Working for Paper Crafts magazine really doesn’t get any better than when we get the opportunity to interact with readers, designers, manufacturers and new friends at a consumer show. Although it sure is a lot of work to get the details developed, shipments sent off and booth built (our CK Events team does it 18 times each year…I bow in their presence!), to me it’s worth every broken nail and bruised shin to be able to meet and greet the wonderful people who visit our booth.
For this summer’s CHA Craft SuperShow at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont IL, we went BIG with a roomy booth and lots of fun (and FREE!) activities. We had a wild and crazy dart-throwing contest (thank heavens for plastic tip darts…just sayin’) and found out that people bring out their best aim when there’s a chance to win a free special issue. The line was long, but energetic Maren Benedict did a great job of chasing stray darts and cheering on the participants to keep things moving along.

Maren’s energy was infectious and her laugh lit up the whole convention center!

Taking aim under Maren’s watchful eye
In addition to offering special show pricing on our own special issues, we also had some fun with a project kit from Quiltmaker, our sister publication. The adorable baby quilt below was made with a kit you can buy HERE, featuring fabrics made with the Girl Friday collection by Cosmo Cricket. It’s a remarkably simple pattern that can be adapted to a wide range of color and fabric combinations – get the pattern and instructions in their special issue called Small Quilts.

Isn’t this baby quilt to die for?
Then there were the make-n-take cards we offered, which brought out young and old, women and men. At one point, we had a 12-year-old boy, a great-grandmother, a husband and three generations of women all sitting around our table making cards. Magic!

Visitors who came to our booth got to make these three cards.

A variety of people took part in our make-n-take card projects!
Guess what? I’ve got some of that card-making magic to share with you, because I somehow managed to bring a few of these make-n-take kits back with me. Leave me a comment by midnight (MDT) on Wednesday, August 11 telling me your favorite card-making occasion, and I’ll pick three random winners to take home a card kit and special issue of your choice.
Hoping to see you at the SuperShow next January in Los Angeles!

I love making Christmas cards because that is such a special time of the year.
My favorite time to make cards is Halloween. It’s my grown-up version of trick or treat!
all very cute but love the hearts!
I love making Christmas cards. I need to get started for this year very soon.
I will say Valentine’s…it’s so “sweet”
I like to make THINKING OF YOU cards because making them brings out creativity and giving them brings joy.
My favorite is fall/thanksgiving. I love the vibrant colors and all the nature type items I can put on cards.
Christmastime is the busiest time of the year for me, but there’s just something about the holiday that make me love putting together cards!
Wish I could’ve gone to the super show- looks like so much fun!
I love birthday cards…especially if I can tailor it to the recipient. That was it is just as personal as a gift.
My favorite cardmaking event is daily. I don’t live near my mother so I make a card for her everyday and mail it out. So she gets a small piece of me each day.

I love making Halloween cards
It’s my favorite holiday and now that the kids are getting older its a little easier to make fun cards!
Looks like fun–wish I’d been there! My favorite cards to make are baby and wedding. I have way more of these than I will ever need, but they are such happy and momentous events!
My favorite cards to make are baby and Christmas cards! I’m slowly coming around to Halloween since there is so much cute stuff out there now.
I guess my favorite cards to make would be birthdays. My hubby and I have pretty big extended families so I send out lots of birthday cards during the year. I also like to make Christmas, Easter, St. Patty’s, Valentines Day, and graduation cards. Unfortunately I’ve had to make a lot of sympathy cards lately, too, but those are not a favorite since it is so sad.
Thanks for a chance to win an awesome prize, too.
Your CHA photos sure look fun!!
My favorite card-making occasion??? Birthdays, by far!!
Love making cards for Valentines Day! I always make a special one for each child and my hubby!
Birthdays are the best! You can really personalize a homemade card for someone:)
Christmas – I like making Christmas cards.

