The Colors of Now!

Holly blog shot The Colors of Now!

I don’t know about you, but I’m a pretty big fan of Pinterest. Not only can I collect in one spot all the things that I am thinking about buying, things that inspire me, DIY ideas for crafts, recipes I would like to try, and fun quotes or pictures, but it also gives me a pretty good look into trends. (If you want to follow Paper Crafts‘s Pinterest, click here.)

So what I want to share with you today are some popular colors I have been seeing not only on Pinterest but all over the place! So here we go!

Colors:

General colors:

7085704841 4a186f5475 q The Colors of Now!Neons. These bright, vibrant color have a synthetic and retro feel. They’re very fun, upbeat, and 80′s chic. These colors go well with retro motifs like boom boxes.

6948201122 5ed1fb89dd q The Colors of Now!Pastels. These are just as fun as neons to me, but softer and gentler. Much more calm and feminine. These pair well with soft icons like flowers.

Specific colors:

Soft colors:

7085713833 79fcb9da43 q The Colors of Now!Mint. Mint is the most popular color I am seeing right now. Buy yourself a pair of mint skinny jeans, and you’ll be right on trend! Pair it with a soft pink top and bam! You’re the new fashionista in town!

7085704827 90d385c4a8 q The Colors of Now!Grey. Grey is a very popular neutral right now, especially the lighter, whiter grey. It fits in well with pastels, and I’d say it’s currently most popular as a wedding color. I’m also seeing it included in animal prints.

7085704859 dc7017518b q The Colors of Now!Pastel pink/peach. This may be a pretty seasonal springy color, but for now, it’s pretty popular. Like I said before, pair it with mint, and you’re right on! It’s very feminine and works quite well with floral prints as well.

Bright colors:

7085704865 a305d964bd q The Colors of Now!Royal blue. What a fun color this is! And guess what? It’s on the cover of our Color Inspiration special issue! It’s a cool, punchy color that I’ve seen a lot when it comes to clothing too. Royal blue looks really nice in an analogous color scheme (colors by each other on the color wheel), so it looks particularly nice with a softer blue, like a light teal color.

6947933848 34da907f9c q The Colors of Now!Bright orange. Susan R. Opel will like this one! Bright orange is a fun, exuberant color that is very striking, and has a very modern feel when paired with black or woodgrain. It also is a fun mix with the neon greenish yellow below or royal blue above!

6947936010 0b2a06149a q The Colors of Now!Neon greenish yellow. This is probably the punchiest of them yet! Hello, yellow! It’s so bright, spunky, and fun. If you wore it, you wouldn’t be able to resist feeling light-hearted and if you got a card in this color, I’m sure instant cheer would fill your heart.

Have you been seeing these colors too? Now tell me, which colors do you like the best? Which ones do you use or see yourself using soon? Comment below answering at least one of these questions, and I will pick one random commenter to win a 6×6 pad of Dear Lizzy’s Neapolitan collection and some ribbon to go along with it. (Great examples of the soft colors I mentioned above!)

I didn’t know what type of colour I am until I looked back on my blog … and have realised I definitely use more bright and bold colours than I used to. (Oh and I’ve just bought a new t-shirt that exact shade of orange!!)

  3. Corrine Ann says:

I love the pastels. But, the neons look like fun too. Then there is bright and bold and I like them too sometimes. Guess I just like all the colors. Thanks for the chance to win the pretty pastel paper.

  4. Vicky says:

I’m really leaning toward the soft colors; mint, grey, pastel pink/peach and then jazz it up a bit with some hot pink and black :D

  5. Peggy B says:

Now I like all colors – but the blues are my favorite! Thanks for your inspiration…

I usually use pastels, but I’ve just bought some bright orange paint & I think I’ll be using that this weekend in my art journaling.

  7. Eva says:

The neons are more dificult to comine for me and Within the pastels, my favourite combination is pink and grey. I think it’s beautiful and elegant. Love it!

  8. Debra Watson says:

Pastels….Pink specifically, since I am working on my daughter’s baby album right now…..really love mixing in some grey too!

  9. Renee says:

I use royal blue on layouts about my son, and now that my daughter is in her teens, I also use neon colors on her layouts from time to time. But I must admit that I still use black and brown card stock the most.

  10. Jennifer says:

I love the soft colors best, neons are too bright for me….probably means I need to get out of my comfort zone and start using them!

  11. Janet Sisk says:

Oh gosh! I can’t pick a favorite. I love anything colorful whether it’s bright or pastel. It all depends on my mood and the kind of card I am making at the time. Pastels are great for baby cards or sympathy cards, but brights are good for birthdays and get well cards. Thanks for a chance to win a great Dear Lizzy 6X6 pad with ribbon! :D

  12. Mary Lou H says:

If it’s blue it’s my color of choice. I love the Royal Blue. I’d use it for my greeting cards. I do love the pastel colors too but they seem so soft depending on what you are making.

  13. Heaney says:

I tend to favour anything pink, so pastel pink is very much what I have using on my project.

  14. agnes says:

So funny because I like bright colors in my projects but I am too old to go neon, lol. I have to go with pastels this time….wink-wink.

