Last Saturday my husband, myself, and a couple of friends went to the Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games.
My best friend introduced me to the festival the first year I moved to Utah, and now we try to make it every year. It’s something I look forward to all year, and not something I ever heard about when living in California.
First stop is always some authentic Scottish food; this is Bangers and Mash.

This is prettier than what I ate, but just as delicious, I’m sure.
Browsing the shops and watching the traditional games followed.

This is a photo of the caber toss! The caber is essentially a long log, which the athletes have to lift and then flip over as straight as possible. It can be 16’ to 20’ long, and weigh between 85 and 120 pounds.
Unfortunately, the athletes on Saturday had a much harder time than the gentleman in the picture because the wind this year was really bad. Imagine having to lift that heavy log, and then being blown over! Scary!
Did you do anything fun last weekend? Any exciting plans for Father’s Day?
Oh, and happy Flag Day!
Which reminds me . . . how would you like to win a fun prize? I’m offering up some fun sentiment flags from Jillibean Soup as well as some kraft flag pins from Maya Road and some cards and envelopes from DCWV!
Comment below for a chance to win! All comments must be received by Monday, June 18th at 5 pm MDT.

Cute prizes – no plans for Father’s Day and while it is flag day in the States it was a busy day for me as it was my daughter’s birthday and the other daughter was being given a school award.

Our Friends for Learning group in Idaho Falls chose Scotland as our foreign country class this semester and (as always) wound it up with a Cultural Cuisine Dinner. Tasty food and great decorations…we even had a bag-piper!
