I confess. I distress.

And I’ve got a tool today that is made for the paper crafter who likes the look of worn paper and embellishments.

Meet the Distressing Tool from Prima Marketing’s Comfort Craft tool collection.

This tool, which costs around $15, is an all-purpose, compact distressing tool of sorts for paper crafters. If I do say so myself, it is pretty neat!

The tool is made of a heavy, sturdy plastic. It has a blade, a self-contained metal brush, and a metal file to sand, nick, and distress edges and surfaces.

Here is a peek of what the tool looks like in action.

You can drag paper over the blade.

You can wear down paper fibers and embellishments with the metal brush.

You can scruff up the surface of papers with the interchangeable heads and file.

You can also distress the edges of papers with the heads and files.

And that is just a taste of what you can do with this cool tool!

I used the tool on these three projects.

I distressed the buttons on this card by rubbing the tool’s file and interchangeable heads over them.

I scruffed up the edges of the hearts and other diecuts here by brushing them over the tool’s blade.

I wore down the patterned papers, star sticker, chipboard letters, and brads here by brushing them over and over with the tool’s metal brush.

Right now I am really interested in learning more about image transferring. I know that isn’t really a tool, more of a technique — but there are so many different ways to do. I’ve watched too many YouTube videos to learn and now am a bit frazzled on where to start. My next project of image transferring will be one of trial and error. Always fun to learn!

  8. This gadget looks pretty nifty and easy to use. I like that!
I would like to learn more about how to get more use from the basic tools like my heat gun, cutters, punches, all those things we have that seem to be uni-purpose but we might be able to use in a different way. I know a sliding cutter can also work as a scoring tool but what else can it do? (Please tell me it can do laundry and load the dishwasher!!!) :)

Wow! What a cool tool, Teri, and of course a great review of what it can do. I like to learn about all sorts of new tools, but I guess I want to learn more about the ribbon cutter. Your blog has some great info – and it excites me to try to learn more about it! I love ribbon but hate the fraying, and hate that my notches don’t always line up.
