Holly Anderson

Hello, all you creative minds out there!

I am thrilled to be the new intern at Paper Crafts. First, I want to say that I have been totally blown away by the brilliance of you paper crafters. My first day, I worked on returns—the cards and other projects that were featured in the magazine and needed to be sent back. I was introduced to some of the designers via their cards, boxes, and gift tags. I felt motivated by the glorious projects in my hands, thinking that I could take inspiration from each idea to make something of my own.

Needless to say, I now regret leaving my boxes of crafting supplies in my home state: the illustrious Texas. Don’t mess.

I confess, in the last four years I have seen quite a dearth of handmade cards. It’s hard to collect and store crafting supplies when you need to be able to fit all your things in a car because you seem to move as often as women crave chocolate. It’s also hard to justify piecing together paper scraps with glue when you have a grammar or phonetics test looming over your head. I did find time, however, to host a girls-only Valentine card making party!

Now that I’m done with school, I will have the opportunity to dive back into crafting and reacquaint myself with my heat embossing gun.

But back to those returns I was talking about. Looking at your projects, I was somewhat ashamed to ever have considered myself a paper crafter, but I do enjoy paper, stamps, ribbon, buttons, and fabric even if I am an amateur. In the crafting shoebox I actually did bring with me, I can find a couple cards I made a few years ago. Sure, they may be embarrassing, but I take comfort in the phrase, “It’s the thought that counts” because it really is.

To me, one of the best things about paper crafting and card making is the ability to share your creations with others and tell them, “I made it myself!” Somehow, that makes it all more meaningful—like a child proudly giving his mother a macaroni picture frame for Mother’s Day. It’s precious because it was made with love.

Thanks for tuning in! I can’t wait to see even more of your paper crafted goodness!

Holly
