos to see how her eyes looked! LOL I think that she looks fab in the pics and should not worry so much about her eyes.
I also thought that Betsy looked great, especially since she had been awake since 4am that day! Thanks for a chance to win a FAB mag, too!
I really identified with Maren’s ability to laugh very loudly…I too have a laugh that is very similar so I can imagine how the photoshoot went…
I thought it was funny when Betsy said that she got yellow because she was out of town when all the colors were being chosen…so “all the good colors were taken”.
But I think she looks great, esp. since she had to go shopping at the end of Sept. for a yellow top!
And I found it interesting that Kim H. has two different-colored eyes. I can’t even tell…ALL these gals are gorgeous, and the photo shoot sounds SO fun.
So wonderful how everyone got along like they were old friends. Looking forward to the issue!!
I like Kim – she chose a stunning necklace first then sought out the just-right green top! Yes!
It was fun to see that you’re all real people, not the paper crafting goddesses that I sometimes think you are. I’m excited to see what the rest of the week holds.
I really loved reading that Maren laughs when she’s nervous. I do that, so I can totally relate!
It’s so cute that Maren laughs when she’s nervous and cool that Kim revealed she has two different color eyes. I wouldn’t have noticed.
Teri talked the punch in her hand being covered in white paint and she squeezed it and the paint popped out taking her by surprise was cute.
Sounds like so much fun! I didn’t realize till reading Jessica’s blog that this was the go-to gals first time all meeting together in person. What a room full of talent!
