As stampers and paper crafters, we all know that the stamping world is filled with terms and techniques that might sound a little strange to a non-stamper. Ask a non-stamper to define some of these common terms and techniques and it might go something like this…
Q: What is masking?
A: Something we do at a Halloween party.
Q: Define misting.
A: Raining. Lightly. (according to my 10-year-old son)
Q: Do you know how to color with markers?
A: Um…didn’t we learn that in preschool?
Hey, let’s admit it…sometimes all of the intricacies of stamping can be a bit overwhelming! Masking, misting and markers are just three of the six trendy techniques covered in the new special issue called Stamp It! Techniques.

This issue will guide you step-by-step, demonstrating each technique in its most basic form. But, there are also projects that kick it up a notch and challenge you to think outside the box. With tons of projects and step-out photos, it’s perfect for beginners and advanced stampers alike.
For example, let’s take the Sensational Shimmer Sprays section. My Cherish Card from (p. 72) is an example of a basic technique. I simply used Tattered Angels’ Glimmer Mist to spray over my stamped background. I also used it to add color to my tissue paper flowers. Pretty easy-peasy.
My Celebrate Today Card (p. 66) used a slightly more creative approach to misting. I stamped flourish images onto my background and then used a die that coordinated with my stamp as a mask for misting. The result is a pretty background that resembles pre-printed patterned paper.
In keeping with the spirit of this special technique-based issue, I’ve prepared a video tutorial for you using yet another technique that incorporates shimmer sprays. I combined heat embossing (another technique featured in this issue!) with Glimmer Mist to create a unique background design!

Love the video, would be great to see more of them, what a great idea! I would love to see a video on the use of the Copic markers, I’ve been doing some research on them and will probably be taking the plunge shortly but want to know as much as I can before I get them so I can just jump right in, lol! Also new uses for old tools we just Had To Have, lol! Heck anything on stamping and paper crafts would be a welcome video! Thanks again!

Thank you for the great video! I loved it! And yes! more videos would be wonderful. There is probably not a topic that would not be great but I would love to see more dye type videos (any sort of dyes!) and any technique videos and how about some “design secret” videos – touching on color or spacing or grouping, etc (for those of us who are graphically challenged!!!)

Thank you for doing this tutorial….I am such a visual learner that any technique that can be shown ina video would be a blessing to me….I would love to see some use of the smooch paints, step by step of kiss technique, how to thread my sewing machine! LOL….videos on how to make envelopes for those square cards etc….

Great video and lovely card. I would like to see more techniques of almost anything. I tend to use the same technique most of the time, and forget about a lot of others. When I see videos on different techniques it refreshes my memory and inspires me to try it.
Loved the video, thanks Betsy. I love watching how other people make cards. I just like seeing if people do things a little differently than I do. I might pick up an easier way to do something. I will watch any technique on video. It is also fun to put a voice to stampers that you follow daily but have never met.
I think Mirror image is a big WOW project and one that you cannot just figure out, someone has to teach that wonderful technique. Great Video Betsy, I hope we see many more.

I could honestly watch anything Betsy wants to show me. I am in love with her work. This video was fabulous and I love the idea of using the coordinating Papertrey Ink dies to mask off areas around the stamped image. This might work really well with a Copic airbrush too.
I loved this video. I would like to see videos of any new technique, how to use new tools or new twist on old products to update them. I really like video tutorials. It really helps to actually see the technique being done.
