It’s Monday! I know…I sound way too excited about that fact. BUT, it’s easy to be excited about Monday when you consider the fact that today kicks off an entire week’s worth of fun here on Paper Crafts Connection and Moxie Fab World in honor of World Card Making Day!
So let’s recap…
We’re hosting an entire week of card inspiration, fun and challenges. Ending with the grand finale on Saturday…an entire day devoted to this beloved hobby of ours. A day to possibly gather with friends to play with paper goodies. Or maybe take a class. Or maybe just shop for paper crafting goodness. There are so many fun ways to spend World Card Making Day. (If you’re interested in participating in our 2010 blog tour, click HERE.) See why I’m excited that it’s Monday?
Every day this week, the Go-to Gals will be highlighting a favorite special issue from the past year. I’m pulling out my beloved, dog-eared copy of this year’s Card Creations and turning to it for some holiday inspiration. Card Creations, Vol. 8 has a wonderful holiday card section that’s 14 pages long and features 28 draw-dropping holiday designs. But what about the rest of the issue? Who says I can’t turn any one of its beautiful creations into a holiday-themed card?
Check out Kelly Goree’s adorable card. That little dinosaur peeking out of the window just makes me smile. And I love his little speech bubble. SO cute!

Kelly Goree's Dino Gratitude Card can be found on p. 115.
I decided to put this design to work on a holiday card. Instead of a dinosaur peeking through the cut-out on Kelly’s card, I created a small shaker box with a snowman inside, along with some glitter and small punched snowflakes.

Since I basically kept the layout the same as Kelly’s card, the hard work was already done for me! I changed the sentiment in the speech bubble, changed the hearts to die cut snowflakes and used some fun holiday papers. In the words of my seven-year-old…”it was easy peasy, lemon squeezy!”

I just shared with you what inspired this card of mine. What do you use for inspiration on your holiday cards? Do you use a magazine or online project as a starting point? Or are you an innovator that likes coming up with your own ideas? Or is it something else? Leave me a comment and you could win one of three prize packages from Papertrey Ink, plus a copy of Card Creations, Vol. 8! The package includes the stamps and dies I used to create today’s card. All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Three lucky winners will take home this Papertrey Ink prize package!

