Welcome to Stamp It! 3 Ways Week! I’m here kicking off the 3-day promotion of our latest special issue, Stamp It! 3 Ways, Vol. 2. If you love stamping, you’re going to love the concept of this issue.
We asked THREE different designers to create THREE different cards that all use the SAME stamp set. Among the 114 cards in the magazine, our designers worked with 38 different stamp sets, which are also featured right next to the cards they inspired. Versatility is most definitely the name of the game.
A great example of this versatility can be found in the set of cards that use the Birthday Pennants stamp set from Flourishes (pages 24-25):

I asked designers Agnieszka Malyszek, Windy Robinson, and Sarah J. Moerman to share their creative process and how they went about designing three distinct cards from one stamp set:
Agnieszka Malyszek: “I love the concept of working as a team, and it was really inspiring to see the different ideas and then approaches the designers took with the same stamp set. My creative process is always pretty random. I love to work with a versatile set of stamps and have the opportunity to use one stamp in a unique way. When I was creating my Triangle Cheers Card, I was totally into the triangle trend, and I knew I would like to use one of the birthday pennants to create my background pattern. ”

Agnieszka Malyszek’s Triangle Cheers Card, p. 24
Windy Robinson: “As we all threw out ideas over e-mail, it became clear that it was going to be pretty easy to create three very different cards because everyone’s approach was so different. I took my typical approach when I’m looking to use my stamps in a unique way, which is to take any images from the stamp set and try to create a unique background by repeating or intermixing them. After seeing the stamp set, I immediately envisioned a patterned background created with soft colors. From there, a shabby romantic birthday card was born.”

Sarah J. Moerman: “When I first looked at the Birthday Pennants stamp set, my thoughts went immediately to Christmas. I’ve seen a number of Christmas stamps with triangular Christmas trees and the banners reminded me of those. The thin flag made the perfect trunk and the ‘Celebrate’ sentiment fit well with the Christmas theme. Once I had decided on those elements and got working, I felt that I needed something to ground the Christmas tree. I thought one of the wavy lines would make a great little patch of snow. Finally, I stamped one of the leaf stamps repeatedly to add some interest to the card base.”

Thanks for all insight, ladies! And isn’t that the point to owning a bazillion stamp sets? We all need to see the unlimited possibilities that are right at our fingertips. If you’d like to win a copy of Stamp It! 3 Ways, along with the Birthday Pennants stamp set that’s featured above, leave me a comment by Wednesday, January 30th at 5 pm MST.
