You may have heard about the solar eclipse that happened recently (on May 20th), the mere mention of which caused one of us editors to break into “Total Eclipse of the Heart” each time. Can you guess who?
Maybe you even got some special glasses and looked at it yourself. Well, if you missed it, you’ve still got a chance to catch the transit of Venus. Happening tomorrow (or the next day, depending on where you are).
So for those of us in North America, keep it in mind for tomorrow in the early evening! And if you’ve still got your special spectacles, you better whip them out. We did! And we’ll be watching tomorrow.

We got these sun-safe shades from our friends at Sky and Telescope magazine!
Now if you’re not interested in such things, you may want to think twice about the transit of Venus because guess what? This will never happen again in our lifetimes since the next one will occur in 2117! This is your last chance of seeing Venus directly between us and the sun!
For safe viewing tips, click here and for more information about the transit of Venus, click here. And to check out your own local circumstances (um…pretty cool), click here!
And if you’re all about this, you might want to check out our sibling publication Sky and Telescope magazine!
Thanks for checking in, and check back with us at noon, because we’ll be giving you details on how to vote for Gallery Idol, round 2!

My kids LOVED the eclipse and I thought it was pretty cool as well. Just wanted to let you know that your link to your viewing tips actually just takes us to that picture of you cute gals gazing at the sky. : )
Thanks, Tiffany! It should be the right link now.
Holly, thanks for the info and links. Looks like I’ll have to be up at sunrise on Wednesday to see it! Now I’m going to be humming Total Eclipse of the Heart all evening. Crystal Swing’s version of it is something else!
This is a very cool post! :> I wouldn’t have known about this so thank you! I will be watching and now you’ve got me singing a total eclipse of the heart!
I’m all ready to watch the transit of Venus later today! We found the arcwelder glass replacements. I got two, a # 5 and a #10 (I’m a little extra protected) that I am going to rubberband together. They cost us just over $10. We tried it yesterday and could see the sun. It looked like a neon yellow-green circle. So excited about this afternoon!
