As stampers and paper crafters, we all know that the stamping world is filled with terms and techniques that might sound a little strange to a non-stamper. Ask a non-stamper to define some of these common terms and techniques and it might go something like this…

Q:  What is masking?
A:  Something we do at a Halloween party.

Q:  Define misting.
A:  Raining. Lightly. (according to my 10-year-old son)

Q:  Do you know how to color with markers?
A:  Um…didn’t we learn that in preschool?

Hey, let’s admit it…sometimes all of the intricacies of stamping can be a bit overwhelming! Masking, misting and markers are just three of the six trendy techniques covered in the new special issue called Stamp It! Techniques.

This issue will guide you step-by-step, demonstrating each technique in its most basic form. But, there are also projects that kick it up a notch and challenge you to think outside the box. With tons of projects and step-out photos, it’s perfect for beginners and advanced stampers alike.

For example, let’s take the Sensational Shimmer Sprays section. My Cherish Card from (p. 72) is an example of a basic technique. I simply used Tattered Angels’ Glimmer Mist to spray over my stamped background. I also used it to add color to my tissue paper flowers. Pretty easy-peasy.

My Celebrate Today Card (p. 66) used a slightly more creative approach to misting. I stamped flourish images onto my background and then used a die that coordinated with my stamp as a mask for misting. The result is a pretty background that resembles pre-printed patterned paper.

In keeping with the spirit of this special technique-based issue, I’ve prepared a video tutorial for you using yet another technique that incorporates shimmer sprays. I combined heat embossing (another technique featured in this issue!) with Glimmer Mist to create a unique background design!

the videos are always a great help! I’d like to see some videos on making paper/tissue/ribbon/ ruched flowers. There are times I don’t have quite what I’m looking for in my stash and would love to be able to make some of my own. And I’d LOVE to win shimmer sprays!! I only have some of the walnut stain kind which can be dark, and I like COLOR! LindaK

  4. Nicki Scheck says:

Ooooohhhh, that video is awesome! I’ve done this technique before, but with only one color of mist, not two! That is such a beautiful look! Thanks for sharing it! I would love to see a video about how to use distress inks in different ways.

  5. Kim Curtis says:

Love the videos cause I’m a visual learner. I love the colors that you used in this video, oh what am I saying……………….I love all the glimmer mist colors. LOL!!!!!!

I’m just so thrilled that you’ve given beginners, and even us old pro’s some new and exciting videos to learn from. I especially hope that you would help us use up some of the older products (from mists to inks, glues & etc) in new and refreshing ways. I always turn to paper crafts magazine for all the inside information of paper crafting. Thanks so much!

  7. Michelle says:

I really liked the glimmer mist tutorial since I have never used glimmer mists before and now I see how awesome it really is using glimmer mists. I think I would like to see videos on the special tools that are shown in the papercrafts magazine and techniques that are used on cards that are not obvious to understand how to do them when just looking at the pictures and written directions.

  8. Emily says:

What beautiful cards! I loved the video, and would like to see more. I’d be interested in how the pleated flower was made and any other stamping techniques.

  9. I finally found some time to watch the video. Love the card and the technique. Now for some glimmer mist! I want to buy some but never know what colors to start with so I never buy them.
    Eveline.

I did enjoy this video and am new to misting and especially glimmer mists, so I did not know this technique. I will definitely use it just as soon as I get my hands on some mists. I would love to see videos on more background techniques. I would, also, really love seeing video tutorials on making different types of moveable or pop-up cards.

  12. Julia says:

Would love to see videos on different shaped cards as well as bags and boxes.

  13. Laura B says:

that looks like such a great magazine. loved the tut on using the resist technique. I love watching most tutorials as I usuallty pick up a few ideas and tips along the way.

I don’t have any Glimmer mists but have used homemade ones on occasion, messy but fun. thanks for the chance to win some.

  14. Jessica says:

Loved the video. I just love watching video tutorials. I guess I’m more of a visual learner. Although I’m ok at following written directions too. I’d just rather spend the time watching than reading. I’d be happy with any kind of tutorial. Maybe masking would be good. Thanks for asking.

  15. wendy says:

Oh gosh, would love to see more videos! The magazines are great, but I’m a visual learner and love technique videos, esp. those showing how to use new (at least to me!) products!

The video was WONDERFUL-what a great idea! I have not done the paper piecing before, so I would like to see a video on that-it’s tuff being a newbie!

  18. I love videos, but I also enjoy detailed tutorials. I’m very interested in making embellishments, paper piecing and altered items. Thanks for the generous gifts you’ll be giving to a lucky crafter (maybe me ?)

  19. Paula says:

I’m a new technique junky. Any videos are appreciated. How about framed wall art ideas?
