Did you know April is National Humor Month? I think that means it’s the perfect time to add a little humor to your handmade cards. There’s nothing like a laugh to chase away the gloominess of winter (a winter that just won’t seem to go away here in Iowa!).
So what makes for a great humorous card? I think it’s the perfect pairing of a fun image and clever sentiment, which isn’t always easy to do. Sometimes the best humorous cards have a way of saying something truly funny without saying anything at all!
One fun way to add instant humor is to animate an inanimate object. I just love this little set of Friendly Faces stamps from DeNami Designs. They’re the perfect size to add to just about any object in my stamp or diecut collection.
For my first card, I added one of the faces to a diecut speech bubble for a lighthearted thinking of you card.
Since I don’t really consider myself a naturally funny person, I often turn to other sources for humorous inspiration. My second card was inspired by one of my favorite sources of inspiration—my kids’ closets! They make the cutest t-shirts for kids these days, with punny sentiments and fun images. This punny encouragement/friendship card was inspired by a shirt in my 5-year-old daughter’s closet.
I hand-cut the popsicle image from cardstock, added some wooden craft sticks, and stamped those cute faces! The sherbet-y colors and the sentiment banner along the bottom feel like they might be straight from the packaging of your favorite sweet treat.
Would you like to try your hand at bringing some of your favorite stamped images or diecuts to life? Tell me about your funniest creation ever. Did it have a funny image with an equally funny sentiment to tie it all together? I’ll choose one lucky commenter to take home all three sets of adorable face stamps from DeNami Designs—their Friendly Faces, Animal Faces, and Seasonal Faces sets! Just leave your comment by Friday, April 19th at 5 pm MDT.
Laughing all the way,