What a fun card!
I get inspiration from lots of places, but lately, I’ve been using sketches to kick-start my process.
I like to combine a sketch challenge with a colour challenge. That usually gets my creative juices flowing!
I absolutely love this card! It’s so Christmasy. Great job, as usual. Thanks.
What an awesome shaker card. I like to come up with card ideas on my own or just use a sketch and make it my own ideas!!!
I love to browse blogs to find inspiration and look through magazines.
Betsy LOVE this card.
I get inspiration from the paper if its with a pattern.
Looking at blogs, and offcourse the PTI gallery and Waltzings Mouse makes gallery.
Love the stamps you choose.
I love the blogs and galleries, that usually gives me inspiration. I love idea books and magazines though…I save most of them and can go back to them as I want to!
I get inspired by colors, fabric and mostly other card designs. I’ll see something that triggers an idea and off I go! I do love making cards!
I look at the holiday decorations for the season at places like walmart or target. It helps to pick out the colors and shapes that would be neat to use. I like to come up with a new twist on things we see all the time.
Oh, there are so many inspirations. I love to see what friends are doing, magazines are great, and there is so much online. I use page maps but more often I adapt just like you did with the snowman. Love it!!
Two cute cards today – love the dinosaur & snowman peeking through the windows! My holiday card designs tend to be influenced by my favourite paper lines – I like to get all the co-ordinating products together & let the “feel” of the papers etc dictate the designs.
I like to look at my supplies/tools and come up with a way to use them. Last year I used some $1 stamps I purchased and an old heart punch to make Christmas cards.
I usually use PaperCrafts magazine or go to Christmas card making class. Then I see what materials I have at home and improvise.
I get my inspiration from my favorite blogs and then put my own spin of things.
I’m going to base my cards this year on what I already have. I’m SO GOOD at going and buying papers, stamps, ect and then not using them. I’ve recently moved to a town without a lss, so I can’t make the 2 1/2 hour drive to one just for the perfect ribbon. So, I’m letting my stash do it’s job this year. I’m pretty sure my grandma isn’t going to be upset that I used a paper line from last year on her card:)
I love looking thru the latest Paper Crafts Mag for inspiring holiday card ideas. But one thing I always do is try to incorporate old product since I have so much!
Holiday cards this year are going to be based on coordinating dies – I need something that makes the process faster with a new little one and a toddler… LOVE, love, love that PTI has been so fabulous about this lately!!
2 beautiful cards !
I get inspiration principally from blogs and sketches ! but sometimes from design on clothes !
Absolutely love Snowmen, and this card is Great!! love the peek thru with the snowman in the shaker box. It is so Darling. Love the colors and paper choices too. I always drool over your work!
For my holiday cards my inspiration either comes from one of your many PaperCrafts publications or I somehow come up with an idea on my own. Thanks so much for all of your inspiration in years past and every day. Also, thanks so much for the opportunity to win another great prize!
A stamp, a paper, a piece cut from an old Christmas card … all these things give me inspiration.
For me, finding the inspiration for my cards is half the fun! My best friend and I pull out back issues of Paper Crafts magazines and look at our favorite blogs before we start crafting. Sometimes we case a card, other times we use sketches or our own ideas – but whatever we do, we always have fun!
Inspiration comes from many sources: old craft magazines I’ve saved, old cards I’ve saved, origami …you name it! I’m also a big fan of the French craft magazine, Marie Claire Idees, which is available at both Barnes & Noble and Borders Books–the French have an entirely different and refreshing design aesthetic that’s really inspiring.
Such a fun shaker card, Betsy. My inspiration for Christmas cards ~~ ok, most of my cards
~~ comes from all of the fabulous blogs available. Actually, I love to create cards for challenges and then use them for different occasions. Thanks so much for the chance to win this awesome prize package!
I use magazines, blogs, and many other sources for inspiration for my holiday cards.
Thanks for the chance to win :O)
I love coming up with my own ideas, I never know what I will create until I sit down and do it.
Your card is very cute. The peekaboo snowman is really whimsical. I hadn’t even thought of using a layout sketch until recently, duh. I would cut out the largest element and layout the embellishments. Way too much time. I love the PTI team’s blogs–so much inspiration.
A paper or stamp might remind me of fond memories from holidays past and then I would try to incorporate those into the card, perhaps glitter for snow, or just a lovely winter scene, or Santa and reindeer on the rooftop, or a musical theme with a favorite carol. or even a reindeer sippng hot chocolate! You just never know what the end result will look like!
I have to have a starting point of inspiration.
Love the cards and love PTI. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Looking forward to putting the inspiration to work.
Love coming up with my own ideas but if lacking in inspiration I either turn to a magazine or the Paper Crafts Blog and designers
The snowman shaker card inspired me to try making more shaker cards. It seems like it has been years since I made one. Oh wait, it has been.
This is my first year participating in World Card Making Day (Week) I am so glad I found this blog.
I love how you changed the theme and made such a beautiful card…..Thanks for sharing
I look at several blogs and galleries and usually end up combining 2 or 3 of my favorite elements into my own holiday card and gift projects. I consider myself to be a pretty creative person as it is, but when I look at other awesome crafter’s for inspiration, my projects always seem to exceed my expectations!
LOVE the peek-thru window full of glittery fun!
Really love the way you did the Christmas card. TFS.
Janet
I use challenges to come up with ideas! I love your Christmas Card so soft and pretty! TFS
I love color and sketch challenges for fun but sometimes I just enjoy starting out from scratch and seeing what comes together by picking out one or two elements and building on them!
I’m inspired by blogs and magazines, there are some awesome designers out there! Love the snowman card…
Like many others, I get inspired by my favorite blogs & magazines. Love your card! The snowman is so cute. TFS.
Sometimes I do “my own thing” when inspiration hits me . . . from a particular stamp or an idea that just popped in my head.
And other times I get inspired by others creations . . . friends cards . . . online . . . and I get sparked by the colours, the layout or just one aspect.
What a great giveaway!
My friends are my inspiration for making cards. I create stuff I know they would like & it’s very personalized.
My inspiration comes from blogs, magazines, vendor galleries, store displays, ads…just about anything that catches my imagination! Love your shaker Santa, by the way. In fact, I just had an idea…
My color inspiration sometimes comes from magazines or card blogs. Sometimes I just think about it for awhile and come up with a fun, simple card. The shaker card is a possibility for Christmas cards…
I like to find an image or sentiment amongst my stamps or cricut cartridge collection go from there, finding inks, papers, embellishments to round it out.
Love that adorable shaker snowman card!! I like to use magazines, blogs & SCS for inspiration!!!
wonderful cards – I usually get inspired by looking at the color combos of papers that I have and also from adverts
