Hi all,
Windy here! I hope that you all are having a great start to your Wednesday and a great start to your summer. Oh yes, today is the day! The first official day of summer!
Are you ready for all of the fun things that summer holds? Like outdoor picnics and trips to the pool?
I remember one of my favorite things to do as a kid in the summer was to collect and press flowers and leaves. Oh and the summer that my mom bought me a box of solar print paper. Wowie! I was in heaven!
Do you remember making solar prints (or cyanotypes) when you were a kid?

The “Playing with Paint” section of the July/August 2012 issue inspired me to create a card of my own that is reminiscent of a solar print. But this card also puts some of the fun spray mists that I have in my crafty stash to good use.
It’s pretty simple to create your own. Find foliage from your yard. Lay it on a piece of cardstock.
Spray with spray mist.
Then you allow your image to dry. Stamp a sentiment and mount on a card base.
So who wants to win a collection of Tattered Angels spray mists and paints, a set of card bases by Canvas Corp, and a copy of the July/August 2012 issue so you can start playing with paint? Just leave a comment here telling me what your favorite summer crafting activity is. All comments must be received by Friday, June 22nd at 5pm MDT.
Here’s to a great summer!

Getting together with my scrappin pals for girls weekends at the cottage
Oh my goodness Windy, I LOVE this card! And so simple to do too…. except that I don’t yet own any spray mists! Thanks for the chance to win some! I would definitely go crazy making these kind of cards
Please! I want to try spray mist with nature. And since I subscribe to your wonderful magazine, I would pass on the copy to a fellow crafter!
wow! gorgeous. thanks for sharing and will definitely try this one.
thanks for the chance to win
Wow! What an amazing technique! I would love to win!
What a fun way to showcase nature – thanks for sharing! My favorite summer crafting is working with the kids at our Vacation Bible School.
I like doing messy crafts (like paper making and tie-dye) in the summertime so I can be outside and not a have a disaster in the house!
What a wonderful idea!!! And I love to do all the usual scrapbooking and cardmaking…just with the windows and doors open to enjoy the fresh air and the breeze!
I think I just found my favorite summer craft!! Love the colors. Thanks for the idea and opportunity.
I do all my normal paper crafting in the summer plus we add in tie-dye & playing with sidewalk chalk/paint. It’s fun to do the messy outside crafts in the summer with the kiddo. Thanks for a chance to win!
My favorite summer crafting is card making!
Catching up on scrapbooking
What a fun idea!! I am into making canvases. Could so use some mists – I only have one. Thank you for the chance to win!
Hadn’t thought about using the spray mists to make this project. Been a long time since I’ve even made a picture with leaves. I don’t do any special for the summer. I enjoy making cards all year long.
Oh wow, this is so pretty and I love the effect of your leaves! I don’t do anything particularly different in summer (other than think of starting my Christmas cards LOL!)
Oh my gosh I love how easy and yet beautiful this project is!!! What a fun idea! I kind of do something similar with my kids by putting leaves under their paper and have them rub crayons over top of them, it’s fun to watch them appear! Thanks for the chance to win!
Thanks for sharing this fun and fabulous card, Windy! I am definitely going to give this technique a try…never did it before!
My very favorite Summer crafting activity is making cards ~ okay, Spring, Winter and Fall too
Wow you really brought me back a ways to childhood memories. It was so much fun working with that paper and having the patience to wait for the magic to happen. Great card thanks for sharing it and giving me a chance to win. Have a great week!
Beautiful card! My fave craft during the summer is anything involving my 5 yr old and I working together in a nice air conditioned room, with no arguing!
She can be a tad demanding at times
My poor shrubs are going to take a beating now that I have seen this technique… Must try this one at home.
ooooh! i love using household items as masks, but the leaves are beautiful! i think i’d like to double up on the mists, too, and maybe flip the leaves over to then “stamp” with a different color! gorje, Windy!
fave summer crafting activity has to be coloring – i love to sit by the window at my fave air-conditioned bookstores and coffeehouses and just watch the days roll by (when i have time to let ‘em roll!). i do like to take advantage of the long days and hours of natural light so i can paint or color while it’s still light out!
I love the spray mists with leaves. A definite must do for this summer! My favorite summer crafting is scrapbooking (actually its a year round obsession), but on a hot summer day it is so nice to stay in and accomplish something fun. It’s even better if I do it with my children or my friends.
What a great idea! I want try all kinds of leaves and flowers with the mist. Thanks for a chance to win.
What a great idea! I remember doing that as a kid. One thing I’m working on this summer, is knitting a baby blanket for one of my DD’s friends–she’s expecting twin boys! We are both knitting a baby blanket, since it’s too hot to be outside. Not exactly summery–but we do “crafts” in the summer in AZ, because when the rest of the country is getting snow, we are outside enjoying sunshine.
Hi windy…Loved how you made that card with the spray mists and leaves form your yard…I really really want some of those mists…my favorite summer crafty thing is to start on Christmas cards in July…lo ve trying out the ideas I have saved all year long and seeing which one will be THE one for the holidays!!!
Using real plants as a mask seems like a cool idea!
Well, the last issue inspired me to stretch my budget and get a few watercolors to try some techniques…. and NOW I have to get some mist sprays to try this one!!! (unless I win….) Wow, that is awesome! love it!! And my faves are the same summer or winter – making cards!!! – except I LOVE using the bright colors in summer as opposed to the more muted ones of autumn and winter and the pastels that go with spring.
Windy, what a pretty name, and a pretty card that’s so easy! For summer, I love stamping, punching, coloring and cutting out butterflies for cards!
Beautiful card! I love this idea… great idea for the mists!

