I’m a paper crafter – are you?

Silly question. Of COURSE you are.

We have a love for all things paper, and share that passion with everyone in our tight knit community. We willingly provide tips and tricks to each other, we cheer on our sisters in creativity when they participate in gallery challenges, and we speak the same language.

We CAS projects. We understand that ink comes in dye, pigment, chalk, hybrid, watermark, alcohol, and embossing formulas. We know that bling isn’t just for jewelry and a bone folder is a must for our tool kit. We have at least 3 different pairs of scissors because…well, we can. And we turn to sketches when our creativity needs a little boost.

I remember when I first saw the word sketch in the world of paper crafting. My first thought was charcoal pencil, a sketch pad, and many skills I can’t even dream of having. It sounded intimidating.

I eventually figured it all out, though, and then paper crafting became my career. I joined the team here at Paper Crafts magazine, and some days I forget that it’s a business because it’s so much fun. But business it is – our job is to bring inspiration to the paper crafting community and beyond.

It’s also our job to speak a language that doesn’t sound like Swahili to people in Topeka.

As we were final editing our next special issue featuring card sketches, we asked ourselves if someone who wasn’t yet part of the paper crafting circle would know what a sketch is, or how versatile and helpful it can be.

We realized that “sketches” can mean different things to different people. YOU know what it means, and WE know what it means, but what about that person in Barnes & Noble who is studying magazines in the hobby section of the newsstand for the first time?

So, in an Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Prince sort of way, we renamed our Go-to Sketches special issue.

Introducing…

Our newest special issue, Card Ideas for Paper Crafters

It still has 84 sketches and 288 amazing projects in it, with sections that highlight horizontal cards, vertical cards, square cards, and even shaped cards. It’s still populated with the best of the 2,500+ submissions we received (the most popular sketch received almost 80 submissions alone!), and you’ll still find that boost you need to use your scraps, a particular embellishment, or stack of card bases that are 5″ square.

It’s just loaded with Card Ideas for Paper Crafters. And we hope that title speaks plain and simple English to people who see it for the first time. Because, just like you, we love to make new paper crafting friends.

If you can remember back far enough, what was the first crazy term you remember from your early days in paper crafting? Put it in the comments (by midnight MDT on Thursday, July 28), and I’ll pick three people to win a before-it’s-even-on-sale copy of this beauty of an issue. And if you don’t win this time, be patient until August 22 when we launch our Card Ideas Party Week with all sorts of giveaways and sneak peeks. We’re sorta fun like that!

Cheers,
Jennifer

Oh please pick me!!! I love sketch editions!!!! I am a die hard sketch fanatic! I guess for me the first paper crafting term I was confused about was paper piercing.

I love love love all the Papercraft publications, and this issue looks as delicious as it’s predecessors. I am by no means new to crafting in general, or even papercrafting specifically, but I still have terms come up that I need to Google. I had to research CASE (copy & steal everything-according to SCS) & CAS (clean & simple). And I struggled with what the different types of inks were all about. There’s pigment, dye, solvent – and then when Distress (dye) inks came out…what the heck were the differences. But, learning & experimenting with all the different things is part of the fun. Now I don’t let those terms intimidate me. Bring on the new terms, ideas, and techniques I say!

My early days of paper crafting were..mm.a bit scary to me.. the new jargons..I didn’t even know what CAS or CASE meant..Embossing – what is wet/dry/heat?? and a whole list of other terms!..I am learning things daily and slowly and I am only feeling more passionate to this wonderful craft.. This magazine would now help/inspire me with more creative sketches/challenges and serve as a guide to me in creating wonderful handmade cards with love. thanks for the chance to win!

I just picked up a copy of this magazine yesterday. I kept seeing duplicate cards and then realized that the magazine went from page 122 back to page 91 thru 122 again…was there a printing error?
