Groovin’ with the Go-to Gals: Back to School

Kimberly C Color Groovin with the Go to Gals: Back to School

Kimberly Crawford

It’s back to school time. Time for pencils, notebooks, erasers, and chalkboards.  Okay, so everyone has a white board or smart board these days, but there is something about the nostalgia of a chalkboard that always sets my heart aflutter. I blame it on being a teacher, who was raised by a teacher, who was also raised by a teacher.

Luckily for me, the chalkboard trend is going strong in the paper-crafting industry these days. Imagine my excitement when I saw these awesome new chalk products from Fancy Pants Designs! Chalk tape?! No way!

The chalk tape comes in 3 different widths, ½”, ¾”, and 1”.  I used the ½” width on these projects. There is a backing on the tape which allows you be creative with it. And of course I had to try all sorts of ideas!

In a small country town, the biggest thing about going back to school was the one new dress I got to pick out from Sears catalog AND getting to go to the only store that carried the school supplies. It was on Main Street and meant we had to go to town. LOVED that! So much excitement.

  7. Lisa P says:

Favorite back to school memory was back to school night which always happened the week before school started. The parents all went in to listen to and meet the teachers and the kids all played and got to see each other after a summer away. I went to a small, private school so it was like family.

My favorite back to school memory was getting the new text books, I still get a pang from the smell of fresh paper and ink. What can I say I am a book nerd.

  10. Sandy Meyers says:

When I was little, the start of school would always make me have dreams of running in the schoolyard. As the wind would come up, it would blow my long coat around and eventually I would be flying over the school and my house with all my girlfriends. As I got older I would dream of missing classes, or not remember my locker combination, or forgetting to study for tests. I definitely need some blog candy to calm all this stress!

  11. Cindy Z says:

I always enjoyed the first day of school every year.

  12. My Favorite back to school memory was when I started school!! We lived in the country about 20 miles from school and the bus picked us up first at 7:00 am. I wasn’t afraid, but the parents were allowed to ride the bus to school with their kids for the first day and beings I was the first child my mom rode with me to school!! ;) I’ll never forget how sad she was to see me go, I was all excited, but knew I’d miss my mom and my siblings!!

My favorite childhood school memory was that every year in elementary school my mom would make me a new dress for the 1st day of school. I loved those dresses! I also loved going school supply shopping, something about new crayons and pencils and such and getting a new backpack, it always was so exciting to me. Now as a mom I still love to go shopping for school supplies with my kids and getting to see their excitement!

  16. Kathy Mc says:

Hmmm, that was SO many years ago. I guess I’d say getting new school clothes and seeing my friends again. I’ll always remember teachers writing so neatly on the chalkboard and wondering how they kept it so straight. Without lines, I’m all over the place. Thanks for the chance to win these goodies from Fancy Pants Designs!

My favorite back to school memory was when I was on the drill team (2-1/2 years). We had to be at school by 6:30 a.m. We practiced marching with the band on the streets around the high school. Our school did competitions in parades so we needed to practice marching on asphalt. Early mornings were so much fun. Everyone chatting, the birds cherping, the crisp air, the drumers counting out the beat . . . oh the good old days.