I love making cards with my cousin in the summer and also bright happy summery cards!
So fun! Thanks for the chance to win …
These “cyanotype cards” are fabulous! I would love to win this package as I don’t have any sprays!
My favourite crafting activities in the summer are usually card making and jewellery making. I love to make crafts with my young nieces too — playdoh, colouring, papercrafting, bracelets, etc.
If I’m working with children, I would do some type of nature craft. For myself, I love to create flowers for my cards that resemble the real blossoms in my garden.
I love to do kids crafts outside with my two charming nephews.
I love to craft with my nieces when they come for a visit in the summer. It’s nice to share my hobby with another generation.
I love taking my drawing stuff to the Botanical Garden and sitting in a quiet, shady spot while I create.

All paper crafts are for summer–but I’m getting into a little mixed media crafts this summer particularly–thanks for the chance to win some awesome mists and the magazine!
Wow the mist look like fun. I enjoy making card with my stamping ladies on Tues.
I love making cards. This is a beautiful idea and I would love to try it!:)
I had a blast last week! I was the ‘craft lady’ at Vacation Bible School. It would be awesome to win this prize package as I love mists!
My favorite summer crafting activity is making cards (my favorite crafting activity all seasons!)
My favorite summer crafting activity is anything because I’m so new at it, I love everything I’ve tried! BTW I love how you misted the leaves on the card, it’s sooooo beautiful! Now I have to try that! Thank you!
My favorite summer crafting activity is making cards. Thanks for the chance to win!
My three kids and I love to do re-purposing crafts. We also enjoy planting things and watching them grow. I decided to come up with something for them to do that incorporated both things. We took milk jugs and cut them down right beneath the handle, spread glue all over the outside of the bottom half of the jug and placed construction paper on them. Then the kids decorated their projects. Afterwards we put soil in them and planted some flower seeds and have been watching our creations grow. It was so much fun to see the looks on their faces when their seeds sprouted. They really had fun with it!
I love pressing flowers to use in crafts later. Last year I also tried “pounding” flowers, to get the color out onto paper … it was fun.
I love to scrap and make cards. I do that all year round.
Thank you so much for sharing today’s technique with us. I remember doing this technique years ago. I would love to win some tattered angel mists to try this on a card or canvas.
Love your cards and loved the technique! My favorite summer time craft is baking and craft making with my nephews!
during the summer, i still like to paper craft and quilt.
Super card. TFS I like to make cards outside to soak up the sun. God Bless.