Birthdays are my favorite, maybe because that is the majority of cards I make.
I’m a Halloween girl all the way!
I am in a Birthday club swap so I have to say I look forward each month to make a few cards for the gals in the club. It’s always fun to personilize them to each one! TFS and good luck to all!
Christmas! I am addicted to Christmas goodies, ornaments, decorations of all kinds…I even enjoy making the Christmas cards!
My favorite card making occasion is Halloween. My sisters birthday is on Halloween so I always enjoy making her a Birthday card / Halloween card!
I like making personalized birthday cards the best. Usually, the recipient is happy and you can use seasonal themes.
I just love Christmas cards…I could keep on making them all the time!
I’m new to scrapping and was introduced at a Stampin Up party. This was the first time I made a card. I took my daughter and we both loved it so much it’s now a hobby for us. We have only made cards on one other occasion but we’ve started working on getting items to start our craft room. Slowly but surely we will get there and can start to scrap more often. It’s a time she and I spend together doing something we enjoy.
Christmas cards are my favorites to make. Love the colors and all the stamps and embellishments to pull it all together.

I like making Happy Spring cards because not only does it cheer the recipient up to know Spring is almost here, but it also cheers me up making the cards.
I have 2 favorite card-making times. World-Card Making Day is one. I love the fun that goes into that day! Making Christmas Cards is my other favorite time. I do some assembly line stuff with my daughter. Any time we can play with paper together makes us both very happy!!
My favorite is birthdays, I love making birthday cards.
I love making birthday cards and just because cards!!
Thank you so much for the chance to win! I was at the SuperShow but your booth was already closed down when we got there (we were very late driving from Southern Indiana)!!!

I seem to make lots & lots of thank you & birthday cards- good thing I love both of those!!
I love making Christmas and Birthday cards most.
I love making cards for my granddaughter for her birthday and holidays throughout the year. Also enjoy making birthday cards for family, friends, and my online cross stitch group’s birthday thread exchange.
Really I gotta pick a favorite?….ah man. lol. I think the most special occasion that I like to create cards to give out is “Thinking of You”!
I’ve been told that there’s nothing like the feeling of receiving a handmade card when you least expect it letting you know that someone cares….is thinking of you and/or loves you. I {heart} giving people that feeling!
I make cards for every and any occasion but I like birthdays the best. I love making that special card for someone I care about and thinking about them while I am creating!
My fave card making occassion is ‘friendship’ – I just love to surprise a friend with a sweet card just to let them know how fab they are! I never need an excuse to make a friendship card, I don’t need to be near a certain time of year, I can just make ‘em as I please LOL!
Hugs,
Aimes

no favorite occasion… i just enjoy making cards! [but, to be honest, most of the ones i make are 'thinking of you' cards]
My favorite cardmaking is when my BFF and I get together for a girls night out. We play and play, trying out one new technique or stamp after another. We are so tired, but blessed, after an evening together! Thanks for a chance to win!!!
I’d have to say that my favorite is Christmas, followed by birthdays. Unfortunately I don’t really have anyone else to share my love of cardmaking with because my girls are all grown and in college….
I love to make birthday cards!
I make a lot of thank you cards.
I love making Christmas cards the best, all that lovely glitter and bling!
My favorite card making occassion is Halloween. You can be funky, sweet and down right scary and they all are a perfect fit for this occassion. Thanks for the chance to win.
I absolutely looove to make Christmas Cards!!! I really enjoy making cards geared to the person/persons that I am sending them to. I like to use lots of colours, papers, embellishments, bling, and glitter! Thanks for the chance to win!
My favorite card making occasion was when my first grandson was about 3 weeks old and he “helped” me make a Mother’s Day card for his Mom. I put the pen in his hand and helped him write his name (while he fussed the entire time!).
I really like making all kinds of cards, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be making “Thinking of You” cards–the kind you make “just because”
–just because you’ve had someone on your mind, just because you want to keep in touch, just because!
I like designing and making our Christmas cards every year but I love making cards for all occasions, birthday, anniversary & get well. Those make and takes look like fun. Thanks for the chance to win.
Definitely Christmas cards and Thank You cards.
