Hello! It’s Jennifer McGuire here.
One of the best ways to make an attention-grabbing card is to use something unexpected. My current favorite? Metal! However, I don’t like my cards to end up super bulky, as I like to put them in the mail. So I decided to play around with a few thin metal and faux metal products. I loved what I found! And I am here to share them with you today.
These are the cards I created, and each has a different “metal” vase for the flowers.
First up is the Inkssentials™ Surfaces Metal Foil Tape Sheets from Ranger. This product is so much fun to use! It reminds me of heavy, shiny aluminum foil, but with an adhesive back. It is super easy to work with and die cut. Check it out!
Next is the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Mirrored Sheets. This product also has an adhesive back but is a bit thicker and a perfect mirror. I really love how it catches the light and your own reflection! Here it is.
Finally I created my own faux metal paper using Ranger’s Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. This was so much fun! I just started with dark grey cardstock and dabbed on the stain. It dries quickly leaving a matte shine. I love it…
Here is a closer look at the three metal vases…
By the way, I cut these vases using the Memory Box Candy Jar and Apothecary Jar Dies and my Big Shot machine. I added flowers from the Simon Says Stamp Always and Forever stamp set colored with Copic Markers, along with greetings from the same set. Finally, the Impression Obsession Random Lines background was stamped on each card with Hero Arts Mid-Tone Shadow Inks.
And I have two bits of good news!
First, I have a video showing how I created these cards over on my blog. Just head on over to watch!
Second is a giveaway! Just leave a comment here by Friday, October 12th at 5 pm MDT for your chance to win one of each of the three “metal” products here—the Metal Foil Tape Sheets, the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Mirrored Sheets, and the Brushed Pewter Distress Stain.
Enjoy!

Those vases are great! I usually use the foil tops from my yogurt or foil paper whenever I need a bit of metal, but these products seem even better.
