The time has finally arrived! World Card Making Day (WCMD) 2013 is this Saturday, October 5 and we are going to have fun this week as we prepare to celebrate this crafty day. In case this is your first WCMD, let me give you a little information.
World Card Making Day was established as a way for card makers the world over to connect through this amazing hobby. Each year, the first Saturday of October is designated as World Card Making Day and card makers everywhere make cards. Some create by themselves, others head to a local store, and still others get with friends. The great part about this day is there is no wrong way to celebrate!
Did you know there’s a World Card Making Day card contest? There is and lucky for you, there’s still time to enter. You’ll find all the details here, but whatever you do, make sure you have your card postmarked no later than October 15, 2013.
Now, we get a lot of cards for this contest, and in case you are wondering what we do with the cards after the contest, let me tell you. We donate them to Operation Write Home. This great organization sends cards to the troops so they can then use them to write notes home, send birthday wishes, or just say hi. We are grateful we can share your beautiful creations with such a worthy cause.
This holiday is not only the jump-start to the holiday card-making season, it’s a great way to connect with other card makers. Even if you live in a remote area, you can meet other enthusiasts through Facebook, our blog, and the World Card Making Day web site. And those fellow card makers love having friends to share their ideas and creations with. So make sure you find a way to connect with someone on Saturday, either through a local group or online.
Speaking of sharing, Instagram is a great way to share photos of your creations, your group, where you’re creating, and so much more. Paper Crafts has an Instagram page and we’d love to have you share photos on Saturday. So here’s the deal. We are going to randomly select a photo that uses the hashtag #WorldCardMakingDay. The winner will receive a mystery box of paper-crafting goodness! How easy is that?
Take a photo, post it on Instagram with #WorldCardMakingDay in the text, and you could be a winner.
Now that we have the business out of the way, I have a card to share. I made this card two years ago and it is one of my favorites. I used paper I had in my stash, cute holiday stamps, a bit of ribbon, and made a flower using dictionary paper that I sprayed with sparkly, pink spray ink. It isn’t your typical holiday color combination, but I love it.
P.S. Head on over to the Moxie Fab World for more World Card Making Day celebrations!
