Goodbyes are rarely easy. So when we sent Holly Mills (our ever-smiling and lovable graphic designer) out the door with our best wishes for success in her new position, we were quietly feeling sorry for ourselves.
Since we’re a small and close-knit family team around here, it’s always nerve-wracking when we have to adopt a new sibling hire a new teammate. Will the new person understand our collective sense of humor? Put up with our goofy photo ops for blogs and Facebook? Or – GASP! – even like us? And it’s not like new hires come with a free 30-day trial, either.
However, some new hires come with a free 90-day trial…interns! We’ve been lucky to have very talented interns (did you know that your fabulous blog host Courtney Smith was an intern before we hired her?), so it was natural for us to look at one who was here in a design capacity a few years ago.
She was here in the fall of 2009 as a design intern, and made quite an impression on us. She did our make-up for our group Halloween costumes that year (she is a face-painter at local events), she helped us celebrate buttons on National Button Day, and even our banner right here on the blog is her illustration work (although we changed the colors somewhere along the way).
In the two years since we bid her adieu, she’s graduated with her bachelor’s degree in graphic design and even got engaged. She’ll become Mrs. Mitch Ward on March 10, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
She wrote very eloquently about her internship in her last blog post for us as an intern, so I’m sure you’ll love reading her first blog post for us as a graphic designer. Stay tuned – it’s coming soon.
Welcome back, Melinda!
