An occasion is kind of like a personal, private holiday. An excuse to take a break from the ordinary. In my opinion there’s four basic necessities for turning an occasion into a special occasion…

  • Loved ones
  • Good food
  • A new outfit
  • A handmade card

What’s your favorite occasion to craft for? I would have to pick birthdays. I love creating cards with a particular person in mind. The new Card Creations: Favorite Occasions issue features a 19-page section filled with 38 gorgeous birthday cards to get your creative juices flowing.

But why not use the 67 pages of the issue for birthday card inspiration? After flipping through this magazine’s pages, I realized I could take just about any card, swap out the sentiment and create a card to suit my favorite occasion.

Here is a thank you card that I had published in this issue, which I decided to use as inspiration to create a few more cards:

My Generosity Card can be found on p. 83.

First I changed it up into a birthday card. I pulled out the same journaling pad that I used in the original card and kept the layout very similar. I just swapped out some of the elements and the sentiment. (I was also inspired by the candles on Beth Opel’s Who’s Counting Card on p. 29!)

And while I was at it, I decided to use the same layout and design to create an lovey-dovey anniversary card. I stuck a little closer to my original design, even using the same background stamps. It’s amazing how much you can change the look of a card just by changing up the colors and a few other details!

So, as you’re pouring over the pages of this issue, have fun thinking about all of the different occasions you can craft for using these cards as inspiration!

As I was pulling paper for four cards today (three birthday and one for my daughter), I realized that my favorites cards to make are those for my daughter. I think that’s because there are (almost) no limits on those. I guess that means my favorite occasion for which to make a card is ‘thinking of Brianna.’ Yes, that is an occasion in my opinion. ;-)

Birthday Cards are also my favorite to make because you can make them person specific. It is fun to take someone’s hobbies or interestest and challenge yourself to make a card with items that you may not have used before. I live in Florida and it is amazing how many ways you can put a FISH on a card!! Thank you for the opportunity to win your beautiful cards!!!

Stunning cards, just beautiful! My favourite occasion to create for is definitely Christmas. I think it’s because I first discovered my love of cardmaking when I made my own Christmas cards back in 2002 when I was recovering from major surgery. The Christmas theme became my first love.

  10. Tammy H says:

What beautiful work! My favorite occasion like yourself is birthday because you get a chance to make something very personal for someone special. I always try to think about who I am creating for and their favorite colors. (or dislikes) Ex: I have a friend who has a superstition about butterflies and does not like to have anything with them on it or receive anything with them on it, so I keep that in mind. Thanks for the chance to win.
