World Card Making Day: Susan Style!

Susan headshoot World Card Making Day: Susan Style!

Susan R. Opel

I’m a crafting machine today! In just 34 days, I’m headed to Miami to start my adventure on The Paper Crafts Cruise!

So here I sit, cranking out 60 (yes, 60!) cards for the card swap that will take place on the cruise. All of the attendees will bring a set of cards to share with the other cruisers, so we’ll walk away with a set of cards created by all of our new friends!

To make it easy on myself, I’ve been doing my cards in stages. First I cut all 60 of my card bases, and then I moved on to scoring them. That left me with a stack of 60 little canvases to work with.

Next, I went to my trusty scrap stash again (ala this post by Betsy Veldman and this post and this post) and started pairing some of my favorite patterns and colors together. I cut three strips and reserved one to be added horizontally later.

Then, I added a strip that I had notched on one end and tied a black ribbon in a knot around it for a uniform look.

Some of my favorites so far!

My last step will be to add a computer generated sentiment (similar to these seen below), and then I’ll punch them and adhere them with foam tape.

It’s a fun way to spend the day, and I’m excited to meet people from all around the world on the cruise who love card making as much as I do!

Now step away from the computer and create some cards!

I must say again I loved this idea so much from the first posts and samples that I now have piles of strips sorted by colors and I’ve been making cards whenever I have time in between other projects. I’m making card sets to give as gifts for Christmas. I love playing and matching up all the patterned papers!

What a great start to card-making. I love using my pc for creating sentiments. You can even print these on sticker paper and punch them out or use your printer for heat embossing. You have to apply the powder while the ink is still wet and emboss away. I also love using transparencies to print sentiments on. The cruise sounds like fun, fun, fun!

Great idea!! I love what Betsy did, and I like your take on it (and a tutorial someday, when you have time, on how you do the computer generated sentiments would be loved !!) I’m going to have to give that one a try: it kind of looks like the piecing on a quilt, and I love it. thanks for reminding me to give it a try :-)
