Hello, friends! How many of you are on Instagram? For those of you unfamiliar with this social media outlet, it’s sort of like Facebook for photos. You still follow people and can “like” and comment until your heart’s content, but the only thing you’re sharing is photos. Simple as that.

There’s lots of fun filters to choose from so you can take a picture on your phone and within seconds change the color, mood, lighting and then post it. Instagram also allows you to share all you pictures to Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Another perk…you can add hashtags (#) to all your photos. Similar to Twitter, if you click on that hashtag, it will show you all the pictures that have been taken by any user who has used that same hashtag.

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, we had all six of our Paper Crafts Go-to Gals in town for our annual Editorial Board meeting. Right before we began our gab/eat/repeat meeting, we set up our very own Paper Crafts account on Instagram! And boy do we have some fun pictures to share from #PaperCraftsEdBoard:

While our Go-to Gals were here, both Heather Campbell and Laura Williams celebrated birthdays. Here are the two birthday girls blowing out their cupcake candles!

And it actually snowed while the gals were here. Yep, it was May!

Our Go-to Gals also got to participate in our November/December submissions evaluation meeting. Here they are gathered around the table as Susan presents the submissions for consideration.

And the gals also got new headshots taken for the magazine and blog. Here’s one of Betsy Veldman sitting on a chair on top of a bed!

One field trip took us to American Crafts. Here’s a whole display wall of gorgeous product!

Fun behind-the-scenes pictures, huh? The thing I love most about Instagram is seeing all the pictures of my friends, family, favorite TV shows, magazines, bands, stores, etc. Like anything new, we’re just getting started, but we would love for you to follow us. If you’re already on Instagram, you can search for us under “Paper Crafts Magazine”. We plan to share lots of photos of our crafty day-to-day life.

In turn, as our followers, we’d love to see your day-to-day pictures with our magazines. Whether you’re traveling abroad, at the beach, in the car, or in your own home, feel free to post pictures with #papercraftsmag. We can’t wait to connect with you even more!

See you on Instagram!

Have you noticed that inspiration is everywhere? You can find beautiful designs on clothing, jewelry, and even in the nature. You can find it in advertisements, blogs, and Pinterest.

But if we’re doing things right, our magazine should be a goldmine of crafty inspiration, and that’s why I showcased Amy Nemeth’s inspired by card in the May/June 2013 issue of Paper Crafts magazine. Check it out!

Love me, love my dogs

Stacy Love me, love my dogs

Stacy Croninger

Hi friends,

How many of you have pets? Do you have a dog, cat, fish, bird, gerbil, or other critter? In case you hadn’t guessed from my photo, I’m a dog lover. Actually, I’m an animal lover, but dogs are my favorite, especially our sweet basset hounds—Mabel, Hazel, and Gracie.

8727177088 43c2a606b6 Love me, love my dogsYou may ask why basset hounds? There’s something about those sad, sweet eyes, their long, soft ears, and those big ole paws. I just can’t resist them! But honestly, coming home is when I truly love my hounds—they are so excited to see me that their whole backend wags, not just their tail. No matter the day I’ve had, they love me and want to be with me. Pure happiness!

But bassets also have a playful side that comes equipped with a nose for trouble. Gracie is our curious one—she is constantly sniffing things and often steals them, carrying them off to a quiet spot to thoroughly enjoy (I mean destroy) the stolen goods. Hazel is our talker. She is very vocal when she thinks a treat is needed, and she is not a quiet barker. Oh, the stories I could tell about these two, but I love them all the same.

Even though I don’t send cards to my dogs or other dogs, I have been known to stamp with their paws and tie ribbon on their collars so they have reaped the benefits of my paper-crafting supplies. But I’m always on the lookout for product using dogs. Whether it is paper, stamps, ribbon, or brads, there are plenty of options and clever ways to incorporate them into card making.

For example, check out this cute card from Unity Stamp Company—love this idea!

