Don’t you just love when your favorite hobbies overlap? Maybe you’re a gardener who loves using fresh produce in your cooking. Or, you’re a photographer who creates her own props. Or, a paper crafter who loves to use fabric in her projects? Hey! That’s me.
If you haven’t already read Moxie Fab World, check out the Fun with Fabric Challenge that Cath has thrown down. It revolves around our PC 101 column in the May/June issue of Paper Crafts.
It’s also near and dear to my heart since I love fabric. I thought you might like a sneak peek at how I created one of the technique squares for the column.
Having experimented with die-cutting fabric in the past, I always struggled with getting the cuts accurate because my fabric was so soft and pliable. I have since figured out a way to make it stiff. Check out this great product by Plaid.

I simply trimmed my fabric into 3″ squares (to fit the die I wanted to use) and applied Stiffy fabric stiffener with a sponge brush. I let it dry for about an hour. Then, I used my die cut machine just as I would for paper.

I love how the fabric cuts so easily and yet remains a little flexible. I gently bent the little wings out on this bird die to give it a little extra dimension.

I think fabric adds such a cute homespun touch to my cards. Have you experimented with fabric yet? Be sure to check out Cath’s Fun with Fabric Challenge – the deadline to enter is midnight (MDT) on Monday, June 7.
I can’t wait to see what you create!

Gorgeous! That fabric is fabulous!!
hmm I never thought to do that. See made a wrinkle in my brain! lol Love it
Love how the fabric add that special touch. Your card is adorable.
I was thinking about fusible interfacing, but I’d much rather use this stuff than have to drag the ironing board out. Thanks for the tip!
super fun idea–never thought of using it to help with the die-cutting–now I have to go get some!
Sweet card, Kim…great tip with the Stiffy Stuff
!
Oh yeah…I’m with you. I’m a huge fan of fabric. The possibilities are endless when you start incorporating printed fabrics. I agree with Laura…thanks for the Stiffy tip.
Thank you for this AHA moment! I can’t wait to try the stiffener!
Very cute!! I’ll have to try that.
This is so cool! I was wondering how you cut the fabric! I’m gonna run out and get some of that Stiffy
I thought about interfacing too. But figured there was something out there that made the fabric stiff enough to die cut. Thx for the tip Kim!!
I JUST encountered this same issue last week. This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
You stinker, I just finished writing my tutorial for using stiffener and making flowers. I will just have to assume great red-headed minds thinking alike. I did make my stiffener out of Mod Podge and water, so a little different approach.
That may just be the cutest card I’ve seen in my entire life!!!! LOVE IT!
That card is too cute! I’ve seen fabric stiffener, but was too scared to try it- nice to see it works well
Wow – I would’ve never thought to do this…uh oh- I see lots of fabric in my future. LOL.
Super cute card!!
I LOVE this idea!
What an AWESOME idea! I actually have a big bottle of Stiffy that I’ve had for years. Had no idea what to do with it and was almost going to throw it out when I read your article. I am so excited now….and off to grab my fabric stash!
Great tip Kim! Love the card, those little birds are just TOO cute!
I have been looking for a product like this, wondering if it existed and what it was called, thank you! I can’t wait to try this.
thanks for the tip. i am going to go thru my stash and see if i can find some fabric to use on my cards. i will keep both tips and see what i have on hand. i used to wonderunder and ironed the fabric to my cards. this will be so much easier. it will be neater too because you won’t have frayed edges.
wonder under is found in the fabric dept and i also made a lot of sweatshirts and stuff.
