Maybe it’s my Danish roots, but I’m really drawn to folk art designs and Scandinavian prints. I love the clean lines and fun icons. These Nordic designs remind me of sitting in my Grandmother’s kitchen watching her make bread.
Here are a few images that have caught my eye as I’ve been out and about on the internet.

It looks like I haven’t been the only one to be inspired by this fun folk art design. Here are a few Paper Craft designers who have recently incorporated Scandinavian aspects into their card designs.

Easter Blessings Card from Paper Crafts March/April 2013 on p. 23
Betsy Veldman does a great job of using a variety of fussy cut stamped images and motifs to create a mirrored design reminiscent of Scandinavian folk art.

Danke card from 75 Creative Card Challenges on p. 78
The challenge for this card was to say “thank you” in a different language. Teri Anderson’s stylized floral focal piece definitely goes along with the Danke sentiment to create a fun Scandinavian-inspired card.

Bold Thanks Card from Stamp It! 3 Ways on p. 59
Julie Masse used simple red and blue colors, a repeatable pattern, and intricately designed stamps to create a card that suggests a Scandinavian folk art influence.

Woodgrain Hello Card from 75 Creative Card Challenges p. 113
Kimberly Crawford simply used a folk art-inspired patterned paper from Basic Grey’s PB&J Collection to create her card.
So what do you think? Whether you use a patterned paper, repeatable stamp, or icon, are you as inspired as I am to play with Scandinavian folk art? If so, we have a cute Scandinavian-inspired stamp set to give away to one lucky winner. Check out this stamp set, Folk Art Florals, from WPlus9 Design Studio.
Just leave a comment on this post by Monday, February 25th at 5 pm MST for a chance to win it!
Happy creating!

These stamps are really adorable. They would look very nice on some upcoming projects I’m planning. Thanks for a chance to win.
I am 1/4 Danish heritage. My grandmother came over to America on a ship “by herself” when she was only 13 years old after her parents had died. I can’t even imagine the struggles she must have endured. Would LOVE to win this amazing set!
Adorable stamps.. Would love to do some work with stamps.
Never gave folk art designs much thought before, but now I’m totally inspired! Thanks for sharing their beauty and warmth!
Love the stamps! I grew up in a Scandanavian home and these remind me of growing up and my family!
