Groovin’ with the Go-to Gals: The Watercolor Effect

Color Headshot Jennifer McG 204x300 Groovin with the Go to Gals: The Watercolor Effect

Jennifer McGuire

It’s back to school time! Soon our kids will be bringing home paintings and drawings they created in school. And I don’t know about you, but I wish I could go back to that time where someone said to me, “Sit and create for the next hour!”

So I decided to give myself just that—a small bit of time to play with paints and create some simple cards. And what fun I had! In no time at all, I had a set of cards with watercolor backgrounds.

7874288040 719271fea1 Groovin with the Go to Gals: The Watercolor EffectI first cut several pieces of watercolor paper. I then added scribbles with my watercolor pencils over the whole piece, varying the color along the way. (This took no time at all—just quick and easy!) I brushed water over it to create a blended, ombre piece.

7874287952 c97feec4f1 Groovin with the Go to Gals: The Watercolor EffectAfter trimming the pieces down, I die-cut the Simon Says Stamp Fresh Daisies and added it to a piece of white cardstock. I feared a dark greeting would be too distracting, so I just white heat embossed a message from the Hero Arts Year Round Sentiments stamp set.

And there you have it: a note card set created with some simple watercolor play! I hope this inspires you to give yourself some creative time before the kids get off the bus!

Oh, and would you like a chance to win a package of exclusive Simon Says Stamp dies (like the flower one I used here) and stamps valued at $100?
