Groovin’ with the Go-to Gals – Sláinte

Tomorrow is a happy day for me! Time to proudly wear green!

My great-grandfather and grandmother came over on a boat from Ireland in 1899. So dem Irish genes will proudly be sporting it too!

The crockpot will be cooking up corned beef and cabbage while I attempt to keep middle school students from pinching each other during an ALL-important lesson on genetics.

Then I will come home and make my children eat the corned beef and cabbage and remind them it is just one day a year. And it is part of their heritage so they NEED to eat it, not necessarily enjoy it. So they will eat it again this year and STILL not enjoy it. They are already beginning to grumble! (wickedly snickering)

So get ready to say “Sláinte!” Cheers to you! {literal translation: health}

  1. Maren, I love your St Patrick’s Day card! I’m Irish and don’t eat corned beef and cabbage – lots of much more enjoyable Irish dishes to enjoy! You can tell your kids it could be worse – you could be serving up crubeens or tripe instead! Hope you have a fun St Patrick’s Day:)

    My corned beef is in the fridge, along with real Irish butter and cheese, and I’ve baked the first of 8 Irish Soda Breads, that will be gracing various tables and workplaces by tomorrow. Slainte to you as well!

    erin go bragh! which I actually had to look up to know what it means! We’ll be wearing green and I’m trying to come up with some kind of chocolate pie/festive green thing for my daughter.

  5. Every year we go to my mom’s, and she fixes corned beef and cabage… it’s a great family tradition :) And LOVE the card, very bright and cheery! Hope you and your family have a GREAT St. Patrick’s Day!

    I am part Irish, but don’t like cabbage and corned beef, but my non Irish husband does. HAPPY ST. PAT’S DAY!!

    Love the card! Will have to make one for tomorrow. Always make corned beef for St. Pats, but I cheat on the cabbage — I make cole slaw instead!! And don’t forget the mashed potatoes! :)

    You are soooo cute!!! I too will be trying to keep my middle schooler’s from pinching each other as well!! Good luck with the genetics lesson as well as trying to get your little ones to eat corned beef and cabbage. I confess, I have never eaten it!

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Happily, I have married into a family with some Irish heritage, so I get to eat corned beef and cabbage tomorrow!

    I’m not Irish (that I know of) but it is a dream to see Ireland!! Love Celtic music and lore too!! Tomorrow I’m having lunch with my Mom at a lovely Irish tea room which is above an equally quaint Celtic store in my town.
    Great St Pat’s card-slainte to you also!
