Die cut Vellum Ruby Rock It Panel 400px Guest Blog Post: Ruby Rock It courtesy of CK Events

Hi everyone, it’s Monique Liedtke from Ruby Rock-It’s design team today sharing a tutorial with you using Ruby Rock-It’s “Year in Review” collection and some of their awesome vellum.

As I love using vellum on my scrapbook pages (to create titles and overlays, to mat my photos and for backgrounds) I decided to share with you how to create a fun vellum background and vellum flourish for your layout using an electronic die-cutting system like the Silhouette and your sewing machine.

This is the page I created:

And here’s how I created it:

I chose a cutting file from the Silhouette store that went well with my photo (a kaleidoscope) and resized it to the right format. I adjusted the Silhouette settings to cut vellum, but because this vellum is so nice and “sturdy” I changed the blade settings for vellum from 1 to 2:

And it cut like a charm!

I decided I also wanted a vellum flourish, but one cut from “plain” vellum:

Once I had the desired cuts I chose an offsetting color to place beneath the vellum and used my sewing machine to adhere the kaleidoscope to the background. Before I started sewing I secured the vellum in place using little pieces of removable tape.

If you don’t own a sewing machine, stitching by hand is a perfect solution too of course! Last but not least I layered my photo onto several pieces of Ruby Rock-It’s “Year in Review” patterned paper and placed this on the kaleidoscope. I added the vellum flourish below my photo and embellished with several Ruby Rock-It’s products like the floral bling strip, the flowers, and the cardstock stickers.
