Welcome to Freebie Friday! As I mentioned on Monday, I just returned from a week-long Bahamas cruise with 19 of my family members. Whew…that’s a lot of crazy Smiths on one boat! My very generous Grandma Smith treated all of her kids (and their spouses), grandkids (and their spouses) and a great-grandchild to one memorable trip.
Since Gigi (her nickname) is still recovering from breast cancer, we knew this trip was going to be physically exhausting for her. Good thing we had some fun (and secret!) surprises in store for our family matriarch. These surprises not only put a smile on her face, but us too!
Day One: The Cruise Fairy leaves Gigi a copy of the movie Sleepless in Seattle. The card says, “For a timeless woman, here’s a timeless romance.” When Gigi asks four-year-old McCall who the Cruise Fairy is, McCall replies: “Gigi, the Cruise Fairy is a beautiful princess with wings who flies through the window and poops presents on your bed.”
Day Two: The Cruise Fairy leaves Gigi an apron with clocks and timepieces on it. The card says, “Timeless aprons never go out of style.”
Day Three: The Cruise Fairy leaves Gigi a bottle of her favorite perfume, Chanel No. 5. The card says, “For a timeless woman, here’s a timeless perfume.”
Day Four: We present Gigi with a 10-minute slideshow entitled, As Time Goes By. It was set to the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack. Her final gift is a watch with the inscription, “We love you more and more…as time goes by.”
Deciding to have fun with our “time” theme, we all dressed up as hippies one night. You can imagine the stares we got from our fellow passengers as we entered the dining room. Good thing we’ll never see these people again!

Little McCall had her hair braided in Nassau that day, so she fit right in!
Who knew peace signs were so trendy right now? Well, clearly our creative editor Cath Edvalson did! As I was looking through our July/August issue, I came across these iconic cards from her Moxie Fabs column. Groovy, baby!

Kim Kesti's Feeling Groovy Card (p. 24) is simply...well, groovy!

Teri Anderson's Peace-ful Day Card (p. 25) is simply perfect.

And Maren Benedict's Peace Out Card (p. 26) just makes me smile!
Are you lovin’ the peace signs right now? If so, Cath just happens to be hosting the Signs of Peace Challenge over on Moxie Fab World! Wanna play along? Simply design a card that incorporates a peace sign in an innovative way. All entries must be submitted by midnight (MDT) on Monday, August 16.
Here’s to feeling groovy!

Sounds like you had a spectacular trip. Love that picture. Can’t believe we actually dressed that way in the day. LOL. I’m GiGi too, wish I could afford to take my family on a cruise.
Hope you grandmother is blessed with good health.
I’m not very trendy. I’m into ribbon, buttons and butterflies. At least on or more turn up on everything I create. Thanks for the chance to win.
Hugs & Blessings

Love the peace sign trends, but my favorite right now is the banners. I love the look they add to a page or card.

Glad to hear that you and your family had a great time.
Right now into buttons – love buttons! -
What a wonderful story, it gives me goosebumps and reminds me of my grandmother, who always had a smile for everyone.
I’m really enjoying the vintage look. -
I am feeling groovy over those peace signs and I have never been big on peace signs!!
-
I absolutely love the pennants and banners- cute! And the great thing, easy to use for boys, girls, adults, pets, everyone!
-
I really like all of the butterflies that have been popular for a while – i have just bought 3 butterfly punches and can’t wait to use them! THis is different but i also like the wood grain letters that keep popping up in companies.

Being a child of the 60’s, I love ALL that is groovy, so this is great fun! I also love everything “nature”, shabby, vintage, altered and recycled, which is most important for today’s world. But presently, my favorite “trend” (if it can even be called that because it’s so much MORE than a trend) is anything and everything QUILLED! I’m amazed at the pleasure I’ve found at twirling strips of paper to fashion into darling little pieces of art to add to my card fronts and other projects! Just love it…
