There’s just something about the word challenge that really gets my blood pumping. I come from pretty serious competitive stock (though it’s usually Scrabble and music trivia that really get me psyched).
What about you? Do you like a good challenge? Maybe on New Year’s Day you challenged yourself to eat less, spend less, compliment more. Why not make a vow to try all of the challenges in 75 Creative Card Challenges? Go on. I DARE YOU! And think of how much fun you’ll have!
This issue has been years in the making (watch for tomorrow’s post from P. Kelly Smith for more on that), but in June of 2012 we started getting down to business. We shared the challenges with a bunch of designers, and then it was time for the creating to begin!
Like I said – I love a good challenge, so I decided to play along. I printed up the challenges and began making check marks next to the ones I completed. I even let random.org help me choose my next challenge sometimes. I’m not gonna lie, though. If it picked a challenge that was too messy, I did a best 2 out of 3!

One time it chose #27 for me. And I thought, yep, I can handle that one—Use an Item from the Garage. I have a lot of goodies in the garage—all meticulously organized, of course!

Washer Hello Card by Susan R. Opel
Down to the garage I went in search of the perfect thing to use. No, not spray paint. Too messy. Hmmm, not a screw or sandpaper or a nut. Oooooh, pretty, shiny washers! Yes! And to top it off, I decided to make a decidedly GIRLY card for this challenge that would likely lean toward masculine. What better way to girly it up than to add pink and rhinestones and pearls and glitter, right? See, a challenge WITHIN a challenge.

Mentor Example Card by Angeline Yong Jeet Leen
Angeline took on this challenge, too, but you can see that her manly card went in a completely different direction than mine did. I love how she added the truck bed pattern and the nut on her card. In the issue you’ll find two more cute ideas for challenge #27 from Glenda J. Wyatt and Jen del Muro.
And now, for the week ahead, get ready for something fun! Our editorial team is jumping on the challenge wagon, and the five of them (Jennifer, Kerri, Stacy, P. Kelly, and Holly) will each tackle one of five challenges throughout the week that just HAPPEN to coincide with the challenges that Cath will be hosting at the Moxie Fab World each day this week. Yes, YOU get to play, too! Watch for their posts at 10 am MST every day this week (starting today with Jennifer Schaerer), and then click on over to the Moxie Fab World to see how you can join the fun.
Are you ready to play? Leave me a comment telling me what you have in your garage that you could use on a card. Three lucky commenters will win a copy of this issue for themselves! Just leave your comment by Wednesday, January 9th at 5 pm MST!
You gotta love a challenge!
