Windy Robinson

Hi all,

Windy here! I hope that you all are having a great start to your Wednesday and a great start to your summer. Oh yes, today is the day! The first official day of summer!

Are you ready for all of the fun things that summer holds? Like outdoor picnics and trips to the pool?

I remember one of my favorite things to do as a kid in the summer was to collect and press flowers and leaves. Oh and the summer that my mom bought me a box of solar print paper. Wowie! I was in heaven!

Do you remember making solar prints (or cyanotypes) when you were a kid?

The “Playing with Paint” section of the July/August 2012 issue inspired me to create a card of my own that is reminiscent of a solar print. But this card also puts some of the fun spray mists that I have in my crafty stash to good use.

7396649668 6e8483fcc3 Groovin with the Go to Gals: CyanotypesIt’s pretty simple to create your own. Find foliage from your yard. Lay it on a piece of cardstock.

Just leave a comment here telling me what your favorite summer crafting activity is. All comments must be received by Friday, June 22nd at 5pm MDT.

Here’s to a great summer!

Oooh, what a fabulous prize – thanks for the chance! I love to sit outside when (if!) it’s cool enough in the evening and sketch the birds in my backyard. There’s always a few stragglers that hit the feeders late in the evening.

  16. Maureen Chandler says:

WOW – I just love these cards and the technique! Thanks so very much! I love being outside sitting on our deck. We have nesting wrens in our birdhouse and can watch the parents coming and going to feed their little ones!

This looks so fun! My favorite summer crafting activity for this summer will be helping my daughter put together her very first scrapbook. She got a scrapbook kit for her 6th birthday and her cousin suggested she scrapbook her summer! It should be fun!

  19. ellen s says:

I know this may sound silly but we tie dye every summer. We buy two big kits and socks and t’s and tanks and have a big tie dye party. It is so much fun and the kids love it. Our boys play soccer and this year we are doing soccer socks in our school colors. It’s great because you can just do it outside in the grass…less mess!

  20. Cynthia Rose says:

I have two summer projects – 1) Documenting our garden and chickens and 2) I like to make Christmas cards in the summer (maybe it helps me feel cooler!)

  21. Ann Cox says:

I have been trying to learn more techniques for sprays. I just need to try them out more often–it’s a little intimidating.

I’m looking forward to getting the cast off my right arm/hand so I can start crafting again!!!!!

Would love to try your technique but I’m unfamiliar with the spray mist. My favorite summer craft is collecting sea shells and decorating picture frames and mirrors with them. Life’s a beach!