  15. Robin Tinley says:

I’m a soft colors person myself but my 3 girls like the bright ones so I’m using those for them. Also, I have several friends going through rough times right now, so I’m using the bright neons as cheerer-uppers. I just finished a card in neon yellow, neon pink, neon lime green, with neon purple accents. It may sound atrocious but it looks good!

  16. Charlene M. says:

My favs are the pastels, but I do love that MINT too! I’ll have to give those neon colors a try. They look like they’d be pretty fun to dress up!

  17. Roxie Griffith says:

I love the brights and neon colors. I like to use them all the time.

  18. Helen F. says:

Ohhh, love the Mint, Grey and Pink/Peach colors!
I tend to lean toward pastels, but the brights and neons would be fun for “kid’s cards” :)

  19. Beatrice Lawson says:

I use lots of pastels but will occasionally work with bright primaries, really depends on the season and setting of the pics.

  20. Marion says:

I am in love with the bright orange!!! I can see summer cards with it already.

  21. I’m definitely NOT a fan of the neons! Those colors should stay in the 80′s ;) I haven’t seen the mint/soft pink but definitely the gray! I will definitely be using the mint, that’s one of my faves! And one of the reasons I love the Neopolitan collection so much!

  22. Diane K says:

My favorites for everyday are the neons. I like the colors to pop! I only use pastels for background or “quiet” layouts.

  23. Glenda J says:

I am definitely a bright colour girl! Have such a hard time with pastels! Love this prize – thanks for the chance to win!

  24. Brenda Lubrant says:

I defintely love the orange. It is so popular in women’s clothing, shoes and purses. I love using it to add a touch of pop on my altered art pages.

  25. Barbara M says:

Grey is the color I am thinking about and it is for a wedding!

  26. I’m so in love with grey right now! It’s taking over my wardrobe! :)

    Love the pastels!
    DeniseB

  28. Meagan says:

My favorite colors right now are definitely the soft mint , floresent pink , and bright coral. Maybe not together but every time I see these colors I smile.

  29. Heather says:

I love those bright colors – blue, orange, yellow/green! My daughter would love those pinks!

  30. Sarah says:

I love that all of the neon colors are in style now, definitely my favorite to use! I tend to use bright colors in most of my cards just because I feel that the brighter colors send happy feelings and will possibly ‘brighten’ someones day. I will probably be leaning more toward the pastels for mother’s day because they are softer and give more of a loving feeling.

  31. Char-D says:

Which colors do you like the best?
The pastel pink/peach is my favorite, and the Royal blue would be great for my son.

  32. Jamia says:

Orange is my favorite color so of course I pick ORANGE!!!

  33. LorraineN says:

Ooh I love the bright colors as well as the soft colors! Can definitely see using these soon!

I am very much into gray right now!!!

  35. Cheryl says:

Love the orange! And the royal blue. Thanks for this look at color trends and for a chance to win.

  36. AngieB says:

I can see myself using the pastels the most! I do see the neon greenish yellow EVERYWHERE. It’s my daughter’s favorite color!!!!

  37. Susan S. says:

Pastels are pretty and have their place. I use them for soft, feminine cards. My favorite colors are bold, bright jewel tones. They catch your eye and make me feel happy.

  38. Jen R says:

I’m big into neons! I love how funky they look when paired with more traditional black, tan, kraft, white, and navy. Just fabulous!

  39. I am LOVING the Neon colors and grey!! THANKS for sharing and for the chance to win!! Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)

  40. B. Poteraj says:

I like mint the best. It is a happy color. But I only like it in small doses…

  41. Sharon Gullikson says:

I have a Vespa scooter that is a mint green. I fell in love with it about 8 years ago, and still love it to this day. It just puts me in a good mood to see it. It has the same effect on others. You have no idea how many thumbs up I get from rough bikers, older ladies, teenagers, men, young ladies, everyone! Mint green is my favorite of all of the colors you mentioned, for sure. I’m glad that others like it so much because I like to see it being used.

  42. Diana Padilla says:

Definately the grey color. I particularly love it paired in shades of grey with the Purple or eggplant family of colors. Thanks for the opportunity!

  43. Judy1223 says:

I definitely prefer the pastels over the neons, preferably the pink or mint. Yum!

  44. Jean says:

I have an equal fondness for both bright colors and pastels. I have found, however, with cardmaking that there are many colors which I don’t necessarily care for on their own that are great to work with when paired with other colors. It’s really been a fun way to stretch my own limits of creativity.

  45. Angie says:

I love that Royal Blue!!! And yes, I am seeing the blue in lots of clothes this season!

  46. Right now I’m into the soft/pastel colors, but I love them all! The bright and the neon are really great for that” in your face punch” when I really want to get your attention! I love the 6×6 pads, and Dear Lizzy is one of my favorites! Thanks for the chance to win!

  47. Patricia says:

I am a big fan of the pastels. I especially love the mint and the pink combination you mentioned. And my daughter just bought a pair of super skinny jeans in that mint color! Thanks for the chance to win!!

  48. Linda E says:

This may sound boring but I am loving all the shades of grey that I am seeing. What a great neutral!

  49. dawn says:

I love, love, love these colors, perfect for my girl pages
