We love the World Card Making Day Contest, mostly because all of the entries are mail-ins. There’s nothing like ooohing and aaaahing over cards as you touch and feel the detail, or soak in the stunning simplicity up close. And even better than that is knowing that all the cards not selected as winners will fill the boxes of a wonderful group called Operation Write Home. It feels like we’re all winners in some way or another.
Speaking of winners, I have to admit I’m smiling just a bit as I write this, because we’ve made them wait TWO WHOLE MONTHS before we announced their names. The winning cards will be published in our upcoming March/April issue, and in the world of what we affectionately refer to as “magazine time,” that’s just how long it takes. They’ve been so patient, and have even received their prize packages already (which they can’t even publicly hoot about yet!). And this year’s prizes was a DOOZY – retail value over $600!
Prize package:

One winner in particular really made our hearts swell when she sent us this note after receiving her prize:
Kristen Iovino
Here are Kristen’s winning cards (you’ll have to watch for your March/April issue to see the rest!):

Thank you so much for printing Kristen’s letter! I am an “older” woman who started stamping and card creating 6 years ago. My daughters are already grown, and while they love my creations, they have no interest in pursuing the same hobby. However, I have two precious granddaughters who absolutely love to spend time with me in the craft room! I have even set up a space for their own supplies. One of them has mentioned that she wants to be creative like me and the other wrote about my card creations in an essay for school and received an A+ and an invite from the teacher for me to demonstrate to the class! I hope that one day, they will write a letter like Kristen’s about me. Thanks Kristen.
Congrats to everyone and what a wonderful story from Kristen!
Congrats to the winners! So sorry to hear of Kristen’s loss, I think there are a lot of us who can relate to her story (especially for the influences in our lives). Thanks so much for sharing.

Congrats to all the winners! Although not all of the entries could win the contest, I feel like all of us that entered won! This was my first contest and I never imagined the emotions involved knowing the judges were actually holding my cards and hopefully enjoying the sentiments and creativity that went into each of them!

Congrats everyone!!!!
Thanks for printing Kristen’s letter. While my Mother didn’t make cards on her own, whenever she was at my house, we spent time making cards. Those are some of my favorite memories. She enjoyed sharing my favorite hobby with me. After her death, I found all of the cards I had made her in a shoe box. She wasn’t a saver of all things handmade, so when I saw those, it hit a very special place in my heart!
Congrats to all of the winners!

An ice cream sandwich sudnos so, so good right now. The funniest thing I’ve noticed about pregnancy so far is that anytime I see someone eating something, I also have to have it. Or else. And every time I read your blog and all see all the yummy treats you’re eating, it just fuels my sweet tooth!Your hair would look super cute at that length in your photo. I don’t know if it’s behind your shoulders or wrapped up in your scarf, but it’s cute-cute.
