P. Kelly Smith

Welcome to Freebie Friday! Has it really been almost a week since World Card Making Day? While many of you left comments telling me how you spent your WCMD, I thought I would share the details of my day.

Many of you know that myself and a few ladies from the office are in a monthly card group. We “try” to meet regularly to swap cards and work on a fun paper crafting project. So when it came to scheduling our next meeting, it made complete sense to hold it on our fifth annual World Card Making Day holiday!

Our theme was Thank You cards that incorporated text (anyone remember the Reading Between the Lines feature in our September/October issue?). Since life was a little crazy last week, I didn’t even sit down to create my cards until an hour before we met. Thanks goodness for our special issue Go-to Sketches! It really does come in handy when you’re short on time and creativity. I borrowed one of Jessica Witty’s sketches and had so much fun with it. I just punched 1-inch circles out of my favorite October Afternoon paper (Fly a Kite), pop dotted them, added a button to one circle and finished it off with a thanks rub-on. So easy! Thanks, Ms. Witty!

Here's a few of our text-infused thank you cards.

Next came our fun Halloween project! I reached out to my Pisces Sister and card group co-founder Megan Hoeppner for some ideas. She had seen this rolled paper wreath on Club CK and suggested we give it a try. She graciously kitted all of our wreath supplies, so all we had to bring was our favorite Halloween paper. I chose Little Yellow Bicycle’s Boo-ville collection.

As one who has never misted before, I’m not going to lie…a little goes a long way. But I’m super pleased with the results. And can I tell you how many craft stores I went to before I found the perfect ruffled ribbon to match the ruffled crepe paper? Three! But it was worth it. If you’d like to make your own rolled paper wreath, Megan was kind enough to post a step-by-step tutorial on her blog. Please hop on over to see her fabulous take on this fun project.

Can you guess today’s giveaway? Yep, thanks to Megan, I’ve got some extra wreath kits, along with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist! Leave me a comment and I’ll pick two winners to take home this spooktacular prize package. All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Sunday, Oct. 10.

Love this concept for a wreath, but my front door is in the sun all day–and whatever I hang on my door “cooks”…if I use hot glue on anything it comes apart because the glue cooks and then gets cold at night?!!! I finally figured out to be big on push pins when designing something for this hot door of mine! :)
