Welcome to Magazine Monday and day one of Card Creations 9 Week!
So glad you could join us as we celebrate our latest and greatest special issue, Card Creations, Volume 9! Featuring 293 fresh card ideas for every occasion and holiday, we’ll spend the next five days “meeting” a few of them and getting to know what makes a card “Card Creations worthy”.
We’re also partnering with Trends Editor, Cath Edvalson and the Moxie Fab World
for a whole week of promotion. Between the two sites, we’ll be spotlighting projects and giving away lots of copies of this brand new issue.
Today we’re spotlighting the talented Chan Vuong who has 20 cards in Card Creations, Volume 9! It’s hard to believe that Chan just started submitting cards for publication ONE year ago. For someone who proclaims to be “as ordinary as they come”, let’s get to know Chan and her extraordinary cards!

Chan Vuong
1. What is your favorite occasion to paper craft and why?
I don’t have just one occasion that’s a favorite. My goal in most cases is just to make a card or project that brings out a smile.

Bloomin' Day Card, p. 9
2. What is your most difficult paper crafting challenge?
Hmmm…I’d have to say placement. I shift elements around and ‘hover’ over projects for quite a while before I figure out where I want to adhere things.
3. What is your favorite paper crafting supply?
If I really had to narrow it down, it would end up being a tie between stamps and patterned paper.
4. How would you describe your style?
Fun and cute…with a big lean into clean and simple. Sometimes I’ll venture into another style for a project here and there, but fun and cute is my crafting home sweet home.

Cute as a Button Card, p. 95
5. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m kind of reclusive. I’ve had this dream for years of buying a tiny house from Tumbleweed Tiny House Company and putting it in the middle of far, far away.
6. How do you keep yourself organized when it comes to submission deadlines?
I’m really not that well-organized, but I do print out the details of each call and keep the print-out on my workspace so that I can refer to it easily. I type out my list of supplies and instructions for each project after I make it so that it won’t be overwhelming to get all of that done when the deadline rolls around. I also mark the deadline on a little calendar on my desk.
7. Name three Paper Crafts designers whose styles you like and tell me why they appeal to you.
- Betsy Veldman: While my paper crafting style is completely different from Betsy’s, I really admire her attention to every detail and her knack for making such beautiful things. I imagine that anyone who receives a Betsy card would treasure it forever!
- Teri Anderson: I love Teri’s relaxed and cool style – she comes up with so many ideas that make me think, “I wish I had thought of that!”
- Kim Kesti: I love how clean Kim’s cards look, as well as her bold use of color. She comes up with so many clever designs!
8. Do you have any advice for someone who’s never been published or who wants to try submitting for the first time?
Don’t be afraid! If you’ve always had a dream of seeing your work in print, trying is a step closer than thinking about it. Try not to compare your work with the work of others – just craft what you love! (Psst…the deadline for A Card a Day 2012 is TONIGHT at midnight (MDT). Click HERE for all the details!)
9. Out of your 20 cards in Card Creations, Vol. 9, which is your favorite and why?
I was feelin’ pretty proud of those punched out buttonholes on my Cute as a Button Card, but if I had to pick just one, it would have to be my Ghostly Boo Card. Before making it, I didn’t really ‘get’ Halloween cards. I just thought, “Who gives Halloween cards?!” After the fun of putting it together, though, I now ‘get’ it. I also thought the glittery white cardstock made the ghost a little more jazzy and a little less creepy, so I was quite happy with that choice. Ha!

Ghostly Boo Card, p. 82
10. Do you have a blog or online gallery?
I have a blog that can be found at http://humblechan.blogspot.com/.
Thanks, Chan! If you’re a fan of Chan’s fun and cute cards, leave a comment for her and I’ll pick three winners to take home a copy of Card Creations, Vol. 9. All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Tuesday, May 17.
Happy Monday!
Kelly

Congrats on having 20 cards published Chan! You are among my top 5 fave designers. It couldn’t happen to a nicer person! God bless.
I am sorry for a mistake I made on my previous comment on this post. I mistook a card made by Belinda Chang Langer and thought it was Chan’s card. They both do such amazing work, and Congrats again on having so many cards published Chan!
