A Mustache Baby Bash!

What do Rhett Butler, Charlie Chaplin, and Captain Hook all have in common? A crazy cool stache! Since my own dad has sported one the majority of his life (and the entirety of mine), I’m thrilled mustaches are finally getting the respect they deserve and are even becoming a popular trend in paper crafting.

As one who always has her pulse on breaking trends, it was no surprise to see our own Cath Edvalson (or a smaller version of herself!) at this winter’s CHA trade show with her own moxie fab stache:

You wouldn’t believe how many people wanted to hug and kiss Mustached Cath!

About a month ago, my sister Holly was in town for a weekend visit. She was planning a girlfriend’s baby shower and asked if I would like to “donate my crafty resources” to her little soiree. She’d been scouting ideas on Pinterest and she noticed the mustache trend seemed to be popping up everywhere.

Indeed.

When I brought out my copy of Party Ensembles (a valuable resource for any party!), I showed her five ensembles that all had mustaches in them. Since we really liked the style of Betsy Veldman’s staches in her Spy Birthday ensemble (p. 13), I set out to recreate 24 of these dapper dudes:

Because I wanted the mustaches to look a little more life-like, I traced them on coordinating brown and black felt with a white marker. (FYI: The white marker was essential to see the outline on the felt.) I then trimmed the felt staches and adhered the cardstock bases with fabric glue. The plan was to use them as photo props at the shower, so we found blue and white paper straws at a local party store and hot glued them to the back of the cardstock bases. I even cut little pieces of felt trim and glued it over the straws for extra support. Whew! Who knew recreating facial hair could be so exhausting? No wonder my dad spends so much time grooming his mustache!

Even though I couldn’t attend Holly’s soiree in Dallas, I thought I’d share a few photos of our collective crafty efforts. My other sister, Laurie, is the talented photographer behind the lens here:

Holly found these adhesive-backed mustaches at a party store. She got six for $2! She simply hole-punched them and added straws for fun table décor.

Guests also got to offer up a few words of wisdom in this cute mommy advice book.

Even the cupcakes were adorned with fun boy-themed picks and sentiments. Below the cupcakes are chocolate suckers made from a mustache mold!

Not to be completely overlooked, the couple’s first “child” Turtle wanted to thank everyone for coming to his mommy’s shower. You can’t really tell from the picture, but inside the bag is a turtle-shaped sugar cookie!

And FINALLY my 24 mustaches make their grand debut!

That’s one fine-looking group of mustached ladies!

My sister Holly and her group of close friends have never looked better! Congrats, Chelsea!

So, there you have it! While I don’t pretend to have had a major role in this shower, it sure was a lot of fun to do my small part. And it just goes to show you that party planning can be super fun, especially when you incorporate trendy themes and products.

Who here would like to win a copy of our super fun Party Ensembles book? (Did I mention there’s over 1,000 projects with a bonus CD of supplies, patterns, and downloads?) Leave a comment telling me what trend you’d like to incorporate into your next party and I’ll pick one lucky winner. All comments must be received by Monday, April 2nd at 5 pm MST.

Respecting the stache,
