Well, it’s almost that time again. That special time of the year, otherwise known as the season of giving, rejoicing and endless shopping sprees to the mall.
Speaking of the season of giving, I’ve got something to share with all of you…a sneak peek of Holiday Cards & More, Volume 5! On sale Sept. 14, this special issue has come a long way in the area of design.
Check out our festive new cover:

Besides updating the cover, we’ve also changed the inside pages. Due to the
overwhelming response we received to way Go-to Sketches was photographed, we decided to carry that all-white theme over to Holiday Cards & More. You’ll be blown away on how clean and easy these pages are to read and navigate, and how beautiful your future cards and projects will be.
Here’s a sneak peek of our clean and crisp Table of Contents:

Like what you see so far? Stay tuned for our upcoming Holiday Cards & More Week (Sept 13-17) both here and on Moxie Fab World. We’ll be spotlighting some of the 338 holiday-themed projects, sharing tips for mass producing cards, as well as giving away free issues and a sleigh full of fun prizes.
Matt,
The Lone Design Man
P.S. Kelly has me writing A LOT of blogs lately! My next one is on Sept. 9. From a design perspective, is there anything that you’re dying to know about your favorite magazine? Leave me a comment and I might just answer it!

I see the magazine will have gift ideas. Is it only the wrapping idea or are there also recipes for home-made cookies/candies or so?
What’s the font used for body copy in Paper Crafts?
Oh, I just can’t wait! The sneak peek is awesome! Can you talk about getting the lighting right? It is so hard to photograph cards at home, and I’m curious how you do it in the design studio. Thanks!
The sneak peak looks great! I agree with Kathy, I would love to see some tips on photographing cards.
I love the sneak peeks!! I am always in awe of the talent you guys include =)
I see it’s already been said, but I would love some tips on photographing cards at home, without all those wonderful gadgets that you have at the studio. The sneaks look great, too!
Delicious!!!!
Tell us more about how to use white space, and when too much is way too much, and how to choose a focal point and let it be the focal point and not get lost.
what’s the best way to get a clean photo of a card at home?
OMG I can just tell this issue is amazing!! So super duper excited!!
Love love love the colors of the cover!! I can’t wait to be able to buy this!!
My favorite time of year. Exciting possibilities.
I’m super curious about the selection process when people submit cards for publication. Not so much the actual process of selecting, but the setting. Does a group of people gather in a large meeting room with a giant screen and view submissions like a slide show? Do they vote? Just curious.
The Holiday Card issue is perhaps my favorite issue of the year – can’t wait!
I know it was already suggested, but I would also like tips on photographing cards at home. The sneak peek is great, can’t wait!
I would never have thought to ask a question about the home photography of a card, but that’s a great one. I’m curious what the answer will be. We love tips!
This could be a tricky question (giggle), but Matt, how do you like being the “Lone Design Man”? I have to ask because I work for a trucking company as the “Lone Female”. It’s great; they treat me like a princess.
Can’t wait to see this new issue. Already have the release date written on my calendar. And a very Merry Christmas to my fellow papercrafters!
Looks like there are lots of great Christmas ideas in the magazine.
I am interested to know how you decide which cards to group together on a page. Looks like an interesting process to me!
I agree with a few other above. What is the best lighting and such to photo your cards at home?
As a professional graphic designer myself, your posts are awesome! I love reading when you post. The changes look great, nice upgrade.
Since you mentioned the look of the magazines, I thought I’d mention that I like having more pictures, and bigger pictures of the cards, rather than more instructions. It’s usually easy enough to figure out how a card was made, I just need ideas for beautiful, innovative cards. I LOVE your magazines, they are better than all the other craft magazines. I just thought you’d want to know what (at least this one) readers like best. Thanks for all you do.
Ok… I’ll try and answer some of the questions here…
The body copy in Paper Crafts is Futura.
In my opinion, the best way to photograph your cards at home would be to create a seamless white background. Place white poster board or white foam core on either side, and shoot it with some natural light and light it with a lamp from the front. I know it’s tough to shoot from home, but if you prepare the right “light box” for shooting, practice makes perfect. Experiment with those ideas.
Being the “lone design man” in the PC Crew isn’t so bad. I have my “man cave (office)” to retreat to from time to time, and these ladies are honestly a pleasure to work with. My goal as the designer here is to make it bigger, better, and even more useful for all of you readers/fans.
Thanks for all your comments and input. We really love to hear what you all have to say and value your opinions. Thanks!
Matt
Looks like lots of great ideas! Love the cards on the front cover.
I can’t WAIT to see all the wonderful projects in this issue. How cool to have a peeks! Thanks SOOOOO much!
This will definitely be on my purchase list. Can’t wait….is it here yet?
I don’t think there has been a single month this year that I haven’t thought about Christmas. I’m already gearing up to start my cards, etc. so this issue is going to love me!! Can’t wait.
Where do you get inspiration from?
How amazing they all look!
cannot wait to have it in my hands
Lookin good!
I want to win the sleigh full of prizes.
(great job, you guys!)
WOWOWOW IS BEAUTIFUL THE SNEAK PEEKSSSS, I WANT TO HAVE WITH MEEEEEEEEEEE
))
I’ve looked at so many thousands of beautiful cards on your site and the ones you link to, with great awe and fascination. Being new at this, I keep puzzling over how one gets the cards with lots of “bulky” embellishments to fit into an envelope, especially one that will go through the mail, the Postal Service being quite picky these days about machinable envelopes. I can see these cards being attached to a gift to be given in person, but you’d have to put them in box to mail them. No one ever talks about envelopes. Is everyone creating cards to photograph? There’s a great book on the market devoted to envelopes. Would like to see a post on envelopes, please. Thanks.
This is issue looks amazing! I’m so sad I couldn’t submit to this call!
Thanks for the ‘sneak peek’. I love the clean look of it.
When items are being selected for inclusion in a publication, do you try to have a balance in the companies represented? It has seemed that the companies represented have been skewed toward one company in several issues.
looks great!
I love Sneak Peeks. I also love all of the Fall and Christmas colors and Projects and Cards, oh my.
