It’s hard to believe that kids are either back in school or heading that way. Where did the summer go? Rather than lament the loss let’s embrace the new and paper craft for it!
A little while ago, Elmer’s sent us a few of their adhesives to play with at what we call “creative recess.” It’s a great break from the everyday work tasks and gives us a chance to try new techniques and products. Here are the adhesives we used from Elmer’s:
I thought it would be fun to create a few things for my nieces to use for school. My first thought was composition books. I love these versatile and inexpensive books. They come in small and regular size. For this project the small books were speaking to me. I grabbed paper, stickers, die cuts, brads, and ribbon and started creating. The Elmer’s Quick Dry Dual Tip Glue Pen was great for adhering the paper to the composition book cover as well as the little die cut; the thin tip allowed me to get to the tiny parts of the die cut’s design. I used a Glue Spot for the brad (which I cut the legs off of so that I could adhere it) and the Fabric & Leather Adhesive for the ribbon.
I think they turned out pretty cute, and I think the nieces will enjoy them. My other project was a brain child from another editor—my friend, Joannie McBride. It’s a small magnetized bulletin board for another niece to hang up in her locker. It’s made from foam core board so she can stick notes and photos to it with thumbtacks. Plus I included an envelope to stash notes and things. The Glue Spots are dimensional so they popped the frames off the bulletin board to add a little depth.
I had a blast being creative and playing with Elmer’s adhesives while creating these fun back to school projects. If you’re looking for other back to school ideas, take a look at these cute bookmarks Emily Branch created in the Sept/Oct 2012 Paper Crafts issue.
Well, that’s it for today. What projects are you working on? Anything for back to school? I’d love to hear or see what you’re making. Plus, if you leave me a comment by 5:00 pm Wednesday, September 11th I’ll randomly choose one lucky person to win this prize package with Elmer’s adhesive, composition books, and magnetic sheets so you can make back-to-school projects.
Have fun creating!
