Happy fall, y’all!
Since we’re officially in November, it’s time to start thinking about turkey, stuffing and the all important question in my family: pumpkin or apple pie? (This question has long divided the Smith clan, so to maintain the peace and foster loving communication at the dinner table, we ALWAYS serve both!)
And while the menu should be your top priority at Thanksgiving, let’s not forget about the holiday décor. After all, this is the perfect opportunity for a paper crafter to do her thing (and have an audience of “civilians” who will not only marvel at your ability to make a fine feast, but also set a gorgeous table).
Looking for some savory projects? The So Thankful feature in our November/December 2011 issue is a cornucopia of inspiration. From our paper crafted table to yours, here’s three place card ideas:

Marisa Gunn's Autumn Color Place Card, pg. 54
I love the gorgeous patterned paper and stamps Marisa used on her place card. And the kraft base is perfect for Thanksgiving. Feels like home!

Diana Morales's Turkey Tent Place Cards, pg. 58
Have a table of little pilgrims and Indians? Assemble these place cards and they’re sure to “gobble” them up! The best part…Diana created these tents without a die or template…just score and fold!

Lorena Canto Laveria's Acetate Autumn Place Cards, pg. 60
The inspiration is clear! Lorena made these quick and easy place cards from a transparency sheet, a leaf die, ribbon and stickers.
With Thanksgiving just a little over three weeks, it’s time to get in the kitchen (and the craft room)! Leave a comment telling me your favorite Thanksgiving tradition and I’ll pick one winner to take home the three sets of place cards shown above, plus BasicGrey’s Indian Summer collection – the same collection Marissa used in her Autumn Color Place Card. All comments must be received by Wednesday, November 2 at 5 PM MDT.
Happy feasting!

My favorite part is watching the Packers with my family and my Grandma making the stuffing in a GIANT pot that I got to sneak bites out of throughout the day
My favourite Thanksgiving tradition is the feast with all the family!
Favorite thanksgiving tradition is cooking and eating the turkey and also garlic roasted fresh green beans…I think my favorite tradition is the FOOD!!! Yep for sure the food!!!!
thanksgiving for me starts the holiday baking frenzy. fun. fun. fun.
It isn’t Thanksgiving without the Macy’s parade, football and great food with family.
those turkeys are precious!
I live over 700 miles from my parents, so our new tradition for Thanksgiving is to meet halfway in between our homes for Thanksgiving so no one has to drive the whole way to be together!
I’d like to say that I have some lofty tradition that I love, but the truth is, it is all about the Turkey and Dressing!!

My favorite tradition is the new one that my husband and I have to go to Tahoe and spend Thanksgiving with each other and celebrate our life together! We just saw Glen’s family a couple of months ago and will see mine at Christmas so we really are looking forward to this time to ourselves.
OHHH! LOVE these place cards! My fav Thanksgiving tradition–EATING:) LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I agree with Sav…nothing’s better than EATING!
As a Canadian, I have already celebrated Thanksgiving this year. My favourite tradition is being with family and making some kind of related craft with my young nieces. This year we made some 3D pumpkins to hang from the chandelier.
My favorite tradition is preparing our Thanksgiving feast with my 2 children who are now 24 and 26 years old. Each of them has been cooking with me since they were about 2 years old. Our kitchen is tiny, but some how each Thanksgiving it seems to stretch and grow so there’s plenty of room for all of us to work. My daughter now makes the best stuffing ever and my son’s pies never cease to amaze me. He makes his crust from scratch. Years ago the crusts apppeared to be a series of puzzle pieces adhered together, but now they are sheer perfection. Don’t get me wrong…that’s not the point. The tradition is just laughing, talking and creating together…
My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is having everone gather at my parents’ hoise for our traditional family-filled feast. Oh, and my Aunt Lu’s pecan pie – my favorite! Have to include that too!
My family and I get up on Thanksgiving morning and start cooking our Thanksgiving feast. The four of us crowd around a pot of boiling chicken broth and tear canned biscuits into little pieces dropping them into the hot broth. This is my hubby’s version of homemade dumplings. They really are good after boiling several minutes to make them get nice and puffy.
YUMMY! We also go shopping nice and early on Black Friday to catch some great deals!!! Thanks for a chance to win these adorable place cards plus the BG collection.
Love pumpkin pie – homemade, bakery-bought, doesn’t matter … gotta have it w/ whipped cream! That’s a family tradition.
Turkey and Stuffing and Cranberry from a can just love that stuff !!!
My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is spending time with family.
I love food, family, tv specials, newspaper and a nap for BLACK FRIDAY.
Our family tradition is to get together with extended family and share a lovely meal together.
I love having a wonderful meal with our family- so much fun & warmth- it’s become one of my favorite days!
Our Thanksgiving tradition starts the day before. We all gather to make the desserts and then later in the evening we all cut and prepare the fresh vegetables so they are ready to cook the next day. We sit around the table and laugh and chop, laugh and chop! The next morning I get up early and start the stuffing and wake up everyone with the scent of Thanksgiving beginning. Then we have doughnuts for breakfast as we watch the Macy’s day parade. And I can’t forget that after the feast and football, we go over the ads for black Friday sales and stay up let with several computers to catch the sales online!!!!
I love my pumpkin pie after a nice meal with my family.
Great place cards and love the colors in BasicGrey’s Indian Summer collection. My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is double-layer pumpkin pie. Not sure why I don’t make it any other time (maybe that’s why it’s a tradition). Thanks for the chance to win!
I love everything about Thanksgiving. Everyone helps make the meal (or the few woman do) and then you stuff yourself with stuffing and still find room for pie! I love it all… can’t wait!
My favorite tradition is the gathering of family naturally- seeing the cousins grow from year to year, etc. My fav food is pumpkin “swirly” – a dessert of course- a pumpkin roll that Aunt Joanne brings every year! Beautiful place cards!
I usually just stick to cardmaking, but these place cards make me want to branch out
my favorite thing about thanksgiving is this: we would make the trek “home” – a 10-hour drive to fix thanksgiving dinner at my mother-in-laws house. she worked on thanksgiving day, so this had been our tradition. she passed away several years ago, and we have not found another tradition that seems right. we don’t travel there now. my mother used to go away for thanksgiving because it was right around her wedding anniversary. now, they don’t go. this is recent, so i don’t know what their new tradition will be. essentially, we spend thanksgiving in our own house now, together.
On Thanksgiving, my family always gathers around my Grandma’s big table to have a huge Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone has their part in what they made, including the men. So like you, Kelly, I love gathering round’ the table on Thanksgiving. Thanks so very much for the chance to win!
My favorite Thanksgiving Tradition is I have our family members complete the “thankful” card that I make each year so they can complete them and I put them on a scrapbook layout for that year.
My FAVORITE is the making of the pies!! All of the woman in my family get together the day before thanksgiving and we make pies!! We always have SO MUCH fun and it just brings back the MAIN reason for the holiday!! =) THANKS for sharing and for the chance to win!! Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)
Of course, the family tradition is TURKEY, always has been TURKEY, and will always be Turkey dinner!
Our tradition is to go to my mother-in-law’s where she cooks a huge feast (mostly by herself, but I’m usually there early to help) and we all eat until we’re stuffed! The house is so full of people and baked items that it gets very warm, but we have a great time.
my favorite tradition is making pies with my mom for the holiday. thanks so much – i love the placecards!