So grab your dog stamps, paper, ribbons, and more and get creating! You say you don’t have any dog products? Well maybe you should leave a comment about your dog or memory of a dog so you can be entered to win this dog-gone amazing prize package from Imaginisce! Just make sure to leave your comment by Wednesday, May 15th at 5 pm MDT.

350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for Mom

Kerri 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for Mom

Kerri Miller

Mother’s day is right around the corner, this Sunday in fact. Do you have your gift ready for Mom? Luckily we’ve got a ton of cute and clever card and gift ideas for you to choose from—350 to be exact!

8682109828 3ed3b6d9b8 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for Mom

pin it button 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for MomWhen it comes right down to it, Moms can be pretty hard to shop for. I often feel like my Mom has everything, so I’ve got to get a little more creative with my gift giving. Here are three ideas that jumped out at me.

Making a set of cards is a great gift for Mom and one I’m sure she will appreciate. The Card Set section has several fun ideas to choose from. But the one that made me laugh out loud was the Big Deal Card Set on p. 20 by Jocelyn Olson. I can totally see my mother giving these hip cards to her friends.

8715685116 c4f3cc662b 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for Mom

pin it button 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for MomAs a Mom, I love my personal down time. So I was immediately drawn to the Bath Salts with Tag by Lorena Cantó Lavería found on p. 73 of the Gifts section. I’ve been searching for a good “how to” on homemade bath salts for this reason.

8714564219 fbe67f8cb8 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for Mom

pin it button 350 Cards & Gifts: Perfect Gifts for MomLast but not least, I dare say it’s a mother who appreciates the wrapping of her gift as much as the gift itself. So take some time to make that bag extra special like Vanessa Menhorn did with her Vintage Gift Bag on p. 121. From the striped ribbon and lace to the sequins and zigzag stitch, Vanessa knows how to dress up a bag!

Groovin’ with the Go-to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

Color Headshot Jennifer McG 204x300 Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

Jennifer McGuire

Hello! It’s Jennifer here. I am so very excited about the new 350 Cards & Gifts issue. It has so many inspiring projects!

There were two projects that really grabbed my attention—and both are gifts for children. (I love making gifts for my kids!) The first is the Color Me Card Set on page 55 by Terri Davenport.

8718292216 b2c82256e1 Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

pin it button Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & GiftsMy son would love this! I also loved the Monster Cookie Holder on page 102 by Jocelyn Olson.

8718289344 d7464263e0 Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

pin it button Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & GiftsThis one inspired me to create a little treat to put in my son’s lunch box. Tomorrow is a big testing day for him—I think he will love the surprise!

I created a folding piece that also holds a cookie. It looks complicated but it isn’t one bit! You could make a bunch of these quickly.

8718288502 43a17e43cc Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

pin it button Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & GiftsTo create the holder, I cut a piece of Bazzill cardstock to 10 ¼” x 4” and added score lines at 2”, 2 ¼”, 6 ¼”, and 6 ½”. That is it! Just fold it up and you have a cookie holder! I also added a die cut window with the new Lawn Fawn Puffy Star die to the front panel so you could see the cookie inside. Here is what it looks like unfolded.

8717165869 4b7dd4ae50 Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

I finished it off by stamping a sketchy circle from the new Hero Arts Not Perfect stamp set repeatedly around the star opening. I used my computer to generate the greeting and cut it with the Simon Says Stamp Small Banner die. Finally, I added a stamped pencil from the Paper Smooches Smarty Pants set.

8718285642 ec67c859fd Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

I put a cookie in a little baggie and used a couple glue dots to hold it in the folder. When it was all folded up, I added a “C” sticker to hold it closed on the back.

8717166761 a1f52cb032 Groovin with the Go to Gals: 350 Cards & Gifts

This design can be changed up in many ways. So much fun!

Want to make one for your kids? Here is your chance! Leave a comment here by Friday, May 10th at 5 pm MDT for your chance to win the Lawn Fawn Puffy Star Die set! (Which isn’t released until tomorrow!)
