The Circus is Back in Town

True story…

I saw a sign on the way to work the other day announcing the Ringling Bros. Circus was coming to town. Oh boy!

I remember it all fondly from my youth. The lion tamers, tight rope walkers, the big top, clowns, the ringmaster, and all the circus animals. You know the one…

The greatest show on earth!

Since I saw the circus-themed cards in the September/October 2011 issue, I’ve been itching to go to the circus. These cards really got me nostalgic.

Back row: Elephant Cirque Card by Donna Bowman, Mustache Birthday Card by Amber Daigre, and Popping By Card by Shelly Greyback; Front row: Carousel Card by Vera Yates, Step Right Up Card by Ashley Nguyen Newell, Lions, Tigers, & Birthdays Card by Amber Daigre, Wish Big Card by Cristina Kowalczyk, and Ticket to the Party Card by Heather Campbell

I drove by yesterday to see how the circus tent was faring and to see when it might be open to the public. I should have instantly realized something was amiss when I saw the tent was set up in an abandoned parking lot.

I took a closer look at the sign…Strangling Brother’s Circus?!? The scariest show on earth. Awwww, the disappointment!

(I’ll never be able to look at clowns the same way again!)

I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer for the real circus! Meanwhile, I’m glad I can flip through my Paper Crafts September/October issue to get my fix.

Clowning around,
Kerri

P.S. Leave a comment telling me your favorite thing from the circus and I’ll pick one lucky winner to receive a copy of our September/October issue and the circus cards shown above! All comments must be received by midnight (MDT) on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

I never went to the circus that much as a child but the best part the last time I went would be watching the faces of my children. I also loved watching the animals.

I always liked the trapeze artists when I was younger. BUT since taking my kids to the circus I find the trapeze artist to be too “pole dancer~ish”.

I have a couple of memories about the circus from growing up. At one point when I was young we lived in Madison, WI and a couple of times we went to Baraboo to see where the Barnum & Bailey circus had their winter grounds. I was always fascinated in the trapeeze artists and the tightrope walkers. It was SO scary to watch them! I also remember going to the circus another time with my Dad. He took a friend of mine and myself to see Barnum & Bailey in Nashville TN. I loved eating pink cotton candy and watching all the acts perform. Thanks for a chance to win a great prize. :D
